MITTENS 2006 INFORMATION
(If you don't know what mittens is, please read the wiki (http://americangirlscouts.org/agswiki/index.php/Mittens))
* Mittens this year will be organised by Farlander.
* It will take place in Benidorm, Spain.
* From Wed 16th August to Wed 23rd August 2006.
* You must be 18 years or older to attend.

Yes, Farlander has kindly offered to host Mittens 2006 in Spain.
So presuming that this goes ahead, MITTENS 2006 WILL BE IN SPAIN. If anyone posts saying "Can't we have Mittens in Country XXXX instead", we will torture you slowly and painfully with the comfy pillow.
:)
So... In whose luggage will I travel?

That'd be great actually.
Mittens in SPAIN?!
I'm gonna start saving up!
Mittens 2006 will be in Spain, except major disaster, and the probably date will the the first week of September, less tourists, lower prices, lower temperatures.
Everybody is invited, considering that you'll need to be 18. No matter if you've discussed with me or do you hate me, or do you think that you're going to. My experience says that Mittens cures that.
I am specially interested in meeting Anarcho, because even having a totally different opinion than me into some issues, he is obvious intelligent and tallented, I really like him. Aussie, the Induráin-Real Madrid fan, is also invited, but he'll have to pose in a photo with the Official FC Barcelona t-shirt, sorry.
The place will probably be this... http://www.camping-villasol.com/ingles.html
So much cheaper than the vacational complex that is the College I went, but just a road-crossing away (for those mitteners who I mentioned the splendid location of my former school).
The price is quite good, 6.3 euros per day and adult... Too good, actually, I'll browse for further info, because it sounds illogic... XD
I'll make a post... ASA I consider necessary (maybe October, November) with some more info.
Edit: I wait for you as well, Rui...
September? Oh uh... :-/ I will prolly be at school, and skipping a week is not too good for it...
Quote from: Farlander on Wed 24/08/2005 12:04:59Aussie, the Induráin-Real Madrid fan, is also invited, but he'll have to pose in a photo with the Official FC Barcelona t-shirt, sorry.
Ok, but right next to Farlander wearing Figo's Real Madrid shirt. I'll bring it along.
And I can bring the bike too.
Hm, first week in September means most people will have started schools/uins. At least I know I will have.
How about mid/end-august?
QuoteEdit: I wait for you as well, Rui...

...1st week of September? Dangerous date...
All is argueable, dear Petter... The price fare table I've seen is not divided into fouthnights, as I expected, but just as "high" and "low" season. So, September wouldn't be a difference agains Augost, economically talking, both are "high".
The problem should be booking... So, I think I'll have to make that thread asap to have a very approximate idea of the people coming BEFORE the end of the year. Fortunatelly for me (for my familiar economy), and unfortunatelly for you, there is a big waiting list for accommodations here.
My town is crowded, 400,000 visitors against just 100,000 locals in summer. That means that you might find that Benidorm has the "complete" notice in the dates you expected to come, even calling for booking 2 or 3 months before the trip.
So it should be better to book ASAP, 5 or 6 months before.
So, people... discuss. I think we will be like 20 or 25, so, to be honest, I'd go on with September even if some guys must go to school, they will be able to come in 2007. Let's remember that it was CJ who propossed the date even before I mentioned anything about it.
But it would hurt me as a wasp bit if Petter (or any other of the Mittens veterans) couldn't come. So... loosing 5 days of school (the first ones, which are often quite relaxed) has never been a big deal in Spain. Dunno about the other countries. Could you make an effort Petter or it's definitevelly impossible? PM if necessary, I'd like to keep this post quite clean for "Mittens '05 the return". I'll start another thread for Mittens 06 asa I get home, though.
5/6 months before? Next year, then. No way of telling what can happen in that time.
There are 3 popular airports near Benidorm: Alicante, Valencia and Murcia, so it is very well communicated. Malaga and Granada are not too far away either...
I think it would be best to have it during the holidays of people's colleges, though. I would be able to come, whenever... but I'd probably go in a hotel somewhere nearby since I've got a wife and two screaming kids to worry about/keep away from Helm's fists.
Mittens 2006 will be here:

I'll post further info in this post, but go on with the discussions of the date (middle-final of August) or first week of Spetember here.

Malaga and Granada are not too far away either...
You'd be pushing it a bit. Allow for a 3 hour drive from Granada (over 300km) and at least 4 from Malaga (about 400). You might as well fly into Madrid for that. Road communication with Benidorm is far better.
Alicante, el Altet, is Benidorm's Airport. It's 40 kms. away from the centre of the town, closer as many of the London's airports to the City. It was build because of Benidorm, and it's speciallized in receiving low-fare aircrafts from the British Islands coming to visit us. As said, my advise, everybody make a mini-brittens at Stansted and come here by Easyjet.
As much as I want to go to Mittens next year, I think it might be too early to start discussing about it yet. I mean, Mittens 2005 just ended! There will be plenty of time to discuss Mittens 2006 later.
Btw. "Now it looks like semen."

Yes, and I am not even home yet! Londonish at the moment. Please leave the discussions for '06 until everyone (i.e.- me) gets a chance to clear their head and reflect on the Mittens that just elapsed.
The problem might be that if I call in January of 2006 tell might reply "We have no place till September or October" so... I would do the effort...

That's awfully nice of you to say Farlander. I would very much like to meet you too, I'm sure we'll be able to put our differences aside. ;D
Seriously though, I've always wanted to visit Spain and this seems like a great chance. I'm not sure how I'll run this by my girlfriend/domestic partner, maybe she'll come along. Do you all talk about adventure games the whole time, i.e. will a non-AGSer feel super awkward?
I'll put in my best effort to make it there. :)
Though the date worries me. Around that time schools have started, and skipping five days from the near-beginning of my supposedly last year at senior high (or college, however you prefer, the part of school during which you turn 18)Ã, might be easy, but on the other hand, it might mean some sort of minature d00m...
(I'd like to see as much people as possible at the what-ever-it-will-be-called AGS meeting in Finland next summer, which Haddas promised to arrange ¬_¬)
EDIT: Can't I &%¤#"%!%¤ anymore even say "or" with a raising accent without getting txt-spelling-removed!??1!?1!
¬_¬
I'm trying the best I can. I really hope I'll be able to host it.
Next summer I'll have the right to travel freely alone around the world so Ill do my best to attend an -ittens.
In terms of the date -- we discussed it briefly at mittens this year. Basically, July and August are peak tourist months and flights are much more expensive.
As far as I was aware, universities don't start back until at least mid-September, but I am obviously wrong about that.
So how about the last week in June, if the first in September is off the cards? Basically if being able to get cheaper flights means more people can make it, then it's worth doing.
I might start my studies in uni/polytechnics next year, and if so they would start in the beginning of September (like, first or second week of September). And if flights are more expensive in July and August, the last week of June sounds very good.
June quite often hits exams, i had my last Exam on 21st June this year, but A2 afaik often are late june.
Most Finnish universities start on September 1st, I think. Atleast that's when I start this year. I'll do my best to attend Mittens 2006, and anytime in June, July or August would probably be ok for me, but not September.
As long as it's early June or late August, it won't be during peak season. I believe the cutoff dates are the 15th of June and August.
At any rate, should we really be discussing this so soon? I know it's good to plan early, but at least give it a few months before serious discussions open up.
It would be great if it was between june and august, so maybe sometime in july. I might be going back to school next year, and usually they start sometime in August.
Yeah, I'm planning on going! :)
Why? Tal ves porque hablo Castellano... al menos que hablen Catalán.
But if it's right in the middle of the summer, flights will be ridiculously expensive. I for one, probably couldn't afford it. I like the idea of the first week of September. Of course, I don't go to school.
Why not have it in Winter? Winter in Spain is like the UK summer... also, I will be in Spain in early January anyway... ;)
Easter Mittens? How many people things this is a good idea? ::)
It sounds quite good for me...
School school school... best for me would be the summer :/
My schooling commonly ends in mid-April and starts again about September 1st (August 30th this year), so perhaps last week of June or first week of July can accomodate most people. Being in Spain, it will be cheaper for the westerners than this years Mittens no doubt.

Easter Mittens? How many people things this is a good idea?Ã, ::)
Easter is at different dates in different countries...
I'm in, even if I have to spend my student loan. I think September would be good, but I think quite a lot of people have University. Me personally won't start till October, although as I'm in a sanwhich degree I'll have a years work placement.
I think late August sounds good, but don't particularly mind.
As for Easter, I think that sounds even better. Everyone is off for easter hopefully, flights are cheaper, weather is cooler but not cold, and money should still be abundant for me, but what about booking, will this leave enough time.
I vote easter over summer.
CP... In my country we allways make coincide Easter with the full moon week, because in the Bible it is said that during crossifixion (sp) there was full moon. Anyway, there are 2 weeks of holidays, even if in some countries the dates move a little it shouldn't be a problem, I think... Anyway, if there's someone expert in religious calendars, please tell me, Easter sounds quite appealing, as far as I see.
If not, I guess we would have to give a try to late August, but you should have in mind that flights could be more expensive (let's hope not ridicullously expensive, as Anarcho said)
I think I shall form a heavy metal band and call it "Crossifixion"
It sounds cool and it makes sense! :D
'round here Easter holiday is just Friday - Monday, which means two days off school... and in that time you just can get there, unpack, repack, and get back :\
Shit, here we have two weeks of holidays (at least the schools have).
It seems like a nice place for next Mittens, but are there not any other perhaps slightly more secluded options to look into? Seems like a fairly large city after all.
I'm afraid it's way to early to tell if or when I can go.
The Easter holidays are the time of year where I'm sweating over coursework, so any time in July-August is far, far better :P
If we must plan this early in advance, I think we might have to look over our alternatives. As much as I want to see Nacho's home town, I can't set dates in stone this early, and I'm sure many other members feel the same.
I think one or two months in advance is all you can demand of people, really.

Mittens cures animosity? Wow. I should've gone there a long time ago. :D
On the subject of dates, perhaps something more formal could be done? Perhaps if everybody gave the ranges of vacation, school, and exam periods, and if we super-impose those periods to touristing seasons ... you might be able to see which periods are the lesser evil, no?
I volunteer to write a program to view all the ranges!

