Getting Around
At the moment we have 4 cars: Mine, Darth Mandarb's, MillsJROSS's, and the roadtrip rental. Mills has been kind enough to help taxi people arriving at MIA, Darth is taking care of people arriving at FLL, and the roadtrip rental is arriving on its own from the north.
Current arrangements are as follows:
RoadTripper: 5
CJ
AGA
Creed Malay
Lackey
Esseb
GrundMobile: 5
Grundislav
DarkStalkey
Becky
Eric
Jess
DarthCar: 7 (Not all at the same time though)
Darth Mandarb
Nacho
Lorena
Sylpher
Disco
Scummbuddy
DutchMarco
MillsDriver: 5
MillsJROSS
Snarky
Pesty
Miez
Quintaros
Some people are arriving before the 29th, and currently I have no idea what arrangements can be made for that. I don't want to have you guys sleeping in airports for hours, but I can't put up more than 1 person at my house, because my house is tiny.
Also, we're going to have 2 people extra that won't fit in the cars. Either not everyone has to ride all at the same time, or maybe someone wants to rent a car between 2/3 people?
Tommy will be there.
edit: Sorry for being off-topic, I am having a terrible day. :'(
I am coming and have 100% cash moneys (based on 20 person-ish occupancy) whenever you may require it.
I have at least that much money I can spend, but the issue with me is transportation there right now. I'm still at the definite maybe stage.
Jess and I ARE FUCKING THERE*!
eric
*seriously, we are there right now, where is everyone else? it's lonely here, we're hungry, I think Jess is sick, oh god, call my parents!
or
*We are there right now and we are fucking there... on all the beds, the counter tops and the driveways. Most statues have also been used as sex objects.
I'm a super definite. I'll book my tickets ASAP. The place looks amazazing and I look forward to being a jerk to everyone in person again!
I'm still trying to get confirmation as to my paid-time off status. I get something like 4.62 hours per week, but I got set back by Hurricane Ike...I can't say I'm a definite definite yet, but a probably definite or almost definite would be within reason.
Oh and Grundy don't go making assumptions about how I'll be getting there. Just because it would be ridiculously cheaper for me to fly doesn't mean I might not still drive my truck all the way out there (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Humble,+TX&daddr=Miami,+FL&hl=en&geocode=&mra=ls&sll=28.268685,-87.70138&sspn=17.446484,28.300781&ie=UTF8&z=5)! :P
P.S. Domino, do you need a hug?
I am still going to have to be on the wouldn't miss it for the world, but will have to actually confirm when I can confirm I can afford the flights and everything.
I am looking forward to being a jerk to Pete and call her names.
And lets not forget, seeing my old friends Simon and Seamus again. Aye to be sure I miss them.
Actually, I'm slowly moving from unconfirmed to not-so-unconfirmed-anymore.
I've already notified my summer job that I won't work that week (that's a salary of $25/hour with paid accommodation and free meals, so I hope mittens 2009 will be worth it), and I don't think money will be a problem if I start saving up now.
So, it looks as though I'll make it this year :)
I would very much like an upgrade from the "Interested/Unconfirmed" to the "Hell yeah, I'll be there" category. ;D
Hey, Adam and I should be moving towards confirmed :) Now the dates are definite, we'll work on getting tickets!
I never posted in the other thread to express interest but I'm fairly definite. If you need to collect deposits, I'll put my money where my mouth is.
I can certainly put some money forth, whether or not I can ultimately attend. I'm sure Grundislav will make it up to me somehow. My main hang-up, as I mentioned, is my severe and total distrust of two-winged flying deathtraps combined with the fact that a train to Florida from here will take me no less than FOUR DAYS!
Now I've always wanted to ride on a sleeper train, but for eight days (4 there and back)? We'll just have to see...
Why the hell can't Amtrak get their heads out of their asses and make a railway along the coast instead of going up through like six states just to come down again ;\.
Shift me to definites, please. I am going to makle this by either hook or crook.

Though I can imagine you would make a brilliant thief, I strongly suggest you hook, sir :D Statistically, you have a much lower chance of being caught. Plus it feels better.

