Title: Midi Programs
Post by: MarVelo on Thu 02/02/2006 00:32:12
I am sorry if this has a sticky somewhere or something. I looked in the Crit's lounge but Didnt find it there.

MY question:

What programs do you people use for midi composing? I am thinking about trying my hand and making my own game music.

i use FLStudio 5 (aka Fruity Loops), there's also ModPlug Tracker which can create both mod (mod/s3m/xm/it) and midi, it's also free.

Noteworthy Composer  (http://www.noteworthysoftware.com) is a very nice alternative, and its also free.
Well, the free download is actually a trial version, but theres no reduction in functionality.
Just as long as your conscience can cope...

I use Finale 2006. I also tried the Sibelius demo before getting it, since those two programs are generally considered equivalent. Sibelius is often quoted as the easier program to use, but I prefer the way Finale works.

Those two are professional programs, though, and not cheap. I wouldn't have bought it if I only was looking for a program to make game music, but I notate quite a bit of music so for me it was worth it.