I think it is much more sensible, but I would allow 3-4 months (flights).
In the UK a standard Easter break is two weeks, while for us University students it can differ between 2-4 weeks.
According to about.com (http://catholicism.about.com/od/easter/f/tyeasterfaq.htm"); lent begins March 1, 2006. Easter is Sunday, April 16, 2006. Which means that most people who have two weeks off will break up a week before and return the week after.
Cons - Religious time of year for many people, you could be in a foreign country for Easter instead of with the family etc... August is a general time when most people are on summer vacation, while Easter is a little trickier when organising dates.
Pros - Cheaper, more likely able to book time off work in Easter especially with Good Friday and Easter Sunday being day's off for almost everyone. Less Tourists.
I still vote for Easter, that way when I get a Summer Job, I won't have to take time off work, or even quit. Easter is right before exam period, but a week off out of a general two - three shouldn't be devestating, everyone can do with a rest. Coursework as Shen said will also be a big issue with me but I still feel confident I can get it done and out the way before/after the trip.
I agree that at least 4 month's is needed to book this as many of us have to get flights, and especially if it is going to be in August.
As for August dates, someone should look into flight prices now, check out when in August is cheapest.
EDIT:- Well I've been proven wrong, flights from London to Alicante from April 15th for a week where £150, while August 15th was only £120. This is probably due to there being more flights available. The April one was from Heathrow, while the August one was from Gatwick (cheapest options for each choice)
Perhaps it is better to stick with August, we just better book everything early enough.
I've been browsing, but, obviously not better than Magginz, for flights to Alicante. I haven't seen flight in further dates than March 2006. 120 â,¬ is amazing, I spent almost 500 for going to Greece.
And Chrille... It's a big town, but I have a lot in confidence into its appeal. Our "People coming back" ratio is 88%, quite impressive, IMO. Also, we would be almost in the limits in the town. My town is like a big sausage along the beach, and we would be at the north extreme of that sausage, at the skirts of the local mountain, very close to the water park.
Nature is close, an urban mittens would be a change, but I've been in two mittens and I know (I think) how too keep the charm and the original feeling. A change, but not too radikal. :)
you can get a flight to barcelona for £8.99 right now with ryan air... one way, but there is a bit on top of it for booking fee and crap. but that is still bloody cheap... that was on ryanair's website...
Barcelona isn't Alicante.
Still, that is pretty cheap. Perhaps RyanAir fly to one of the airports near Benidorm, but that can wait. First we really need to choose dates.
What we really need is to have a big vote, Summer or Easter and then plan the dates around that.
The dates I chose for Easter flights was flying out Goof Friday, I imagine it would be much cheaper to fly another week during Easter.
I vote Summer, and so does DarkStalkey. We both will have too much coursework and he won't have enough money.
Easyjet fly to Alicante from Basel, Belfast, Bristol, Dortmund, Geneva, Liverpool, Gatwick, Luton, Stanstead, Newcastle and East Midlands. STN-ALC is a 50 quid all included in the March 2006 date I tried, which is the latest date which they are selling tickets for now.
Ryanair fly to Murcia instead which viamichelin thinks is an hour and a half by car. They fly there from Luton, Stanstead, Dublin, Prestwick, Liverpool and East Midlads
BMIbaby do from East Midlands, Hethrow, Notingham, Manchester Birmingham and Cardiff to Alicante
Flights wouldn't be a problem... I am almost decided for the last week of August 2006... Now it is August, the last week as well, and I am realising that it's not so hot, and it's less crowded, people is leaving. I know I can't demmand people to know if they'll be able to come, but I think I can guarantee 15-20 mitteners, so, as soon the majority says that the dates are ok for you, I'll make a phone call to the camping to know how it goes. I will ask for a reasonable date for booking in advance too, and I'll tell you. It might be 3 months, I think.
My darling lover amy has agreed to go with me next year. We're both 18 next year, about half way thru. Would we still be allowed to go if say the date was march?
It'll probably be the last week of August. Minimum age is 18, and if we accept people with months less, people with years less will start to ask for coming, and it'll be a mess. But I think we can make exceptions in some cases. Maybe you two, a couple very close to 18. We will see.
August is a great date! me and farl have sorted things. Seeing as i will be 18 in august things are good to go!
Mittens '06 here we come! :D
Benidorm! Sun, sand, sex, silly AGSers... Woot! That'd be awesome. And, if it is as Farlander said at this years Mittens, in a college - we will have NO excuse but to bring a laptop or three and make & finish a game within Mittens week!!1 Anytime of year is fine with me.
Dates sound good, i've missed two years (I know I can't believe you've had 2 whole mittens without your loveable magintz with you).
I shall be there come rain or shine...*
*note: i may not actually be there....**
**note: I'll really really really try with all my leprechaun charm
Perhaps we can persuade people to attend Mittens & Mittens only next year. I doubt I'll be organising a Brittens but there was talk of a Wittens. ANYWAY, this is all MILES away in time!
Well, if there is someone who can only go to one of them, perhaps they should be advised to go to mittens, while brittens (or wittens or whatever it'll end up being called) can be for people that definitely can't make mittens or for people that can make both.
It is called Wellies
I can probably only make Mittens, if there was a Brittens back at Laleham I could definatley make at least a day, but Welshland is ever so far away and I fear it is too far for just one day. But who knows.
Do we all really want to be in Aggies stomping ground, with all those welsh people looking at us funny? Hehehe...
I will definitly go to both. Most probably.
We will see. Ah bugger it put me down for it. I'll get there even if i have to travel in CJ's suitcase with drugs up my anus.
If you're travelling with CJ there will be more than just drugs up there.
I really wish I could go to both, but I shall see how my budget stretches. I'm saving for a new graphics card and various other thigns, but I shall see.
If Mittens '06 is alleged to be the 4th week of August, I shall start hoping for a 3rd week of July Wellies. I'm in pre-production for a five-six week escapade throughout the UK, France, Portugal and Spain that I wish to bookend with Wellies and Mittens España.
So I think the date and place has been near enough decided. Speak now or forever hold your peace... or until it is discussed again.
If I feel I've made a substantial contribution to the community by plane-booking time, I'll come!
Hmm, I do believed we overlooked one important detail when deciding the best time to hold Mittens V based on price: the ferry tickets for the overnight in Ibiza :D. Perhaps before we agree on a timeframe we should first research fares. It's too early to check August '06, but September may be comparable. Denia -> Ibiza on a Thursday morning with a return Friday night is â,¬120 for that month. The August fare should not be too much over this. Discuss!
I hatethatforkin'"we're going to ibiza!"song, therefore I am (not interested)
Bah, not interested in Ibiza :P Plus, I think I'm only gonna have enough money to travel there and feed myself, another â,¬120 is too much.
Bah, no Ibiza
But E!'s Wild On Ibiza is always hot! :P
If I'm going, I'm thinking about sticking out there for more than a week... maybe go to Barcelona and Madrid if possible. Is it possible to go without too much problem?
I know the AGSers... and maybe Ibiza is too much for our interests. In an easy (not acurate way, but speaking easy...) way to speak, Ibiza in August is a huge rave disco.
Sun, sand, sea, sex, drugs and rock and roll all in one week ... what more could we ask for!! :D
No rock 'n roll, but pop and dance music while men wearing swimming dresses try to grab your ass!
Ibiza is a no go. My friends would never face me again.
Besides, September = (possibly) school (for me).
I'm definatly a no for Ibiza. I'm fine with Benidorm, Barcelona or the likes. Also I agree with Petteri, although September would be cheaper many people will be returning to school/college/university.
A date sometime around the last week in August would be preferable for most I believe.
Hey suckers! I told that it's going to be the last week of August! :D
Ah, just a quick thought. Is this going to be the same old 5 days, because I wouldn't mind spending some more time in Spain looking at the local culture and brushing up on my Spanish, so if anyone else plans on doing the same, let us try to organise something closer to the date.
Well, if I manage to go
a) I'll bring my whole family
b) they wont be camping, so neither will I
c) we'll visit our friends in Malaga, too
If anyone else want to look at cheap flights WITHIN Spai, I believe Vueling are the low-cost operator for internal Spanish flights

As I said, I want to go to Madrid and Barcelona to look at the museums and architecture, though I bet some relatives of mine want to come as well, so maybe they can drop me off at mittens and get me in a week or maybe I can go to part of mittens or something... or maybe they want to hang out with us adventure nerd studionaires.

Assuming I can arrange $3000 in the next 9.5 months (which I can), I'll be spending six weeks in Europe in which I plan to attend a few different places, pre-Mittens Spain included. We could totally ogle at the local culture and brush up on our Spanish :D
For £285 I can get a Euro-Train card and travel all over Europe for one month with this one travel card. Hopefully I will be able to see some sites on my way down to Mittens and then see some more on my way back. Best start saving money now because this will probably be very expensive.

Although these trains only go to Malaga and Barcelona as the closet point to Benidorm :/
Whee! I have a potential backpacking partner :D
My plans, if I can seduce AGA into a 3rd week of July Wellies, were to take a 6-day backpackers tour of Scotland straight after Brittens, hang around Bayswater- London for a week, head for Paris for a few days before exploiting Portugal and riding bikes to the cotton candy stand with Brisby, and check out the champagñe en España for a bit before Mittens. Whew, six weeks in one sentence!1
Sorry I've been drinking :-[
Yeah! Fool drunk! We drink "CAVA", not Champagne! :P
Yay, looking forward to this. Although I don't plan to spend 6 weeks. But I do want to see Italy and Spain, and it would be nice to see Germany and France.
At the moment I'm mainly interested in the capitals but it depends on my budget / time allowance. Obviously the more time and money I have the more I will see.
How much are youth hostels nowadays around Europe.
If you like waterfalls, I'd recommend going to see La Monesteria del Piedra just off N11 Madrid-Zaragoza. It's really beautiful: http://www.coloredhome.com/Monasterio%20de%20Piedra/Monasterio_de_Piedra.htm
In Italy, Venice is incredible, but I've only really been there, Verona, and Catania
Interrail cards vary in price according to the countries you go to. When I did it, I went round Germany, Poland, Czech Repulbic, Hungary, Austria and Switzerland

The week commencing the 28th would cut into many people's learning experiences (for me the 28th is either the day before or day of my first class...but I don't care :P), so perhaps a mid-week start and end date are in order, perhaps Wednesday (16th-23rd)? Mid-week is usually cheaper anyways.

I told this to Farlander and he said he would call the campsite soon ask about the prices. Personally, I would prefer mid-August over the last week of August, and I hear other people prefer that too.
We need info!!
Anytime should be fine for me, i just have to book some time off work.
I'll ask for prices and put the table here... ^_^
Good news... There's no need to book. In the campsite there has been no problems for getting place in late august. I obviously overrated the sex appeal of my town. The area of the plots is 80 square meters, enough for 3 or 4 tents.
This are the prices. The guy at reception warned they can be as much 3% high. Remember to add the 7% tax. You gotta pay per day and person, and per tent, so, the most people per tent, the cheaper! (Orgy!!!)
Petter warned me that flights are chaper in wednesday, so... I suggest to book from wednesday 23rd to monday 28th. Please drop your opinion here!
how are you supposed to sleep inside a lightbulb? ???
I think it means the price of electricity stays constant thrugh the dates. You can watch TV in your tents! And power your tools! such as vibrating... toothbrushes!
People with children (Nikolas and SSH were interested in being in hotels)... please tell me if you can come in this dates, I will gather info about Hotels in the vicinity (Lope de Vega, Venus, Helios and Pueblo, though...) And "very likelies" miteneers, please, tell your opinion about the date.
August 23-28th means CJ will have to choose between Mittens and his friend's wedding. I would hate to be him in that situation :-\.