Honestly, I'm not sure that hook (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Hook) is the best option here...I mean sure the cops can be bothersome, but you piss off Peter Pan and then you're really screwed. ;D
BTW, I'm counting the current definites, and it looks like the pricing for this mansion is going to be...well, as Borat would say, "a very nice (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_j9QeUoPOi4)."
Good to see this. I will now look for the best flights there. Related to that: Darth, iirc it was you who mentioned Bimini, I am soo up for that. if that's post- or pre-Mittens is important for my booking the flight. Since I'm reallly keen on that, I'd like to know a bit about if that's actually likely to happen, and some other convenient details as in dates etc. But just for the heck of it I'm going to book my return flight a week after Mittens, because I intend to travel aross the state a bit anyway.
Oh, and to let you know: I'm really busy trying to get me a girlfriend (starring in a fabulous movie is a great bonus when internetdating, BTW!) and maybe get her to come to Florida as well, so that makes one definite (me) and one extremely maybe (the almost unlikely her) (first I'll finally have to have an actually succesful date with a girl :'( :'( I keep failing at that important bit, and she'd have to have interest in coming to Florida with me (some past candidates have expressed interest). And of course she must not be the kind who breaks stuff (chairs etc, not to mention my heart) or else she'd smile me into please paying that fee, "won't you, darling? You kow how much I love you!".
I think I speak for us all if I say: [yell]Go Grundy! [yell]
Addition: flight reservations made a few days before Mittens (27/6) (a jetlag-recovery break) and a week (31/6)after Mittens (possibly Bimini, or else a (nice but )short tour of the state/immediate vicinity of Fort Lauderdale
Maybe I'll hold Mittens '12 at my house. What better way to end the last year of human existance...
Damn I wish I could go this year.
Or on second thought, I would just end up being that guy that never talked and always answered questions with an, "I don't know." - and got wooped at billiards every time.
Screw it! I'm doomed to a hermit's life forever!
HERE'S THE DEAL!
I am very interested in Mittens, it is fun and I love it!
I am very interested in the James Randi Educational Foundation! http://www.randi.org/site/
I do believe the mansion and the JREF are very close to each other. Jess and I want to go pretty badly. If Nacho is coming I'm sure he'd want to go also. Is anyone else interested?
I said I probably couldn't go but I'm not so certain about that anymore. I'm possibly going to New York for a week and then to New Orleans for a few days but I might be able to time it so I can finish the stay with you guys. But I won't know for a few weeks at least.
Well Eric, I hate to bust your balls on this, but I'm claiming that $1 million...
I've discovered a paranormal occurrence directly relating to the JREF. See, apparently the JREF building is in two locations at the same time (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=James+Randi+Educational+Foundation&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=31.509065,56.601563&ie=UTF8&ll=26.107046,-80.132904&spn=0.139349,0.2211&z=12)...and although it occupies the same physical address, it is apparently 1.8 miles apart from itself (http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=201+SE+12th+St,+Fort+Lauderdale,+FL+33316+(James+Randi+Educational+Foundation)&geocode=CRw038jGO6iJFdVejgEdKyU5-yHg0muh6YW2rQ&dirflg=&daddr=201+SE+12th+Ave,+Fort+Lauderdale,+FL&f=d&dq=James+Randi+Educational+Foundation&sll=26.107605,-80.141013&sspn=0.071946,0.071946&cid=26107605,-80141013,12517339452804944608&ie=UTF8&z=15).
Although it's arguable that "James Randi Educational Foundation" and "James Randi Educational Foundation The" are the same building, the paranormal aspect really comes in the fact that not only are the two buildings occupying the same physical space at the same time (http://www.experienceproject.com/stories/Was-Hit-By-A-Car/255), they are simultaneously separated from each other by nearly 2 miles while being the same building!
Explain that Mr. Randi!
I'd definetly be on for visiting the Randi Foundation, Eric.
Hey Eric! Randi? Of course... I will probably know him already by that date, but count on me ^_^
Eric: Yeah, definitely. I can try out for the $1M Challenge prize while I'm there also; I've been practicing making psi-balls.
Andail: Hooray. Been a long time since last.
I would be on for Randi. I love how the old guy hasn't aged since the 70's. Personally I think he's exercising his powers of the mind. Maybe if enough of us go we could convince him to actually be there?
Put me down for having a vehicle. I also might be coming with plus one, depending on how long I can hold a relationship, and whether or not she'd like to be submerged in nerdom.
I'm game for the James Randi thing, and I'll take a crack at the million. I do this amazing thing where I talk to the dead. They don't talk back, so the conversation has awkward pauses, but they don't seem to mind.
I don't know how I feel about going to Disney during the mittens event, but sometime before or after would be awesome. Those of us in Florida should do a gloves event that scouts out cool things to do for mittens sometime between now and Mittens.

