Not bad Berian but looks quite claustraphobic! Seems tough though, looks like every option means sacrifices, whether it's on price, people or distance to the nearest night-life...

DutchMarco also used this site and an example, it appears to be under 1000 euro for 22 people.

For the record, it seems I can drive abroard now, so if any UK crew want to think about renting a car when in Italia I'll happily share the driving. Or just do all of it, I'm not bothered :) I'm half thinking to drive out there from the UK, but that could be disastorous ;) Still, I'm open to people who want to form maybe one of the hire cars. Perhaps we can get a people carrier, or a Tourneo if there's a company that do 'em :)

We've looked at that place before.  It's not a bad location really and is a really nice looking villa.  English translation of that page:

I think the â,¬1000 you are referring to is the Deposit and cleaning prices.

m0ds

Ah right you are Tier! Then it's probably 8000 euro for a day.  :'(

AGA

That one seems to be $3860-4744 a week, according to other sites. Not too bad then, although the higher price would be a bit much per head. http://www.latorredicelle.it/index.asp <- looks like this is the official site.

m0ds

Neat. But that place is quite the opposite end of claustraphobic!! :o The site breaks each cottage down to seperate hire prices though? Oh, and it seems most of it is already reserved for late July/August. Still you know more about booking these places than me :) Even at the upper end, 4744 euro that's still under 200 euro each if we gaurantee 25 people to somewhere with a similar price. I can't remember what we paid each for the chateau en France, how much was that?

AGA

France was 3,539.29 Eur total, between 27 people. So about 130 Eur per person. I'm not sure why you think the one I posted is claustrophobic though. Like the one you mentioned, it's split up into like six little houses, and seems to be decently spread out. Certainly looks roomy enough from these photos: http://www.holidaylettings.co.uk/photodisplay.aspx?home_id=3969. "My" place seems to be completely open for bookings right now. But obviously none of this is final anyway, so we can always keep looking until most of us are satisfied!

magintz

I don't know about the rest of the people but is anyone really tied to busy school summer holidays? Just an idea but wouldn't earlyish September be cheaper and still very warm if we choose the right place.
When I was a little kid we had a sand box. It was a quicksand box. I was an only child... eventually.

AGA

I don't think anyone really wants to wait that long though. And why anyway, just to save a bit on paying high season prices?

m0ds

Ahhh yeah "your" place looks awesome too, Berian! Is the whole place bookable & private or is it sharing with other folk? Just the impression I get from "restaraunt", but I can't tell if that's on-site or not. Either way, yes, that place certainly looks less claustraphobic than it did when I skimmed the link earlier. Gets my vote :)

AGA

It's four or five individual apartments, but assuming we manage to book all the places (which seems to still be an option currently) we'll have it all to ourselves.

I am in. In I am.

Ubel

I might possibly afford it but I don't know yet. If I can and nothing else gets in the way I'll definitely come. Assuming there is still room.

Pumaman

I'll be there! I can of course be one of the drivers if we need to hire cars -- though ideally it would be nice to find somewhere that had at least a village of some sort within walking distance.

Layabout

Don't worry CJ, drink driving is like a national sport in italy. Much like taking a fall.

Italy, neat! That bumps my attendance from possible to probable, since it would be a few-hour drive by car for me. :) Of course I could give people from the same general area (Southern Austria, Upper Italy) a ride.

I have been in the Tuscany-area before, very beautiful indeed. I really hope it 'll work out with my job.

Sounds interesting, as it is not far away from me. I don't know if I will get a whole week off, is it possible to only come for a weekend?

cat, do you mean Mittens in general or hitching a ride with my car? Where from Austria are you from, btw?

In theory, Cat - yes, show the bloody hell up! You're more than welcome. Some people might have a problem with it, but I think accounting for extra people if they're "popping over" to the event is actually quite fun, despite the boundaries on certain location numbers. I'd say yes. You'd be one of the few maybe the only Italian person, and I know myself and quite likely CJ would definitely like to learn some language from you. See you there!

Biccilotti - make sure you show the bloody hell up too! ;)

AGA - Awesome, well, I held back on a reply, but basically - book it. Providing there is a town preferably within walking distance (based on the rather non-walking distance to civilisation in France) .. no-one else has commented on it but I think that location is mint. :)

As I did for Mittens (and Wintermeet) in '08 ... I'll probably fly into another country and rent a car to drive to Mittens.  So depending on where I fly into I could probably swing picking up some people!  As the time draws closer and we get more confirmation (location/dates) I'll post again when I make plans!

DutchMarco

I know I've stated(optimistically) that I'd (try to)  organize this Mittens, but with my current employment outlook I don't think it'd be a good idea if I were to attend at all  :'(  :'(, but if it were to be held here in NL, then I'd love to drop by for a day or so :)  :)  :).