The week commencing the 28th would cut into many people's learning experiences (for me the 28th is either the day before or day of my first class...but I don't care :P)
well, I care a little bit actually.
Agreed, something like 16th - 23rd would be worth considering.
Farlander, I don't want to drag the thing up and down the dates withou being sure.
Me and mainly my wife have a tradition of deciding a bit late of what we'll do for the summer. And with the maternity leave she has, along with a chance of a new job we have no idea for the summer yet. So for the moment don't consider me at all, and if things work well, I'll definately arrange something through you or SSH (if he has arranged something as well).
16th - 23rd would be much better for me as well, and I believe AGA as Reading festival is on the last weekend of August, and I really want to go to that as well.
Same here, I think the 16-23rd would be much more do-able.
I didn't remember CJ's "wedding"... 16 will be the official first day, no probs... Actually, perfect, because there is a party in august, finishing on 15th, but that wouldn't affect us. So... a whole week, till the 23rd, or do we follow the costumed 5 mittens days? Sorry to bring this topic again, but I'd like to arrange it all asap.
I seem to have missed this thread :o ???
I'd like to come as well. 16th - 23rd sounds good to me.
Thanks for finding out the prices ... I'm also good with 16-23rd!
And also, while it may not be necessary to book, it would probably be a good idea to do so anyway once we have an idea of numbers, just so that we don't arrive and be told that they are full ;)
I am, almost probably, possibly definitely, in.
No dates are a problem. Cash flow is.
Apparently, no booking is accepted in that campsite. Fortunatelly, dad is mate of the owner and I think we'll able to get some kind of compromise to have the necessary plots.

Heh, I prefer a whole week. Last year it was 8 days (!) and time really does fly in good company.
Wow... I really thought it was a shorter space of time... Time really flies in good companies, yeah...
The only problem for me would be funds. I would really love to go...but...I have 0 cash right now.
I don't care when it is, i will be there. I may just bring some beer too.
Oh I'm a chef now, so I can cook some crap for you guys to eat.
hurrag!!!
Wait a second... Spain? Like, wow! That's very close to the Netherlands! Well, somewhat close, anyway. I'd love to meet you folks! :D
Spain? Wow, that...uh, is not close at all to Washington dc. Ticket prices are looking mighty steep, so I'm afraid I won't be able to make it this year. I pray next year will be on this side of the atlantic, as the rumours suggest....
Farlander, we'll have to debate muslim headware in French public schools some other time!
I don't know if I'll make it. I might stay in Brighton over the summer to work, in which case I might earn enough money to go to Spain. Otherwise I'll have virtually no means, seeing as I live rather expensively right now and don't work anything at all.
It would be a shame to miss out a Mittens (first time as well) especially in sunny Spain with sunny Nacho.
I'm coming, of course.
Andail. You're not missing mittens.
Stoopid pro-muslim Anarcho, he starts the whole thread and now he's chopping... :P
;)
Andail, you must come, if not I won't book the campsite and I'll give false info to the mitteneers to finish in the north pole or something.
Do they have static caravans available, as that might be a cheaper option for Nikolas's family, and my own?
I'll ask for cabins and caravans for rent.
Do you really want to bring your family to mittens? I'm not sure how well that'd work... unless you don't intend to spend much of the time with the AGSers.
Agreed. I don't really think Mittens is suitable for little kids/whole families, for various different reasons. I don't want to sound like an ass, but personally I wouldn't want little kids running around while trying to discuss with people. Remember that Mittens is a meeting for adventure game fans/creators and there's an age limit for reason.
But you might as well ignore me as I'm not sure what your plans are.
My plans, if I come, is to ditch the whole family to hang around with the rest of SSH family (so they both have company) and come with you guys and SSH? of course...
Do check for Caravans Andail...
PS. there is a possibility that al lthe family will be in Greece (and I can arrange that ;D), so maybe there sin't such a problem after all.
But as I said in an earlier post, it's much to early for me and me wife to decide... She has 2 months of maternity leave yet!!!!!! She's full of hormones... I don't want to gice here a hard time...
Not to jump aboard the naysay train, but I'd just like to back up sentiments that Mittens isn't really a family event. I understand that it makes things difficult for the married-with-children folks, but it really isn't the correct social environment for an entire family unit and might make things a little bit awkward for everyone.
Especially considering that one of the main Mittens activities is eating children, we don't want to have to sacrifice members of the attendees' families.
The thing is, under my understanding, to spend a week in Spain with the excuse in mittens, but with 90% of the times for the families and short visits to the "wankers"... But dunno, maybe I've pressumed too much.
Sort of that. You're right farl....
I wouldn't bring a 7 month old with you guys! You're nuts! ;D
And my older son is learning to play 1PS. Anybody has a problem?
I didn't think so...
Anyway, the way I feel is the following, and hopefully SSH feels the same way (dunno, haven't asked). For the time being count me and my family out, and if we decide to come, I'm pretty sure that there will be a Hotel to put a roof on our head, and time for me to spend with you guys (who needs sleep anyways?)
I'm glad this has been brought up, as I didn't know what the expectations of the family men were. You can't really know what Mittens is like from reading a few threads :P. I could scarcely imagine a 2-3 year old being present at about 97% of Mittens 2005.
Quote from: Grundislav on Fri 10/02/2006 20:11:50

Nah, they would have been safe with me. I only eat soy children.
Indeed. First, we'd only be there for 2 or 3 days, and although I'd introduce you to the wife and kids they wouldn't want to spend their time with you boring lot anyway ;)
With a pool and beach available, I think I can guess where they will spend 97% of their time.
We've got friends in Malaga and also want to look around various places in the south as my wife has hardly bee there, so we're going to hire a car and tootle around. Actually, we were thinking fo going to the Bristol Balloon Fiesta before we leave the UK too, in case anyone else is thnking of going to that...
Me and Becky are currently sorting out how to get there - we'll probably fly in on the evening of the 17th, and head home with the Britteners on the 23rd. How easy is it to get from the airport to the place we're staying? Is the journey as fiddly as Sweeden/Greece mittens?
No worries, there is a regular line "Alter airport-Benidorm". Once in Benidorm (40 minutes trip, Lorena does the journey everyday to go to Uni) the campsite will be just one short local bus trip away. I'll post a dossier with all the needed info.
Anyway, as said, 80% of the people arriving from the Brittish Islands will be going to Benidorm, so, you'll just have to follow the mass. You can follow the opposite direction of people with burned red skin, that are brits leaving us and coming back to his sunless island. They're easy to recognise. Red skin, suncream in the nose and stockings with flip-flops.
Hi, I'm a bit confused, you say you don't need to book at the site, so are we officially having it for 16-23 August? It'd be nice to book while prices are kind of low.
QuoteRed skin, suncream in the nose and stockings with flip-flops.
Yahtzee?
If all the details have been hashed out, would somebody mind summarizing all the info (perhaps updating the 1st post in the thread)?
I'm itching to book and want to make sure everything's in order.
Maybe one of the Mittolympics contest should be a baby race, running or crawling (with some gambling involved, too!) :=
I will warn you, me and children dont mix. actually, If spleen is there, i guess we will be banished to the naughty step...

Official dates, yeah. The prices won't rise a lot, the guy told me that maybe 3% as much. We can't book because they don't make reservations, but I'll move the wires to see if we can ensure 100% the booking 2 or 3 months before Mittens.
What airport(s) are recommended? Its about 25% cheaper if I fly into Valencia rather than Alicante. Is that more trouble than its worth?
Well, Alicante is 40 kms. away and Valencia 150. But it's not really a big problem... If you are confident enough to do the trip! I don't know "Manises" (Valencia Airport), nor the bus lines... But I think that a little of googling might do the work.
Here's one bus company, but this page dopesn't work in Opera so dunno if the do Valencia-Benidorm
http://www.alsa.es/VentaParticulares/contenidoHorarios.jsp
Well Google-ing isn't giving me immediate satisfaction due to my inability to read spanish but I'm confident that I can work out some option that is less expensive than the difference in the 2 airfares. I am in.
At the moment, you can't book in such advanced period, but if you had to do the trip TOMORROW, it would cost 28,60â,¬ if you leave at 19:30 (including the come-back ticket) from Valencia's Bus station to Benidorm, or 24,15â,¬ if you leave at 21:00h. The price of the regular bus from the airport to the station? (maybe 20 min. trip)? It can't be more than 6â,¬.

Oh yeah! Book, dates officially approved by... me!
Done and done.
My first Mittens...super excited now.
Can the Uk contingent keep me in the loop with regards to booking flights and what-have-you - I'd rather fly out with a bunch of drunken piss-heads I know.
I can switch on msn, googletalk, even try and get IRC up and working, but let me know when, what and where!

QuoteI'm planning to fly with the British Mittens crew too.
What can I say, we're the people to be seen with!
Just to confirm ... the dates are Wednesday 16th August - Wednesday 23rd August?
Yes, which means first booked night 16th and NO PLACE to SLEEP on wednesday 23, so, you gotta fly that day, or sleep under a bridge. It wouldn't be a problem, it's warm.
Or have another steamy night in the airport! :o
Ok, cool -- it's probably worth us looking into flights relatively soon, before they become hideously expensive.
Also, I've updated the first post in this thread with the details for easy reference.
16-23 August
I shall get them booked off tomorrow, perhaps with a couple of prep / recovery days either side.
I agree about the flights - I'm guessing we're going to be looking at standard - I knew there was a reason I lived so close to Heathrow ::) ::) ::)
I'll do the dossier asap as I come back from Miami (Gloves with la_Lore, Grundy, Farl, Darth and Sara...) Weeeeeeeeeeeeh!
Are there other people from Germany comming?
I ask because we could book the flights together. Just PM or e-mail me.
Well, I've put in to the boss a holiday slip for the time off - 6 months notice should be enough.
EDIT - Just had a quick look on LastMinute.com and the cheapest flight to Alicante seem to be about £150 ex tax. Does this sound about right? Is this the correct airport?
Personally, the cost isn't an issue, but I know for a lot of people it is.
I recommend www.skyscanner.net (http://www.skyscanner.net/gbp/day/lond/alc/060816/060823/cheap-flights.html) for flights, as it will tell you all the budget operators that do a route. However, it seems Iberia have a cheaper offer from London available via Expedia and Opodo at the moment.
Thanks SSH,
Opodo lists the following possibilities:
£100.60 - Heathrow to Alicante, with 1 stop.
£122.60 - Stanstead to Alicante, with 1 stop.
£150.40 - Stanstead to Alicante, with no stops.
If people want to do the Heathrow option, I'm sure we can work out something with regards to crashing at my place. I'll either be still living at home, or in my own flat by then.
Don't book yet!
If I can confirm a group number of UK miteneers I may be able to get a special deal on flights, my cousin now owns a travel agent. This isn't definite but I've already made enquiries :)