Money is sent and tickets are booked. Nobody can escape my wrath now.
P.S. Do not spend the money I sent you on cocaine, Grund!!
One thing I'm curious about: what kind if tempreaturs should we be expecting? High ones obviously, but is it shorts-temp in the evenigs too? Just so I know what to pack. (I'll bring more than swimming trunks + flipflops, don't worry!)
Wahey Grundy, thta's $360.22 heading your way! Catch! :D
Got it, thanks. :)
Temperatures are most likely going to be hot and humid 80-90 degrees during the day, and hot and humid 80-90 degrees at night too. It will also probably rain.
Don't forget to dress for aligators.
-MillsJROSS
Don't forget to dress for as alligators.
That's better. 8)
P.S. POST 3000 BABY!
I'm definitely maybe.
Whats the situation on how much the deposit is.
And whats the situation on getting that back if, by June 1st I realise I can't go.
If you're not sure at this point, you can wait until late May to send your share of the money.
Cool, but I'm still confused. You want $360 from each of us before Mittens (now, as the deposit) or is that the total cost per person for the whole week it's rented?
Quote from: Grundislav on Thu 29/01/2009 00:31:51There is also a $1,000 security deposit, but I will cover that. This means if you break anything I will personally come after you!
Uhhh...RTFFP M0ds.
;D
I'll clarify for you, Mods:
The total cost for the house for the week is $8,204.50. Now, this includes the refundable $1,000 security deposit, which I am paying for. Take that away and the total cost for the week's rental is $7,204.50.
7,204.50/20 = $360.22, which is what each person has to pay for the entire week based on 20 people attending.
If more than 20 people attend? Well, then we take the surplus amount of money, divide it by however many people do show up, and each person gets a refund of that amount.
The reason I am asking for people to pay now is because I am writing the renter checks for $4,102.25 now and on May 29, and I don't want to deplete my bank account before Mittens.
I'm too lazy to read through...1.5 page of posts...so I'll ask here. Is there a maximum amount of guests we can bring?
At the moment I am leaning towards discouraging bringing guests. I know most people with significant others want to bring them along, but this ramps up the attendance count, and if we have a limited amount of beds, we're not going to have a very comfortable sleeping arrangement.
So, while I'm not outright saying "no guests allowed!", I do ask you to please consider that we're already at 20 confirmed attendees with 11 maybes...that's 31 people in a house that sleeps 23 comfortably. If your guests don't mind sleeping on the floor and being in cramped quarters with a bunch of adventure game nerds, then by all means bring them along. Otherwise it doesn't seem fair to make them pay to be uncomfortable.
Yeah, I think non-AGS people is probably a bad idea at this stage, given how many genuine AGSers want to attend, and how limited space is looking...
Don't forget the last 'non-ags' guest we had almost killed scotch in the icy french canal.
Oh, sorry for expressing myself stupid, I mean how many we can be in total. I wasn't talking about bringing non-agsers.
Well, scotch has a death wish anyway. I'm sure he'd have thought of another way to get himself nearly killed.
Edit: Money sent, Grundislav. Don't use it all on cocaine.
The house says it sleeps 23, we can probably fit 27-30 without too much of a problem.
Also, there is payment info in the very first post, in case anyone missed it.
Flights are booked, payment will be within the next month or so, hooray for all!
CJ, Creed, Esseb and I have booked flights, so I guess we're definite definites.
Finally I will be attending a meet! I can't wait to meet that EriColossal. I hear he is awfully dreamy.
More like awfully nightmarish :O
With dreams of burning Wambuses. :=
Sylpher: I hear he's a Colasshole.
QuoteCJ, Creed, Esseb and I have booked flights, so I guess we're definite definites.
What flight did you get?
We're having a pre Mittens road trip down from New York (with unfortunately no room left for anyone else to fit in), so our flights aren't similar to anyone else's, since we get in the Wednesday before Mittens.
We leave on Monday 06 at 20:45 from Miami though, on British Airways BA0208.

