40 euro each way bici? or is that a return ticket :)

Each way! If we are enough (like, ten or so) I can go and beg for a lower price, but I need brains names of the traveller)

I think I can manage to get from Firenze to Arezzo without any problems (given that there is no sciopero ;-) ). But how do I get from there to the villa?

Chrille

So, 80 euro? Ouch! Still cheaper than if I'd flown directly to Firenze though. Bicilotti, is there a schedule for this train somewhere? How many times a day it leaves etc?

It seems there are going to be quite alot of us staying in Milan for at least one night. I guess a hostel would be the cheapest option.

Yeah - I'd have the same question. I'm actually going to be in Italy a week early (to see some of the sights) but getting to the villa is going to be ... interesting.

Ah yes much needed info. Hopefully some car renters will be able to pick you up and bring you from Foiana, Arezzo or further if there's any major problems. It may be good to ascertain just how many people will be going to Milan first and then look into more car rentals.

For bus times from Arezzo to Foiana della Chiana see page 43 of this PDF:
http://www.etruriamobilita.it/orari/_OrarioGeneraleInverno2009-2010.pdf

There appears to be a bus every 30 minutes or less, but I have no idea how to tell Friday from Saturday on that thing

I haven't found bus information from Foiana central to the villa, but if all else fails - get a cab from Foiana to Pieve Vecchia (and maybe take a google map snapshot with you too). It's a five minute cab ride.

Here's a map

You can point at a circle and say "Here. Heeeeeere.  .... No, no... Heeeeere. Yeah. Here." If anyone can provide the Italian for "Here, please" - that would work great in conjunction with the map. :P

You could probably ask a taxi driver in Foiana to take you to "Villa I Ponti .. Villa Pieve". I'm sure they do it frequently through the year! Shouldn't be more than 10 euro.

Don't forget to look at Street view to familiarise yourself with the actual location, and whats near it should you walk or be on a bus.

The blue dashed line = the bus route from Arezzo to Foiana.
Yellow circle = taxi rank, bar & shops
Yellow dots = "Strada Provinciale Siena-Cortona" aka the road to Mittens
Blue circle = the villa

Note, for the active amongst you, it's a 2 mile walk from Foiana to the villa. If you manage to find information on a bus from Pieve Vecchia then it's only about a three-quarter mile walk to the villa.

PS Yous Italians may find some bus info at the Foiana website? http://www.comune.foiano.ar.it/

No problem dude, just try not to take the wrong turn and end up 20 miles somewhere else! Not that you've ever done that before ;)

I'm planning to rent a vehicle for the following week so I may as well get it for Mittens as well.

I can take three or four from Milan (arriving at LIN-Linate at 9:30PM)

Pumaman

Ok, so 7 of us have booked flights which land at Milan Malpensa at 10:05am on Fri 30 Jul. We're planning to hire a car then to drive to and for the duration of mittens.

Is anybody else flying in to Malpensa who wants in on the car?

AGA

It now looks like being two four seater cars. Which would leave one possible space. However, we're also planning to spend the day and night in either Milan, so you'll have to be up for doing that too!

Grundislav

Would I be able to get in a car if I arrived in Milan on Saturday the 31st?

Scratch that.  I can arrive in Milan at 4:15pm on Friday the 30th.  If there's a space available in one of the cars, I'll gladly take it!

AGA

Hmm, well we're arriving quite a bit later than that. But we won't actually be leaving Milan until the next day, so I suppose as long as you can get into Milan yourself that'd be fine. I think there's a train station at the airport that would let you travel into Milan central yourself?

Could you possibly pick me up from Firenze or Arezzo?

Second that - if there's any seat left I'd like to apply for a seat as well ... either from Firenze or Arezzo (or any other place in the general area).  :)

@Miez

So, if its not possible, we could at least team up for the challange to get to the villa.