Well I turn 28 this year, so I should start to accept that there is a world outside Sunny Staines ;D
It's been two days M0Ds, any news from your 'nudge nudge, wink wink' contact?
I am preppairing the schedule... A visit to the theme park is compulsory. Helm will see that we have the same ruins than he does, but not ruined.
http://www.terramiticapark.com/en/index.htm?EN
This zoo/park is close to the previous... Dunno, it might be stuffing the schedule too much... The first one in falling of the list if necessary... I would go, becase I've never been there and people speaks good of it, but you decide.
http://www.terranatura.com/en/index2.htm
The visit to the water park is compulsory too. Cheap (for both parks I will try to get free or cheap-group tickets) and very close to the Campsite. And every time I went, there have been lovely female brits in bikini.
The page is not working at the moment... Hope it to be fixed when you click in the URL.
http://www.aqualandia.net/
The attached Marine-fauna park is a "maybe". The pro, as commented, is that it is atached to the waterpark and we could get one ticket for both experiences... The cons: Maybe too much for the lazy athmosphere of mittens. It's not in the list, but it might be included if people shows interest. Maybe it should be interesting for the "families" as the zoo above...
http://www.mundomar.es/
So, not much to say in this advance. I'veÃ, travelled recently and guys... you have no excuse! There is a big notice "Bus to Benidorm" as soon as you exit from the arrivals terminals in El Altet Airport. One bus per hour.
M0ds, try to clarify the flights things asap. Please, people, send PMs to me saying "/Sure/Almost sure/very likely/likely/probably not/" to make the list of the mitteneers. I want to have an idea of how can we be. I guess from 20 to 25, but if it goes closer to 30 I might have to put a limit... I want to book asap, people in the campsites tell me there's not going to be a problem, but I want to pay and book asap! I AM PARANOID ABOUT THAT!
Fortunatelly, there is good clima and we could sleep in the open air. Policemen are polite and prisons are clean, so, in a desesperate situation, we can allways start a fight and sleep there...
Holy crap.
Roller coasters and water slides, this might easily become my best vacation ever. We're definately going to those places, no doubt about it. Yes, I'm definately coming.
Oh, and happy birthday, Nacho.
Being a fan of both thrills and wildlife/nature, I am interested in the top two park options, Terra Mitica and Terra Natura. I'm not quite sure the group would want to sqeeze 4 park visits into a week though, that would likely disrupt conversation times and cut into valuable 1kbwc time... I think 2 would be good, not including that attached waterpark. Then again I am merely one of ~20, I will go along with concensus no matter what :P.
Looks great Farlander, I'll most certainly be coming along!
And happy birthday indeed :)
Adam and I are very interested in themepark/waterpark excitement. We shall definitely be coming!
happy birthday, son.
I'll be coming, of course.
I'll be there as well if I can get time off.

Yep, definitely coming - just waiting for the british contingent to decide what we're doing about flights, although knowing me, I've probably missed a memo, and everyone is already booked ::)
Heya Nacho,
You can put Gary and I down for definite, we have already made some reservations. Now if nothing crazy happens to me in the next 10 or so days before I buy my plane ticket, and if Gary isn't abducted by aliens, we ought to be there on the given dates :D.
I'll defenitly come as well. I haven't booked yet, but I will soon.
I feel a bit nervous about meeting a lot of people I don't really know, but hey, it's an adventure. ;D
Sinitrena, asap as you book you'll enter in definitives.
Girl, it's impossible to feel bad at mittens, for one reason. You really got to be really bastard for having bad stories with this pure-hearted guys... And really bastard people does not travel 1000 milles for meeting internet mates!Ã, :) So, don't be nervous.
Again, as I did last year, and even recognising that there won't be a problem, I make a call for all the female AGSers, or male AGSers' couples, to come here and give this mate a little of femenine company.
Not bad expectations this year, though... Lorena and Becky are sure, and I really hope to have Dominika and Sara as well... If Dart, Pesty and Ivy come too, I'll be really happy!
Don't hesitate to PM me asking info, or giving it. The real name, if wanted to be called that way, would be cool...
Before everyone books we should decide if we're going to wait for everyone to arrive (not counting those who come later) before heading off to Benidorm. Last year most of the people arrived in Athens a day early but then again that wasn't such a problem because it was weekend. Now doing that would require one more day off of work for some people. Personally, I wouldn't mind staying in the airport overnight and I think waiting for everyone to arrive would be nice, but what do you think?
Ok I've looked at some flights and the best plan seems to be this:
Wednesday, August 16:
------------------------------
Gothenburg (15.45) - Stockholm (16.40)
Stockholm (20.25) - Alicante (0.15)
Wednesday, August 23:
------------------------------
Alicante (15.40) - Stockholm (19.30)
Stockholm (21:05) - Gothenburg (22:00)
The total cost for this would be roughly 2600:-
If I fly one day earlier, I'd arrive at the same time but I'd have to pay 1200:- and I don't mind missing one day that much.
If Andail or any other Swedes are planning on attending I guess they would be interested in this as well.
Edit: Farlander, could you please have a look if there are any buses or trains leaving from Alicante to Benidorm after 0.00 ?
Andail lives in the UK now, remember.
Yes, but I thought he was only living there for a few months as part of school?
Never thought on the possibility of such a late arrival... I am going to the buss station to pick a leaflet. Thanks for this demmanding of info, I promise everything will be clear months before the arrival.
QuoteI really hope to have Dominika and Sara as well...
Hey, I thought you were after me, not my wife, bastard!!
We're not booking, because there's a small dream of going to Benidorm by car, seeing some Europa on our way... we're not sure if Evil Bosses will allow us so much time in summer (we'd need around 2 weeks including Mittens, I reckon). If not, we'll fly by plane and anally rummage Farlander.
Excellent!
I'm a definite, I couldn't get any cheaper deals than those found. So once I know which flight everyone's getting I'll book it. An indication of some of the other costs we might face would be cool too, just so I know how much to save up for :) I would bring my meggie too, but she's not an AGSer! Anyway Benidormatory will be great I'm sure, I'm looking forward to it! And water parks! And roller coasters! If it's Terra Mitica then I can geek out and enjoy riding to my death on Magnus Collosus...! Will it beat whatever one we went on in Sweden!??! Who knows!
QuoteSinitrena, asap as you book you'll enter in definitives.
All right, now it's really definite. I've booked.

I don't know if Farlander knows this... But Jess and I are down for a good maybe.
Good!
..Maybe.
AGA, scotch and myself are planning to get a flight to Barcelona and then train/bus/hire car it down to Benidorm, since that would work out cheaper than the rather expensive direct flights to Alicante; and perhaps go down a day early or come back a day late, to have some time to explore Barcelona.
Anyone else interested in doing this?
Magintz and I are up for this, we will already be in Barcelona when you arrive, and I personally have nothing against adding an extra day to my trip :D. Count us in.
Yea, Like Disco said, we'll be in Barcelona then, so we are definatly up for travelling partners. A car might be a bit uncomfortable with 5 of us all the way to Alicante. Don't know how long it would take.
Perhaps a van then, which would prove more useful in Benidorm anyways. We expected to pay â,¬47.40 for a single ticket on the Euromed (Barcelona > Alicante) and fly back from Alicante, but if we hire a van from Barcelona and the current five of us chip in the money we would spend on a return train ticket (â,¬379.50), we could have the fun of traveling independently and have a vehicle for Mittens activities. I'm not sure how much that costs in Europe though :-\.
Whoa, hang on.
Spain?? I really wanted to go to Spain this year.
August?? That's the month where I have no work and will be bumming around Japan waiting for my visa to run out.
Can I come? o_o

I am. I'll check the prices of flights to see whether I'll fly to London first or straight to Barcelona from Helsinki. I'll get back to you later.
E D I TIt seems flying straight to Barcelona would be only few tens of euros cheaper than flying straight to Alicante. We'll see what I'm going to do.
Buy an old London bus and make it a "Summer Holiday"!
You are free to do whatever you want people. But it's going to be a long trip from Barcelona to Alicante, with the unconvenience that Alicante is more to the south than Benidorm, so, you'll have to go Barcelona-Valencia by Euromed (dunno if there is Euromed Barcelona to Alicante, probably yes, though...) And then bus to Benidorm.
But, anyway, Barcelona is a must see... If you finally decide to go, make me know to preppair a short dossier about it.
EDIT: Layabout, Creed Malay, Spleen, Mattgoble, Chicky, Radiant, Monkey_05_06 and FruitTree. We are getting really close to the cipher I am going to stop accepting mitteners (If everyone of the members with preference can come, with is still difficult, though...) So, make me know how is your status.
(The preferences in case of being forced to decide between members will be done considering if you have attended mittens, or any other AGS meeting before, and the date of registration, if needed in case of draw)
Well, just to be clear I am about 95% sure I can come to Mittens, so put me down as a definite maybe. As usual I won't know for sure until about June or maybe July, because it's all about getting the time off.

Grund and I are from the US, remember? We generally consider a long drive to anything greater that 8 hours :P It's just four hours to get to Alicante from Barcelona by train. If I were to drive to my brother's house it would take 6 1/2 hours, and we live in the same state ! :D
Seeing the whole stuff with that perspective you are right. I was forgetting how adventurous this mittens trips are. I was just keeping in mind my last trip, with an american-cuban slave being our driver...
Ok. Things are going to be this way. I have the list, it's very close to 30. The list is made with Mittens regulars and some brave mittens newbies who had the guts to book in a great advance of time.
Some other members who haven't really booked but have expressed a serious intention to come, will have ensured a place, by "rank" (Darth Mandarb is a moderator, Eric is moderator, and hosted Mittens 2004 with Jess)
In no particular order...
1.Nacho (Farlander)
2.Lorena (LaLore)
3.Quintaros
4.Chris (Pumaman)
5.Adam (DarkStalkey)
6.Petter (Andail)
7.Becky
8.Telemachus (Helm)
9.Petteri Aartolahti (Petteri)
10.Mattglobe
11.Gary (Magintz)
12.Kenneth (Disco)
13.Mark (m0ds)
14.Inga
15.Chrille
16.Francisco (Grundislav)
17.Blazej (Goldmund)
18.Dominika
19.Berian (AGA)
20.David Scott (scotch)
21.Tom (custard)
21.Eric (MrColossal)
22.Jess
23.Jeremy Page (Darth Mandarb)
24.Sara
25.Kinoko
26? (And future husband?)
I have two more guys who have been regulars, but I haven't been able to contact with them. Anyway, they will have a place till the latest moment.
26. 2ma2.
27. JET XL
27. Layabout
28.Radiant
29.Monkey_05_06
So... the list is closed, If you want to come and don't see your name here, post about it here, and I'll pust you in the list 2. As soon as any of the members on the list 1 fall, you'll promote. Some of the members in the list 1 WON'T ATTEND, I am quite sure, so, don't lose the hope.
If there is finally more than 30 people, we will see what we can do, but it will probably be necessary to set a "ranking" of importance according to if you have came to previous mittens. (For example, it should have more sense to allow Layabout, who knows some of the members by brittens, than an unknown member...)
Sounds horrible, but I think it's fair.
If you see your name in the list above but you do have serious doubts about comming, PM ME, and we will see if it should be fair to move you from list 1.
Be quick, I am going to go to the campsite and try to put money in DAYS.
Thanks!
EDIT: Tom, AKA Custard is out of the list 1.
EDIT 2: Wooter AKA JET XL is out as well...
EDIT 3: Kinoko's future husband is out... from the list, and from the wedding. So, Laya, Radiant, and Monkey_05_06 are in. I still hope Tom AKA custard will come, but there is still gaps in the list.
I was worried this might happen. Until I get a reply from my aunt I'll have no idea how much money I'll be making. And flights from Oregon, USA to Spain are fecking expensive. Just...give me a few days to get a reply. Please?
I know I'm a low-priority n00b, but I'm only turning 18 in 5 days, so I couldn't have gone before.
I think the idea Farlander has proposed is fair, and hope that everyone agrees.
Blimey, Mittens this year looks like it could be huge ... considering the most people we've had in the past was 18, I'm not sure how 30 would work!
I hope you don't mind Farlander, but I edited your post to add people's forum names to your list, just to make sure we're all clear about who the various people are.
Ok, sorry about that CJ.
Monkey... ask anyway. An "Auntie? Might it be possible to...?" won't hurt anybody. And you'll be in the pole position in the list 2.
Anyway... I am not having in mind that there might be 4 more adults and 4 little devils making a paralel trip. This don't count for campsite figures, but yeah, mittens appears to be massive this year.
I'm on list 1 and I probably wont be there
Also, there's nobody at number 6 in your list ;)
EDIT: no custard at mittens? :-\ What am I going to eat with my apple pie?
Well. It's too early for me to say if I can come or not and if it stops someone being on list 1..
I wish to come! and if i can i will try to! and i'll turn up and totally ruin farlanders list and it will be hilarious.
I added probably to my last post to cover myself, i've spoken to farl.
You better come!!!!!
Thats an order!
Bring comfier inflatable beds though!
CJ, you are an asshole... Are you accussing me of not knowing how to count? There is a 6th number in my list...Ã, :P