HOORASSHOLE!
I booked my flight, as well. I'll be landing in FLL so I will probably catch a cab to the house since it is pretty close and most people will probably be landing in MIA.
Despite what you may think, the Colasshole does not taste like chocolate. It tastes a bit nutty.

NONSENSE!!
To get to the house I have to drive past FLL. When we find out other's flight times we'll coordinate and I'll pick anybody up who's flyin' into FLL.
Just to re-iterate I am still very interested in coming. It just all depends on whether or not I find myself a job.
Ok, so far we have 33 total interested people. Ten people have already paid. The house sleeps 23 comfortably.
So...the disparity in numbers becomes apparent. Although I know we can fit more than 23 people in the house, I would be hesitant to push that limit too much further, so I am going to have to set an attendance limit of 30.
If this seems unfair, please keep in mind that we are paying money to rent this house so we can be comfortable and have space. Even though it would be great if everyone who wanted to come could, it would be more unfair to people who spent the money for the house and flights to spend the week sleeping on the floor.
The second check is due 30 days before check-in, i.e. May 29, 2008. I would like to have all the payments in by then, so I am going to set the cutoff date for June 1st, 2008. This should hopefully give people enough time to get their money together as it's 28 days before Mittens.
So, if you are interested in coming, but have not paid by June 1st, 2008, your space at Mittens will be forfeit.
Also, please only send your money if you are 100% sure you are going to attend. Having to refund money in non-emergency instances can get complicated, and might affect the price for everyone else, so I would like to avoid it if at all possible.
That is all.

I'd say, the people who've already paid willl still get to sleep comfortably, the rest will have to make do with the sofas / tents on the beach, etc. It's only fair, isn't it? ;D ;D
BTW some information for anyone who's going to pick up people from FLL (take notice, Jeremy :) ), from what I can make of my e-ticket, my plane departs from Philadelphia and lands at 21:09 (on sat. june 29). Chances are this isn't conveniently timed for a picking-up (I think chances aren't the right word; Ir's more like
very inconvenient), so what
would be most convenient is if there would be a street address I could direct a cabbie to. Since I can't find one on the homeaway site, it would be very cool if anyone could tell me how to make the cabby believe I'm not pulling his leg when I ask him to take me to 2Chateau Mittens, please." "What do you mean you don't understand, it's in north-Hollywood." " Well, go on, floor it, what are you waiting for?"
Hey, I don' t post here often, but I am still in and I will pay asap... Lore is in, too :)

It's probably, at most, a 10 to 15 minute drive (~6 miles) to the airport from the house so it's not a problem!

Not to worry, I'll PM everyone the exact address closer to the date. International flights require an address to stay at when filling out the customs cards, anyway.

Just so everyone knows, you now need to fill in an electronic permission to travel for travel to the US under the VWP now. This came in on Jan 12 2009. This needs to be filled out before you travel.
https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/ (https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/)
You need to apply for this now, or they won't let you in. Just another way of securing America's borders. Keep in mind it is not a visa, just an authorisation to travel to the customs people at the border. You still need to get a visa approved on entry.

I had no idea this was going on :/
That is sickening -_- of course it won't affect me too much personally, but it's like they are inventing new ways to dicks in the name of assumed safety. As if having all the documents and the three necessary checkpoints at US immigration isn't enough. I really hate borders, sometimes to the point of having actual headaches (for real, like the kind that hurt).
Out of all the countries I have been to, getting back into the US is the hardest one to work through at immigration.
Disgusting... all I can really say :'(
Actually the ESTA is exactly the same as the visa waiver card that visitors from countries that don't need visas (e.g. UK) needed to fill in on flight. It's exactly the same with the same requirements, except you fill it in in advance and not on the flight. You do not also need to apply for a visa if you are part of the visa waiver programme.
It's different, because you now have to convince a computer that you are not a terrorist, willingly submit your personal data to the American government (bet they log your ip as well...) and then finally, convince a grumpy customs official that you are not a terrorist. I'd rather fill out a piece of card with my details on it and submit on entry.
I too agree wholeheartedly with what Disco says... well sort of... I had problems with my flight to Australia due to an electronic permission to travel not going through properly. Even after I proved I'm an australian citizen to the idiot at the check-in desk. But on the other side... no problems.
America has the dickiest border protection in the world. They could at least welcome you to America like the cell phone networks do. Never have I had a welcome to America from a customs official. I've heard they are told to be dicks to you to 'protect America's borders'.
Yeah, not to hijack the thread too much, but it is different since even citizens had to fill out those cards on the plane, and now it requires everyone going into the country to submit more information than before, and things that can easily be lied about anyways, questions that no one would ever answer in the positive if they wanted to get in.
And yes, the border guards are meant to be dicks, unlike places like France and Greece, and heck even the UK is easy where I just get a friendly question by one (1) single customs agent about where I'm staying and they hope I have a good time *STAMP*
Mittens 2009 here we come!!! I just hope all you over-seas people can get in!!! ;)
Yeah I'm about to pay for my spot, once I withdraw the funds from my online account. This is usually one of the more exciting parts of the planning stage, it is always satisfying to have that part behind me.
I am still uncertain as to which airport I will be flying into, but it looks like Fort Lauderdale at the moment. I'm assuming that it is closer too, being 6 miles, than Miami airport? The website makes it sounds like it is smack in the middle between the cities.

Why should we welcome you to come here, get massively drunk, complain about our country and then leave? :=
...without even having the common courtesy to let us molest you first.
YOU ARE WORSE THAN MY LAST DATE. OFFICIALLY.
On task:
Looks like it will cost me around 100 bucks and 2 days to get to Fort Lauderdale, so provided I get some more money in the near future my attendance potential will be greater than 75%.
The state should be able to pay my deposit in about a months time. Woo! ;)
Ok, so there is a slight modification in the cap.
I spoke with the property managers, and it seems 23 is the limit. This is sharing beds. If nobody minds bringing a sleeping bag, I'll raise it a bit, but this means I still have to lower the attendance limit to 25.
First post has been updated.
If we get more people coming (over the limit) there's always the option for those over the limit to get a few rooms at a hotel ... if there was 2-3 to a room it would probably be cheaper for each person than the week at the big-house! And a lot of hotels will offer some kind of group-rate if you book a block of 3 rooms for a week.
And it's Hollywood ... there's probably a few hotels in every direction (accept east ... unless it's on a boat. Which could be fun too)
Grundislav; the website doesn't seem to list the actual location/address! Do you have that information? I wanted to search for some hotels close to the area but couldn't find the address! I'm sure there are a few (hotels) within walking distance of the house...
True, Darth. Hotels are always an option, but the problem is not having everyone under the same roof. France was different because we had the gite, but it was within walking distance of the chateau. Hotels would require a drive. If people don't mind this, then we can do it, but it kind of defeats the purpose of renting the house.
Yeah ... in lookin' at the location on Google maps it definitely would be a "drive" to any hotel.
I'm [a bit] surprised in how far it is to the beach. Now I know why the listing (on that website) doesn't give an exact address!! Still, not a big deal! In a car it's only a minute or two drive to the beach (and it could be walked as well! It's nowhere near as long as the hike to the town/pubs in France!) and well worth the lower cost!
As for everybody being under the same roof I totally agree!! I just meant if there were some that couldn't come 'cause of the limit, to my way of thinking, not staying in the same place (but close) is better than not coming at all right?
Yeah, but bear in mind that walking distance is a very subjective term. Medieval (as in: adults who lived between 1095 and 1272) merrily walked from roughly where I'm sitting now all the way to Jerusalem, Admittedly there may have been some boats in use somwehre along the way, but that won't have been much.
Of course, they didn't have to get therein time before the drinks or dinner were served.
;D ;D ;D
So a bunch of people have to sleep with each other anyway??
How do you plan to cater for us hetrosexuals? :P
Easy: get over yourself.
Id rather get over Andail but he's not even confirmed...
I suppose Mittens isnt Mittens unless Im forced into or end up inducing some kind of gay incident :P
But going back to women, assuming Miami is as chick filled as it says it is, do they all say No like Noo like that chick does on CSI: Miami? I love it .^^
Also Nip/Tuck is a documentary, right?
The best part is that neither CSI Miami nor Nip/Tuck are actually filmed here.
Burn Notice is, though.
Can't go wrong with Bruce Campbell.
Should everyone get a course in Mexican Spanish before the trip? It has become commonplace, right? Like, the McDonalds menus and staff speak only Spanish, or so I've heard.
Hey dudes, I don't think I'll be able to make it this year. :(
GDC is going to be a big expense for me, and I really don't think I can afford both that trip and Mittens. Alas...say hi to Mickey and Minnie for me.
(Also, if anyone else here is going to GDC, I'm giving a talk at the IGS. Come say hi.)
Is this something someone could crash if they lived in the area? Just to meet some of the people here.
I used to live in Ft Luderdale, but I happen to be back down for a the next few months. ;D
EDIT: Oh, and if anyone needs to figure out transportation, at least from the airport, I live near enough, and with a minivan, so let me know. Eric's Free Taxi service available.
Ooo, I'm sorry, but we've filled our allotment of total "Erics" we can have at this shindig. Unless you are one and the same Eric, just from a different time period.
It's happened before...
Would I have to know something only the accepted Eric would know? ;)
I'm pretty much at this point a confirmed definite. I have the funds. My manager advised me that if needed I can absolutely take the time off unpaid as long as I request it "in advance" (which translates as "prior to the dates I am requesting off, but not now"). I'm hoping to actually have paid time off for at least part of the trip.
I'm going to hold off on making a payment just yet simply due to the fact that I like having some padding in my bank account and I figure I can set the actual "necessary" funds aside prior to the due date anyway.
As far as any theme park adventuring that may have been previously discussed, if anyone was still planning on that, I'd just like to say that I'm out. Mittens is a go, but only for the week.
I will most likely fly into FLL (I believe), and will try to find a flight which best complies with the transportation schedulisms set in place.