Argh, yes. People, don't use swimming pool inflatables as beds.
Okay, I'll be booking as soon as I know when some of the other people are arriving. Anyone booked yet? When are you arriving in Alicante? I'll be flying from Helsinki to Alicante after all, less hassle and the prices would be pretty much the same no matter how I travelled. I'm looking into arriving early in the morning of 16th, though if someone is arriving a day early in ALC, I could look into that as well.
So yeah, post here when you know at what time you're arriving ok.
EDIT: I had a brief chat with Pessi and he said he'd like to come but as he can't confirm if he is able to go or not until in May, it looks like a sticky situation. Maybe you could put him into the list of maybies? Maybe I should persuade him into posting here in this very thread by himself?

The floor was more comfortable probably. We just thought at the time it might just work.

Alas, considering I am on the other side of the world, I can not come. howerver if I start walking NOW, (and grow gills) I should be in time for Mittins 2107, so no go guys (and gals) SO SORRY :'( I bet there isn't another AGS'er within 1000 miles of vancouver island. alas so alone, I'll go sulk in the darkness know :(

Oh just a little thing I like to call MONEY. there is no way in a million years I could come up with that kind of cash :(
oh well, I shall dream.
That's understandable. That's the only thing preventing me from giving a definitive answer right now myself.

guh money. I'm already overdrawn. I'm coming regardless I have some money set asside. Although ideally I'd like a job so i don't have to delve into my savings.
Well, uh, considering I broke off my engagement last week, don't reserve a place my my future husband :) (even if I hadn't, I'd still be coming alone. This is really just a very-far-out-of-the-way stoppover on my way back to Australia from Japan)

2ma2 is a big doubt, but I think Tom AKA Custard will enter at the end... Anyway, if there is a "heavy weight member" who wants to enter (Dave Gilbert, Custard...) I really doubt it would be a problem to put one more tent. Even if the campsite is totally crowded, Lorena and me could allways sleep at home.
But be quick entering your name.
The flights I were looking at are already fully booked. Farlander, please try and find some information regarding in what ways we can get from the camping site to Alicante airport and at what times. There are some other flights that look okay, but they all leave from Alicante very early in the morning.

Call me Pieter :)
Regarding travel arrangements... are there any other Dutchies on the list?
Odd, I don't appear to be on that list..
I was at one of the offices of the Bus company last week, and the info they game me was uncomplete, so I didn't posted because I assumed that there are several companies making the trip.
So I asked Lorena to ask any of the bus drivers taking her to uni to ask (They are "Subús", they make the trip too)... and she failed me.Ã, >:(
Anyway, the page of El Altet airport is quite crappy... the info should (if the page was good) be there... Anyway, even in a desesperate case, the taxi trip is about 65 euros.
The latest "rumour" is that the earliest bus is about 8 am... But I need to confirm it. Await for updates, I will look for the info this evening, after my french classes.
Anyway, if Blazej comes here with the car, and he wants to help, problem solved.
Goldmund? Are you ready to go Alicante a couple of times?
I hope to have my driving licenseeeee!!!
EDIT: I remember why I did not post the info... a "It's too early to determine the schedules in such advance" message appears to me at most of the bus company pages... Will try anything to get the info...
The services from the Airport TODAY is: The earlier 10:30 and the latest 21:30. I guess they will add more services in August, but if the info works for you...
I'll probably remain a "maybe" for some time. My summer is still a big question mark. I would hate to miss a mittens, of course.
I'll keep you updated.
hey, can we have mittins in canada sometime. why? well the dollar here is cheaper then the euro AND the US dollar. you had it in the us of a once and well, just wondering.
(ps even if you do its no guarantee I can make it, canadas a BIG place)
Farl, I know you said there's no need to book, but will the campsite be able to take a group of 30 people without warning? ;)
Also, who's likely to be flying to Barcelona and then taking a leisurely trip down to Benidorm? If anyone else is interested in doing this it'd be handy to know so that we can work out whether getting a hire car/van would be good value for money or not. At my last count we seemed to have: me, scotch, AGA, Disco, Magintz, Layabout.
m0ds, what are your plans?
Quotehey, can we have mittins in canada sometime. why? well the dollar here is cheaper then the euro AND the US dollar. you had it in the us of a once and well, just wondering.
You know, you're in danger of starting to sound needy :P
I am extra paranoid about the possibility of arriving the 16th to the campsite and find the gates closed, Chris...
So, knowing as I know that the cipher will be 30, I will go this week and force them to accept my money as a signal for the booking.
On the other hand, I am very happy about the possibility of hiring a van, so we could bring mitteneers from the airport, by turns, it shouldn't be a big deal if all the guys with license share the job.
And remember: HERE WE DRIVE FOR THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD.
Uhh, I'm battling with my flight plan. I found a lowfare airline (the cheapest option I've found so far) that would get me to Barcelona, but they fly only on Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday. So I would get to Barcelona on Tuesday the 15th, which would be good timing, but I would have wait until Saturday the 26th to get back home. So, unless you Brits would be up for staying in Spain until 26th (I'm not planning to stay there alone) I'm just going to fly to Alicante and that's it.
And so raises the same question again. Any idea when you people are arriving in Alicante?

That sounds like a great plan! ;D Room for one more?
Have you guys booked flights yet?
If I can make it I would probably be flying to Barcelona as well...?
I don't know yet that international flights fly from Japan to Alicante, but I haven't looked properly yet... just throwing it out there that I too may be going to Barcelona.
there will be teh ags van. It will just be like the Mystery Machine from scooby doo, except there will be a bunch of beer swilling agsers inside as opposed to pot smoking hippies. And there will be a blue insulation tape bluecup design on the side to force our evil views on the world...
In response to kinoko about the beer and women talk, you are more than welcome to discuss that with me, I have not been paying much attention to the forums as of late. Beer and women it is! The more the merrier!!!
I have booked. It'll be a rough 10-hour flight with 3 stops back and forth, the price was alright (370 euro approx.). I will arrive in Alicante at 17.20 on the 16th and leave at 12.30 on the 23rd.
About the van. I take control of the tape/cd deck for the first few hours or so!
Adam and I have booked. We arrive in Alicante at 19:15 on the 17th (yes, a day late), and fly back home again on the 23rd at 19:30.
scotch, AGA and myself have booked for Barcelona -- for anyone else interested, we will get these EasyJet flights:
Tres interesting! Well Barcelona sounds cool, [if it means getting a van then that's cool but how much is that going to cost extra? You've booked your flights now, though I was looking at direct ones to Alicante with BA, for about £180. How much were yours, CJ?
About £87 at the moment, easyjet told us £64, what liars they are! But still, not too bad.
I have bookeded too now, so I guess I'm really officially in. I'll be arriving in Alicante at 13:25 on 16th and I'll be leaving Alicante behind ( :( ) at 14:50 on 23rd. The flight back to Finland has two stops and I'm back in Helsinki the next day! Talk about madness, I'll be dead when I get back home.
See you all there! Is anyone else arriving around that time? We could catch up and travel to Benidorm together!
The flight I'm looking at gets to Alicante around noon, so we'll meet up, Petteri!
Of course, I'm still a couple of months away from booking, but you can bet I'll be there!

Well, teh MITTENS VAN!!11 looks like it would cost about 40 GBP per person, this seems to be slightly cheaper than a return train or bus ticket. Of course once you add petrol onto that it probably comes to about the same.
However, the important question as to whether it would be viable or not is how many people want to do it. You can only get 7 and 9-seater vans, and there seem to have been quite a few people saying they "might" fly to Barcelona. Therefore, it'd be good to know how many people have actually / are actually going to book flights to Barcelona, and hence how many people will actually be going to Benidorm with us.
Count me in the van please, I've got a single from Barcelona to Luton:
I am hearing more people going direct to Alicante anyways. Petteri, Grundislav (will), Becky and Adam are skipping out on Barcelona.
So teh van stands at 6 people so far, excluding me. I'm still un-decided, but if I were to use it that would be 7... I'm not too fussed, it would be a coool road trip! 90ish for flight plus 50/60 ish for van and petrol is going to be just under a direct flight to Alicante. How are people getting from Alicante to the campsite?
Bus, 40 minutes, couple of euros.
For the Barcelona crew, it'd be £39 exactly if the 7 of us get a car, I think it's not a bad idea... we'd have an easy way to go shopping in the week, or whatever. On the other hand, I think it's a bit more than getting the train... but factoring in local transport as well as the train, perhaps there's no difference.
For everyone to know, these are my flight details:
Airline: Air Berlin
Wednesday, 16 Aug:
Frankfurt/ Main (FRA) 4.15 am - Alicante (ALC) 6.45 am
Wednesday, 23 Aug:
Alicante (ALC) 14.00 - Frankfurt /Main (FRA) 16.35
I'm certainly in on the barcelona run - will book flights tomorrow.
Luton Airport eh?
::)
"Nah, Luton Airport..".
..And put me down for the Big Blue Cup Bus. I'll book when I can afford it.
Ah sheet, so that now makes 9 people in the blue van excluding me. And I was just about to say I'd go for it! Grrr! :P
It makes 9 people including you, as far as I can see.
Ahh, cool. Then I'll book the ticket in the next few days.
Also, from what I can see the driving age is 18, so I should be able to lend a hand with driving if need be. Not that I don't trust Chris! ;) But then I don't really know what the laws and restrictions of the hire company are. I probably have to be 34 or something.
Car hire companies ususally prefer their drivers to be over 25. Younger ones can drive of course, but they usually add 250 quid or so for the priviledge.
Yeah, the problem with car hire is that if you're under 25 they add a huge extra charge that can almost double the cost of the booking. It would be handy to have someone else to share the driving with though if we go down that route; Matt/Spleen, do either of you have a license?
As far as I'm aware neither of them drive...d'you really think they'd issue Spleen a license? :P
Well, officially I do have a license, although I haven't driven since 1998 and it took be a good few attempts to pass!
I'm not sure if I'm confident enough to drive a vehicle with you lot in it - navigation is more my cup of tea...
I've dropped CJ a message with regards to the flights you guys have booked - it's easier for me to come via heathrow / gatwick and there are some Iberia flights on Lastminute which are pretty close to your flight times.
Well I'm definatly in for the ags van thing as I'm going to be i barcelona with Dsico, so don't count me out. I need to buy my ticket (the same as disco has done) but have to wait till I have the money in my account, which will be in the next few days. Disco, how much was the single?
Aw, I was hoping to help out with the driving, but I'll only be a mere 24.16 years old by that time :( I'll have to battle Matt for the position of navigator, or maybe I can just be on tactical duty :-\.
Magintz, it was â,¬74.99 before fees. They charged me â,¬7.50 booking fee because I paid with a Mastercard credit card, but if you have a Visa debit card they only charge â,¬1.50.
Do I have a License? I failed my test twice, nearly killed a family in a BMW, put my head under the dash to try and figure out how to off the wipers whilst driving done a main road and then tried to knock my head teacher off the road after he cut me up. After that, I gave up on the idea of driving.
Besides, I'm never sober enough to drive.