Partee Pooper! :)
This site could give you a good pre-flight giggle, but maybe i'll just make you scared about not beng allowed on the plane: http://stupidsecurity.com/ (http://stupidsecurity.com/)
You gotta laugh don't you? You can take a chainsaw + any size of gaslighter with you on the plane as hand luggage, since they're not listed as illegal items. I0m off to the nearest convenience-store to buy me a chainsaw, you know, just in case the pilots die of food poisoning, then someone needs to get into the cockpit to fly the plane (and pass on the fish!). And that flamethrower? It's to ward off evil terrorists, sir.
I recommend you don' t do it and fill your pack with funny stuff for mittens in spite of a heavy chainsaw to prove how silly law makers are...
Yeah, the excess luggage surcharge would be enormous!
So, 7 weeks until Mittens, and just over 2 weeks until the payment deadline.
Is anyone else still planning to come who hasn't paid yet, or is our list of 21 definites now our final group?
Yes, remember the June 1 deadline still stands. Obviously if we haven't hit the 23 person cap by then it will be extended until we do, however this also means there are only 2 spaces left, so if you're planning on coming, now would be a good time to let us know.
I've put a lot of thought into it and due to two (2) large unforeseen unavoidable bills that threw some things out of whack...I have to regrettably back out.
I could actually probably afford it still, but I would really be pushing the envelope and for various reasons I have decided against it. I didn't want it to come to this because I have been looking forward to it quite a bit...
I can't meet the 1 June deadline for payment because I can't guarantee that nothing else is going to come up.
I'm sure you were all so anxious to meet me. :P
I know Chris was...
Quote from: Pumaman on Thu 13/12/2007 20:45:00QuoteYes, yes, and HELL YES. Chris I may be straight, but I am totally gay for you right now.
I guess I'll have to hold you to that at the next Mittens.
;D
Has been for some time...sorry to keep you waiting babe. ::)
I've been hemming and hawwing long enough. I am still not sure what my situation will be with my fiancee moving in (visa is about a month or two away from clearing), and things will be very busy around that time. Rather than draw it out I will have to give it a definite say "no". Have fun in FL!
-Dave
I've already told Grundislav, but it's a no from me as well. I've barely got enough spare cash right now to cover the base cost of Mittens, and that wouldn't include my fare there and the food/other stuff I'd have to buy. If the next one is in California I'll be there, though. Somehow.
Right after I went to Mittens '04 I thought, "If Grundislav is hosting this thing one year, I'll be the first to sign up!".
Unfortunately, many things can happen in 5 years, and it seems that I won't be able to make it... there's other expenses and travels that I must also pay this year.
So, I'll leave you all with my envy of those going there and wish you all the best in Florida!
Bump!
Travel information is in the first post. If you haven't responded yet please do so so I can compile the list.
You all can disregard my PM :) I can get the information from the first post! D'oh!
Holy farts! There is only like 1 week til Mittens!
I am sure Grundislav has some activity ideas but I couldn't help but look some up online.
There is a Science museum in Miami that looks cool:
http://www.miamisci.org/
And a zoo!
http://www.miamimetrozoo.com/
And there is a 4th of July celebration in Hollywood on the Broadwalk with a firewroks display
http://www.visithollywoodfl.org/events.aspx
Personally though, I am most excited about the nude beach about 20 minutes away. Who is ready to see naked old people with me????? Or should I say, who is ready to go blind???
I just went to that nude beach yesterday, and boy oh boy was it ever blinding!
The museum is alright, as is the zoo. Certainly things we could check out.