What happens the night you arrive? It will be almost 11pm before we leave the airport. Do you guys plan on staying the night in Barcelona? or are we hiring the van and going to Benidorm in the wee hours? Magintz and I are booked at Centric Hostel, with check out currently the morning of the 16th, which can be ammended if necessary.
Our plan is to sleep in the airport, then check out Barcelona on the morning of the 16th and have a look around. Then, at some point in the early afternoon I guess, we'll head on to Benidorm.
If you guys are hotelling it overnight, I'm sure we can meet up with you in the morning.
The Centric hostel does a four bedroom room for £23 / person if CJ, AGA & Scotch want to crash somewhere other than an airport on the 15th?
I'm certain that they would shun proper lodging for a free stay on the airport floor. Magintz and I are looking at changing our reservation to check out a day early and greet them at the airport. I just hope I can get over my fear of sleeping at an airport, don't be surprised if I wake up screaming ;).

Well this is it, it's one thing to sleep at the airport cos your flights delayed and whatnot, but do they normally frown on people sleeping at the airport cos they don't want to spend the cash on a room? That's called being homeless isnt it??
Plus, sleeping rough the first night of the trip doesn't put us in great shakes for the rest of the week does it?

If it weren't for the experience of 3 airport nights at Mittens 2005, I'd agree with you. But actually, it was kinda cool, if somewhat uncomfortable ;)
Plus, we wouldn't be the first: http://www.sleepinginairports.net/europe/barcelonaprat.htm
Yeah, sleeping in airports is fine, certainly wouldn't pay £23 and travel to some hotel to avoid one night. I expect they might say something if they noticed you there for multiple days, but for one, they can't tell if you're waiting for a flight or not. At night half the people around you are asleep too.
Apparently they don't have arm rests on their seats, perfect.
For the record, the trip to Benidorm is easy. 4 hours and a half ,maybe... (Dad did it in 3 hours, but with the beastial old Ford Sierra Cosworth, with no stops... and he was crazy)

Ooooo, a flight booking.
How exciting!
I have sufficiently money to go to mittens. I start the money of my parents. But I am only 14 I mine dad come with me? He is 42.
Rolf, speak to farlander, but i doubt it, as you are a new member, you are very young, and it is pretty much no more room for you as tehre are already more people who want to go than allowed.
Layabout is not the host... But he spoke well. Go to the mittens page and look the rules. This rules include an age limit and a call of not bringing parents, if possible.
Anyway... Shouldn't you be 16 to post here?
This makes me sad very. Dad makes us very sad also loking onward mine to go to spain. Perhaps it will go in the holiday in any way.
Damn, this is tempting... Hard for me to decide right now though.
*bump*
I suppose I should be booking my plane ticket for Mittens about now... everybody should be arriving on august 16th at Benidorm airport, is that correct? And are there any other dutchies in attendance, or people traveling from Schiphol? Any important details that are buried deeply within 15 pages of topic? :)
Just to say, I think that I won't be able to make it (such as I would have been attending). However, I'll be turfing some more of my garden soon, so if you want to camp on my new lawn next year... ;D
Time flies, and mittens is only 3 months away now!
Those of us flying to Barcelona, are we happy to go with teh MITTENS VAN!!11 plan? If so we should probably book it fairly soon, because getting hold of 9-seater vehicles can be difficult.
Just dropping in to say, still alive, still have my flight booked and still good for the Mittens Van!!
Have been given a Spanish guide book for my birthday so we should be ok :-\ ;D
Will try and keep an eye on things here, but in the middle of buying a house at present, and I still need to work out the AGS Annual.
Laters!
:)
I think the mittens van is the best bet. We need to make sure that all the barcelona crew are definitely coming, so we don't waste money on a 9 seater if only 7 show up. Ã, The two that haven't booked are Spleen and Layabout... are you guys certain you're going to?
As for cost, easycar's 9 seater cost would be £376.32. The routefinder route I got tells you to "Leave the V-31 and join the V-31." at one point, I imagine this is where you drive off road and around the toll, but assuming we pay instead, that's about £27.26 according to Farl. A huge car like that is going to get like 20mpg, and it's 303 miles, so we're probably going to need £50 worth of fuel, so in total: £50.30 each... this is similar to what return trains and busses would cost, and we get the use of the car all week, so I still think it's a good idea.
Yay, sounds good to me. I was really hoping the AGS van idea would come to life. Also, because I feel the need to surpass everyone who has posted images of their itineraries...

Question please - how do I go from Alicante to Benidorm? And back? Is there public transport early in the morning, for instance (easiest flight back leaves at 7am)? Or should I be getting from Barcelona to Benidorm and back?
Radiant: There are buses. If your flight leaves at 7am, however, you're probably going to have to do like me and leave the night before/sleep at the airport, because I don't think the buses run 24 hours.
So since the thread's been dug up I guess I should say that I've booked my flight, arriving in Alicante at 4:00pm on August 16th.
I am too lazy to post an itinerary.

Errr dude, what about me?
I haven't booked yet but I'm taking the van option.
Also - forget busses - I heard trains are a better option... If space & farlander allow it, Meg will come too - she will be travelling by train from Malaga to Benidorm.

Attention everyone arriving in Alicante airport on the 16th! Grundislav and I are going to meet up at the airport before catching the bus to Benidorm, anyone else want to join us? We're planning to wait for Chrille to arrive so hopefully we'll be able to set off to Benidorm around 5:30 - 6:00 PM. I'm arriving in Alicante around 1:30 PM and Grundislav a couple of hours after me, so those of you who will arrive early in the morning, you can either wait for us or go to Benidorm on your own.
Farlander, how big is the Alicante airport? Will it be easy for us to find each other (are there several terminals/halls of arrivals), and are there lots of shops and pubs to keep us entertained while waiting for the others?

Radiant- is your flight leaving the morning of the 23rd or 24th? The Barcelona crew will be leaving out probably about 3-4pm on the 23rd, so the AGS van would be available to cart people around that morning.
Thought you'd bought your flights, m0ds, for some reason, but you're in the 9, and I'm pretty sure you'll be there :)
Train would be our other option, yes, there's a line from Barcelona to Alicante. By busses I meant local ones from and to the train stations.

The morning of the 23rd. In fact, real early morning (plane leaves at half past six, so I'd probably have to be there half past five). I would really appreciate a ride if that's possible so early; it'd be tricky to find another flight since most airlines don't actually fly from Amsterdam to Alicante, or have similarly inconvenient times of arrival or departure.
You should be able to get a ride then. I'm sure someone (not me because I can't drive the rental! :P) would be willing to take you to the airport, but if what I hear is correct then that might not be necessary...
Farlander- I just spoke to a friend (who by coincidence studied in Benidorm for a semester last fall) and she told me that a tram between Benidorm and Alicante was completed sometime during her stay there. Is there any truth to this? It would certaintly solve a lot of troubles if it is for real.
Also, in-case anyone has any interest Disco and I just booked our tickets to barcelona :)

So I am a definite.
I'll traditionally wait for the last second.
Okay, scratch that, as I waited for a day to verify free time with my boss, the plane tickets available got all scrambled. That's cheap airflights for you :)
So instead, I'll be arriving at 16:45 on the 16th (and Petteri / Grundislav / Grille, I'd love to travel along with you folks) and I'll be leaving at the much more convenient hour of 17:25 on the 23rd (which, incidentally, is my birthday, so this gives me some more time to hand out cake to everybody else).

No, I'm still arriving 16th. And still in Alicante.
It pains me to finally have to say this, but it looks like I can't come. They changed the way flights home are worked out this year (after decades, they changed it THIS year) so I -have- to go back to Australia, instead of cashing that ticket in and flying to Spain instead. Sorry to dick everyone around, but hooray for the person who now gets my place :/
*sad with many tears. Puppy tears*
or you could buy a ticket to spain and meet all the wonderful ags people...
Maybe if I lived in money land, but I'm gonna have to pay for setting myself up in a new apartment in Japan on top of the flight BACK to Japan after I finish tying up things in Aust, and a gazillion other expenses. I'm afraid it will have to wait, but I put this decision off for a LONG time because I was looking forward to this so much. Perhaps if someone can promise I'll get some action with a really, REALLY hot Spaniard, I might consider the extra expense, though he would have to be damn hot, and a sure thing.
Oh that's simple, you can just take the plane to money land, and then you'll have enough cash to make it to Spain and back.
I'll put out, i may not be spanish, but i'm up for some kinky tent shaking action... Perhaps we could find a hot spanish bisexual girl and have a right old laugh...
I was a spaniard about 4 generations ago...and I speak spanish...

Looking back at Scotch's quote - what kind of luggage space will 'The Van' have? I'm assuming at least some of us will be lugging some kind of tent technology with us - how do bags fit in to Van capacity?
Ha! Well, taking Greece as a basis, we'd need another 9 seater just for luggage.
Well, we did manage to fit 8 of us plus luggage into TEH MITTENS VAN 2004, so I'm sure we'll manage. And if not, someone can just sit on the roof.
Personally I'd rather rent or buy a tent there, and I can keep the rest down in size... I think we can manage.

Well some of us carry a little more weight then you do Scotch, although I keep telling myself it's puppy fat ;D
I think the AGS Annual might be supplied in plastic wallets this year!
Allow me to remind that happens year after year... You bring two trunks, 4 shoes, 4 shirts and 80 t-shirts, flip-flops... And you finally pass the week with a bermuda, a cotton t-shirt, and the flip-flops.
The advice... keep the luggage light!
Ok, well after extensive investigation, involving several detectives from all over Europe, I have come to the conclusion that none of the car rental agencies in Barcelona actually have any 9-seater cars available.
Therefore, considering that there are too many of us to fit into anything smaller, I guess we'll have to reconsider the bus and train options, unless anyone has any bright ideas.
Well, there's always walking...
That's a shame.
Doing a bit of googling I came across this page, don't know if it is of use:
http://www.spanish-rail.co.uk/trains/long.html#Euromed
It appears this Euromed service goes from Barcelona to Alicante via the cost (Which is the same as the road route), and takes about 4h40m.
http://horarios.renfe.es/hir/ingles.html
Doing a search on this site seems to suggest a good number of trains on the 16th August, for about 48 Euros.
Sorry I'm not able to offer my driving / age skills to the table to get us out of this situation, but I haven't driven a car since 1998 and I'd rather not kill you all...
There was a time where Magintz and I were planning to take the Euromed to Alicante, (before we knew there would be an additional AGS unit in Barcelona) and this seemed to top the other options. Remember we will require a return ticket, so we will need nearly â,¬76 each apparently.
This is a real pity, as I was looking forward to the nine of us travelling independently in an unfamiliar country. If I we were taking a night in Ibiza like I suggested we could just take a ferry from Barcelona and onward to Alicante. Man, I love being right ! :P However, I DO admit that there are other ways..

Yeah, I was just quoting the price based on the ticket for the 16th August - 76 Euros return works out at £52 at current exchange rates. Expensive, and means it will probably cost more than it would if we flew 'direct' to Alicante, but hey! it's all part of the adventure right?
How to buses compare pricewise?
I'm not earning as much as I'd like this year, I'm already in some financial difficulty so I don't think Spain will be a possiblity for me now. If I can pull the money together then I'll probably have to organise it all at the last minute, so don't count on me - and consider my van space as luggage, or extra person space! Either way, if I do go I don't know if I'll book to Barcelona or direct to Alicante - but for Barcelona's sake - trains sound like a good option. I wouldn't want to be on a hot spannish bus, possibly sitting on the floor, for just under five hours - myself. :p
What? Dude, no way! You're not pulling out now, m0ds! We need you! You must come!
Hehehehe awww thanks! Bah! :( If I had money I would come :P It may be possible if I can beg my parents to pay for my ticket. A 35 quid routine car inspection just cost 250 quid, which didn't help. Still, watch this space, Pete!
Mittens wouldn't be Mittens without you, m0ds! If all else fails you can always cling to the undercarriage of the plane and get the flight for free. Don't let go, mind!
Aw, wish I could go, sounds cool. But on my student funds (zippo at the mo), it's not very likely, traipsing all the way over from Ireland :(
Ah well, at least I know what all that 'Mittens' stuff actually means now ;D

On the positive side, if you fell off, at least CJ could get a new picture for his avatar. ;D
And on an even lighter note, I'll probably be able to come in 4 years time... so make sure attendance stays up, kay? Although considering I'm probably the most annoying person on the planet, I'd probably drive you all crazy in 5 and a half minutes. It'd lessen the need for a return ticket though... ;)

This might be the first mittens I miss out, in which case I demand that it will be called "pseudo-mittens" and that the only activity will be whipping your own backs with chains.
Seriously, I'd love to come but I have a domestic situation here, sort of.
i can be andail for a week...
Yay, a stand-in :)
A Mittens without Andail is like...pizza without anchovies! Well, maybe if you're DarkStalkey...
Hope you can somehow make it, but if not you'll definitely be there in spirit like you were at Gloves 2003.
Aw, Andail ... I hope your situation sorts itself out before Mittens. There's still 2 months to go, and it wouldn't do to be without one of the Founding Fathers :P

Okay Barcelona buds, I am leaving for my suumer holiday 26 days from now, and would like for us to decide on and pay for transportation before that time elapses if possible. If the train is the mode of choice, I suppose we ought to elect one maybe two people to collect money and pay for our tickets, so we are not all scattered for the 4 hours or so. Are we certain a van isn't available? I did manage to find one for 9 passengers, but it was £900 for the week :( couldn't link to it either, one of those Java thingies.
Did you try:
http://www.eventoplus.com/detalle.php?p_id=860&CHANGELANGUAGE=1
If anyone can find a 9-seater for hire in Barcelona then that's great, otherwise do we need to book the public transport in advance or can we just wing it on the day?
I am very sad about that Petter, but I've been reading some of your latest posts and I totally understand your position. I just can say that if a no show in mittens is a passport for a happy ending in your domestic situation, I would sign for that. About the Euromed... First class is allways crowded, and in August, whereas tourist class would have free seats, the sooner you book, the better. I have a thought exam this month, on 28th, as soon as I finish it I will post info.
Anyway, you just gotta click "Euromed" on google... Hope this helps.
https://w1.renfe.es/vbi/indexu.html
We will only need a 7-seater if spleen doesnt get his arse into gear and book already...

Darth Mandarb

EDIT: I've redone the list putting Helm, Blazed and Manolo as "surelly arriving on 16th". Eric gave a good percentage of chance of comming, but I think there was the possibility of getting a job in this dates... Similar situation with Darth Mandarb. So, guys, try to ask your chiefs asap. Custard is out of the list. Pitty.Ã, :-\
Spleen?
Ah! I decided to remove a "T" of Mitens, in homage to PeTter, AKA Andail.
I think Goldmund means WiFi hotspot.
If there is not, I can lend a laptop, he can write his no sense articles, and when it's done, send it to Polandia from my home.
Unfortunately, I AM DEFINITE!!!1
Awesome :) Because I have been a "good boy" in college and my parents were so impressed with me winning 3 awards last night, they have bought the ticket for me. All I have to concentrate on is spending money :)
I'm doing the Luton - Barcelona thing, too.
YAY!
Dude, glad to hear about that! See you there!
Great stuff m0ds, what awards did you win?
So, the only person in the Barcelona posse remaining to book is Spleen -- are you still coming? :)
I won 3 very nice Oscar looking statues for some of my college video productions! best factual programming, best advert & best male 2006 - phat! :p
I have a question - I wonder if anyone has completely figured out the costs this holiday will incur? These costs being specifically:
The cost of the train, Barcelona to Benidorm & back
The cost of camping, including the rental of a tent
Also what aers our Barcelona plans? Will we go back a day early to explore Barcelona like Greece or anything? Because we arrive quite late at night, right? I'm all up for drinking that night away, though! :p
Yaaay! Im excited :)
http://www.campingraco.com/WEB%20PRECIOS%20CAMPING%202004.htm
Price of the campsite... Per day, taxes included, quite explanative...
Euromed Barcelona-Alicante, 35-55â,¬, plus 4 aprox. for the bus from Alicante to Benidorm.
People with TENT. Please, post it here, with the capacity, and if you have any special request, even the groups you formed in other mittens if all your buddies attend this year again (Special requests: I'd like to go alone, I'd like NOT to share tent with M0ds, I'd like to go with a female, etc...)
I need to know how to distribute the tents in the parcels. :)
Adam and I do not find the site self-explanatory! Are we charged by person, by tent, or by tent and person? o_O
Adam has one tent, two person capacity, and I am sharing it with him.
There is a tent icon, so, the price beside means: Price by tent by day. And there is a little person icon, which means: Price per person by day.
So, let's imagine. The price per tent is 5, and per person is 5, as well.
If you have a "sigle" tent, you pay 5+5 per day.
If you have a tent with 2 people cappacity, and you bring your boyfriend, you pay: 5 per person, and 5 for the tent. But you are TWO people to pay the tent, so, the price for you it's going to be 2.5.
If you are 10 people in a tent, you'll pay 6 euros per day :)
ERGO, the more people per tent, the better. :)
Okay. And what would be the cost to get a cute Spanish girl in the tent?
:D
I only have a sleeping bag.Ã, So that means if any generous soul will take me into their tent, I'd appreciate it!
I don't take up much space, I don't snore or fart or anything, I'm an ideal tent-mate!
I have a shite tent that I do not want to bring. I'll most likely buy or rent one down there. If I get a big enough one I could share it with you, Grundislav. Or rather I would have if you'd been the farting kind!!!
I don't snore either. At least, I've never been told I do.
Markypoo: Great to hear you'll be at this years mittens after all! I promise I'll be more careful what I take photos of this year for my own sake ;)
My tent is a 1-man. I am not sharing it with anyone non-female!
Who's that leggy man with the mousey hair, sleeping with nothing but a duffel bag to lay his head on? why it's Disco of course :D. He needs....I mean I need a place to sleep during Mittens V. I don't need much as you can tell by the photo, just a porch if necessary. If anyone wants to save money by sardining, I'm with you :P.
Ok... At least 100 parcels will be free for that time, so, I told the guy "If you are so sure there will be place, why don't you book in this special case for this people coming, some of them, from other continents?" and he agreed. Parcels confirmed and booked.
NO TENTS FOR HIRE, but I'll see if I can get a couple or three with 4 places each...
HERE I'LL PUT THE TENTS AND THE ASSIGNEMENT:
In a tent of 2:
Farlander and Lorena
Adam and Becky
Goldmund and Blazej.
Sinitrena and Disco
CJ and Helm
Chrille and Grundislav
M0ds, Magintz (Gary) and Petteri if comes.

I have bad news as for the "possible coming". The posibles are divided into the ones that want to come, in the early mittens call, but secretelly think they won't be able to(*), and the ones that really want and really try to come. I am sure Darth Mandarb is in this second case, and he is attempting to get holidays in summer... But as he's the latest one who joined the enterprise, seems unlikely that his boss is going to give him the ultra-demmanded-summer holidays. So, he is in the "not very likely to come" group.
I still need info about Spleen, Finkerstein and Mr. C...
(*) No offence for the AGSers who staled their intention to come at the early mittens call, undestand me please...Ã, Ã, :)

Oh, come on! I am open to exchange girlfriends, and I am sure Adam and Goldmund too, but girls have this weird things, they don't share their man... What can I do?!? ;D
Nacho, I think Chrille is speaking about Goldmund's love-hate affair with Blazej.
Wait a moment, who is writing this?!

I'll bring a two-man tent and I'm willing to share it with anybody (It doesn't matter for me if this person is male or female, I don't take things like that too serious)
I have news... I am not very open to share this, because I want you to look for GOOD, BIG tents...Ã, ;)
But I have in my own a box with 10 propaganda-shitty-one-man tents. The pro is that, hey, this is Benidorm, and mittens will be in August... We will probably even sleep outdoors, no matter if the tent is shitty, this is not Himalaya...
The problem... As much people you put per tent, the better... Also, we'll have to pay per parcels (I think 18 euros per day, not a big deal since we'll be able to put a lot in people in each parcel), so, bigger tents=less wires=more people per parcel=less parcels to hire=less euros to pay. So, please, people, go on asking to your relatives for big tents... if you want to pay less.Ã, :)
EDIT: For the people coming in Euromed... Quintaros, you'll probably be able to get a bus Valencia-Benidorm... Can you tell us more about your intentions? Bus? Train?