Fixed. Too bad I'm a Mittens regular non-attendee. :'(
/me goes hiding again after his random spamming.
Tits! I am in!!!
EDIT: What about visiting Randi? Any chance?
Nude beach eh? well that's gonna make packing easy... ;D
Hope you guys have a blast. Don't bother mailing me any sand, though; there's plenty where I live already!
I know, you can mail me money instead!
You know what I am like I would totally go to the zoo and science museum :D

Oh man I just looked at the animals that are at the Miami Metro Zoo and I AM SUCH A NERD but I want to see them :D Giant River Otters <3 <3
Jess... I've seen you naked already...
So that's the color your hair turns when naked.
Who knew?!
Sadly the JREF has an open house the last wednesday of every month, we will be in florida the FIRST wednesday of the month. Boo
I might still call and see if anything can be done.
You guys, you guys, you may have seen my bones but you have not seen my BONER.
But this one time, at Feursteins NY camp...
I leave for GLORY in fifteen minutes. See you Roadtrippers in a day or so, and everyone else in Miami, should we survive.
Well, well... In some minutes Lore and me depart from Benidorm to Valencia' s airport by bus. One night at Valencia, and in Miami tomorrow.
Wish us luck!
Good luck on your travels, early arrivers!
For those arrving at MIA on the 29th, a suggested meeting point has been Concourse E ( http://www.airportterminalmaps.com/images/MIA-terminal-map.gif ), as it's in the middle :)

That sounds like a good plan actually. I'll be arriving the 28th, staying in a hotel within spitting distance of the airport so I can easily make it back there the 29th, ready to stash myself away in the trunk of someone's car. ;D
Sounds good. It looks like I might be the first to arrive at MIA on the 29th, but of course I won't recognize/be recognized by any of you. I could stand there with my arms raised in the air, wearing mittens on my hands, or I could lurk behind a pillar until the rest of you gather. (Or Miez can do the same if he shows up early.)
By the way, Mitten vets, anything particular I should bring?
I'm just wondering who will be the one to spend the night in an airport this year ... I had the privilege of it last year.
Can't wait to see everybody!
FYI - Nacho Lore and I are going to Orlando this weekend (to Disney World) ... if anybody is in the area and would like to come with us let me know!
Have fun guys! Get as much on video and in pictures as is humanly possible!
Have fun everybody...and please take as many pictures as you want at the Nude Beach. :)
Better yet, I'll give you a sneak preview:
Image won't load :-(
apparently it's forbidden.
Fransisco, you are such a tease.
Having been to said beach I can assume that picture was awful, and would've robbed me of sleep. Looking forward to meeting you guyses!
Sorry Grund! Monday is my birthday and as such I get ONE WISH. That wish is to see old naked penises at the naked penis beach. (I also get to rename the beach)

That sounds excellent! I think you guys will probably be waiting for us since we arrive right after you? And then Fransisco is picking us up I think?
Yes, Mills and I will be chauffeuring the MIA arrivals to the house. Mills is coming to my house and then we'll go to the airport from there and meet everyone.
I hope you put your money where your mouth is, Jess. If we do make a trip to the nude beach, you're expected to participate. Otherwise, the naked old people come hit you with their shriveled genitals!
I'll wear my dunkin' hat!
Actually you arrive before us, if your arrival time in the first post is correct! Also Adam and I have to go through crazy US security and get fingerprints taken etc, how much fun that shall be! - So we may take a bit longer through security/baggage than most.
So, just to hammer down the actual details - for those people arriving on Miami or Ft. Lauderdale airports on the 29th:
- would it be smart to come up with a central meeting point? (like Concourse E ( http://www.airportterminalmaps.com/images/MIA-terminal-map.gif ) as Becky suggested).
- what kind of timeframe are we looking at?
Well it looks like all the people arriving at MIA on the 29th are arriving between 12:48 (Snarky) and 2:20 (Pesty), so I guess we should all gather at Concourse E (because its in the centre!) during that time, it seems like our flights have worked out close enough together that we're all arriving within that hour and a half. I guess MIA folk should exchange flight numbers as well so we can see if planes are delayed and when they've arrived etc. I assume that Grundislav and Mills will turn up at some point (I guess about 2:30? 3:00?) to pick us up.
DarkStalkey and I are on British Airways Flight BA0207 :)
Cool, then I will be at Concourse E, around 13:00. Waving a flag and wearing a red carnation. Possibly. :)
This is a public request to Scummbuddy!
You are the only one whose flight info I have not received. Please PM me with you arrival date/time/location as soon as you can!

You can have mine when I'm done with them - I hope you won't object to some mildly second-hand numbers? I promise I'll keep up on the maintenance schedule, regular oil-changes etc. I'll even polish them up for you before the hand-over, put them in a shiny new envalope (I can afford all the new envelopes I want, even ones with diamonds ruond the edges - once I'm done winning the lottery).

I'm afraid I don't have enough vacation time left to visit the 'states this year. But have fun y'all!!
I think it is only fair to let everyone know that the Pixel Blocks will be making their return.
There goes all of our free time.
Pixel Blocks? There goes all feeling in my finger tips!
So, any word on stuff to take with? Laptop? Beach towel? Nintendo DS? Fireworks? Camera? First aid kit? USB stick? Body paint? Multi-prong socket converter for all the Europeans who forgot theirs? Booze? Guide book? Old grudges that die hard? Ancient cursed amulet from inca tomb? Mini fridge? Pants? Pen & paper? Blank passports in case anyone loses theirs? Literally dozens of poorly developed game concepts?
I'm packing now, so anything you want or would recommend, please let me know. (But I'll have time to add stuff later, so don't assume you missed the chance.)
All I'm packing is my hopes and dreams and some underwear.
I already have my multi-socket converter okay >:(
This is going to be my last post and check-in of the thread before Mittens, because I am without internet at home (at my dad's right now) due to a lightning strike on Friday. Hooray for rainy season!
Snarky: Make sure you bring a beach towel, lots of sunscreen, and an umbrella. The rest is up to you.
Have fun you guys. Unluckily for me it turns out I actually could have gone, but by the time I found out the flights were way too expensive.
I love that the bringing of pants is in question. Bring rain slickers. It's windy, and a lot of water is falling from the sky. I wanna live in TV Florida. That's place looks amazing.

Trouser-based humor is really the highest form of comedy.
Rats, found out I could've gone too, but too late now.
I finally got properly employed by my school, so I'm spitting this financial crisis in its face and can look forward to a near future of decent economic stability. Furthermore, my summer job has been cancelled, so I now have some 7 weeks of vacation with nothing to do but lean back and chill out. A perfect setup for a mittens trip, in other words. But alas, too late now.
To those not at Mittens, you may find a "Mitteneer" in IRC over the next couple days as I leave a client window open for anyone walking by my computer.