Excellent, good work Farlander :)
I still have my 2-man tent from last year, and assuming it hasn't been eaten by moths I could probably dig it out and bring it with me.
Quote from: Farlander on Tue 04/07/2006 17:33:55Quintaros, you'll probably be able to get a bus Valencia-Benidorm... Can you tell us more about your intentions? Bus? Train?
I'm flying into Alicante rather than Valencia.Ã, Bus? Train?Ã, Haven't actually worked it out yet.Ã, Ã, Maybe it's time to get on that.
Edit: Yeah it looks like I'll be taking a couple of buses. Since I'm arriving a day earlier than everyone else, I'll spend the 15th in Alicante and take a bus to Benidorm on the morning of the 16th.
I'll be bringing a 2-person tent and am also willing to share with anyone.
Why not have a contest? CJ, Sinitrena, and Quiontaros....first of you to reply wins my company in their tent! Hurry! :D
Ok Quintaros, I thought you were coming to Valencia... Alicante seems to be a "easier" option. :)
We'll see which options do we have, Alicante is pretty too, with the castle of Benacantil, and the cathedral... I'll probably make a downloadable guide, since I had studied tourism ^_^.
About "where to put Disco"... I am thinking in putting you in Sinitrena's tent, since Disco is the most kind and innofensive person I can think... I don't want to scare our german friend. :)
Any complains?
I've made a new map of Alicante.

Highlighted 3 commercial centers (like Harrod's...)
1: Clothes, drugstore.
2: Home, music, DVDs, books, informatic and a cafeteria.
3: Music, DVDs, video games...
Burger King (pink)
Chinese restaurant (green)
;) Lorena :-*
Not to diss them, but "El Corte Ingles" is more like John Lewis than Harrods....
I have a tent that could quite easily hold 3 people, however, I don't want to take it with me unless I really really REALLY have to, because lugging it around is a pain in the ass. And seeing that I want to travel as lightly as possible I cannot fit it into my bag.
So if you don't mind, I'll crash into some of you's tent. I'll promise to behave.

Shut up! I almost had convinced this guys! >:(
Petteri, I understand you, but a 3 man tent would be very handy... ;) Anyway, I'll go assigning people, so, we can wait till the last minute and see if you can go into another person's tent.
I agree with Petteri, I also want to travel light. That's why I'd rather rent or buy a tent down there.
Rent, impossible. Buy... sure. But, what would you do with the tent once mittens is over? Bring it back to Skandinavia? Ok... then the weight is not an excuse. Also, summing this tent with the one you have in your country if you take it back to your home is... weird.
Or would you leave it here, in Spain? With that you'd show that money is not a problem... Well, if that is not a problem, I have a sollution. I have single tents... lots of them, 10 or 15. If everybody agrees, tell to me and I'll get them. But one thing: The price per tent will be 7 bucks, so, if you put 3 people per tent the price will be 2.3. If you are alone, it will be 7. Multiply that extra 4.7 you'd have to pay per 6 days and you'll have the amount of money you'd save by bringing the big tent... It's 28 â,¬. It's up to you, I am not arguing, understand me, please... Just offering info. Some people will choose to bring, and will people won't.
:)
Well I don't have a big tent, it would fit two people and some luggage. Three people would make it comparable to a can of sardines.
You say single tents but think groups of three should share them? I'm a bit confused :P. I wouldn't mind paying 28â,¬ for a tent for the week.
He is saying that it would be better to bring a tent if you have it, and he can't understand why you would want to pay 2-3x extra just so you won't have to take a tent from Sweden and back (which if you buy own in Benidorm, you will have to take it back with you anyways, so you're paying more money just to save tent-carrying energy one way). If everyone had their own tent, we would spend much more money, having less for going out, entertainment, food, and souvenirs just because it's a pain to carry a big tent.
If one person slept in a tent by themselves it would cost â,¬42 by the end, but if you slept in a 3 person tent like Petteri's you would only spend â,¬14.
Yes, Disco caught it... :) What I am basically saying is: If you want to pay that extra money for having light luggage, I can provide a tent, so, no need to buy or rent.
As said before, I am not trying to convince you to bring the tent, just giving the info. :)
Hooray, lightning broke my internet. I'm typing this at my friend's.
I've got an interesting situation. I got results from the entrance exams I attended earlier this summer. It was good news, as I'll be starting my studies on the 14th of August, two days before Mittens. I have to investigate if there's anything super important in the school in the beginning, or if it's actually possible to cancel my tickets anymore.
So in short, there's a possibility that I might not be able to attend Mittens this year after all. We'll see what happens.
Petteri! :(
There's no possible refund, and classes in August suck, so... COME!
I just sent a couple of emails asking what would I miss if I went to Mittens, and if I can get my money back in case I can not go. The thing is that the person from the polytechnics I sent the email to is on vacation until 7th of August.
What a crappy situation! I had no idea when my studies would start until yesterday, and all of my friends go back to uni in September! Crap I say!
Surely they'd accept the fact that you had already booked a holiday before they were able to tell you your course dates, so it's not your fault if you miss them?
And about getting a plane ticket refund........well, good luck with that!!! Didn't know such things existed!!
Umm.... Can anyone put me up in their tent?
You and I can go halves on a tent if you want, Magintz. I think I'll have enough money to at least buy half of one :) And apparently buying one will be cheaper than renting one.
Edit - in fact, I might be willing to bring my 3 man, I'll have to see how bulky it will be to take, but it should be fine.
Update: It's not possible to get my money back, so I'll do my best to come to Mittens. If I come I won't be bringing a tent with me, because by the time Mittens happens I should be living in my own apartment and I'm not going to take my tent there when moving in. Also, I want spend as less money as possible (because I'm to become a "poor" student), so if someone's got a three man tent to share, I'm willing to sleep there with two other people.
I'll try to keep you updated. If there's lots of super important stuff happening in the school during the first week, I'm not coming and that's ~300â,¬ down the drain.
Thats not good! :( They'll probably have loads of fun interactive things lined up for you in the early weeks! Either way - if you can come and I bring my 3 man tent there will be room for you I'm sure :) unless you particularly want to share with Chris "quest" Jones! Though I don't want you to miss the school's awesomeness, I do hope you don't lose out on your flight purchase & the fun at the end of it!
That's unheard of, to have the school term starting in August! Go and give them a slap for doing that to you.
Hope you do make it to mittens, and that it doesn't mean missing anything important.
Hey dudes and dudettes, good news! I just got a reply from the school, saying that it's quite okay to be unpresent in the beginning, as long as I actively learn how all the stuff in school works, by myself afterwards. So I'll be in Spain unless something extraordinarysuperweirdohmygod happens.
/me dances a bit.
Weeeh! I want to be the first to express my joy of these news!!!Ã, ;D I wanted to annoy someone criticising Lordi!Ã, :D

I have news. I have 11 one-man tents. They are propaganda ones, weak and crappy, but will work for the hot summer spanish nights. If you have followed this thread, you'll know that the comfortability of now travelling with your tent, and the comfortability of sleeping alone has a price, aprox. 30 Euros. So... If you can afford that, don't worry for your roof. It waits for you in my home!

Can you put us down for one of your extra-special one man tents?
Not Long Now...
I'm bringing a 3 man tent so I can accommodate 2 others.
yay \o/ that's one less thing to worry about.
Now just need to worry about the money.
Ok Barcelona crew, we've been spending Brittens diligently looking at the prices of rental cars, and it looks like the cost of the car rental is now going to be £163.93 per car + £42 "Disco tax", or £46 per person; this excludes fuel costs and any tolls along the way.
We're still just about happy to go with this but prices are now increasing so if anyone has any objections please say so within the next 24 hours, or we'll go ahead and book.
If the price rises much further though we may need to consider going back to public transport.
Okay, we've got another idea. Basically, 4 people can go with CJ (making 5...) in a rental car, and 3 can take the train/bus/whatever. This will save on Disco tax, and avoid Disco having to drive, with which he may not be entirely comfortable.
So who's willing to take the train? Disco is, so we need another two.
We're sleeping close to/in Barcelona on the 15th and on the 16th we drive from there to Benidorm.
We can easily take 3 people with us from there - provided they don't have enormous baggage, as the car - although big - will be stuffed for a 3-week journey.
How about it? Who's willing to go with me and Dominika in my father-in-law's Toyota Avensis?
Yay, that could be fun and there would still be the attraction of independent travel to enjoy. If you don't mind I have a backpack and a (I guess) medium-sized duffel. I probably have the most luggage of the Mitteners as well, besides perhaps Magintz, as I am 6 1/2 weeks away from home.
I don't know what a duffel is, but I like the sound of it, so - cool!
Do you have a constant access to the net, Disco? We should arrange a meeting place & time soon, and leave phone contact (SMS, expensive for us abroad) for emergency...
Please, this people who is travelling weeks before mittens, PM me with your cell phone numbers, ok? ;)
Apologies for not posting sooner; things are manic at present & I managed to cook half my face off at the Farnborough Air Show over the weekend (Great photo's though ;)).
I'm assuming there is still a call for volunteers to make their own way from Barcelona to Alicante? Considering that I'm on a different flight from the rest of you, and need to be back at the airport a few hours before you, it's probably best if I throw myself on the proverbial transport sword!!
Nacho, I was wondering if you could just check my travel theory before I do bookings this week.
http://www.spanish-rail.co.uk/trains/long.html#Euromed
Looks like I can book tickets through a London office which will be quite handy - I'm guessing Barcelona to Alicante?
http://www.aena.es/csee/Satellite?cid=1045569607511&pagename=Estandar%2FPage%2FAeropuerto&SMO=1&SiteName=BCN&p=1045569607347&c=Page&MO=1
It appears there is a train which runs from the airport to the main railway station in the city every 30 minutes. Is this correct, and would this be the correct station for the Euromed train, or will I need to make another connection?
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=Camping+Raco,+Benidorm,+Spain&ie=UTF8&ll=38.541771,-0.102181&spn=0.011966,0.020127&om=1
Where is the railway station in relation to the campsite? Would you reccomend a taxi, or is there a decent bus service?
I can't think of anything else right now, but everyone feel free to jump on in!!
I think I might have found my tent from last year, in which case, I might bring that. I will obviously give you plenty of warning so you don't bring a tent down for nothing!
Time to find the aftersun lotion...
Glod, for the barcelona trip, i'll have my largish backpack. Thats it. No other rubbish. I think it should fit in your car. Apprantly I'm already assigned for a tent, so if the space is there, i would like to go with you. I am also an exceptional navigator. Not to blow my own pot noodle horn or anything...
So, it's Disco & Layra, we'll make a pretty multinational car!
I sense an In-Car Singing National Folk Competition!
As soon as Dominika turns down her Depeche Mode, that is.
edit: what time are you 2 guys in Barcelona? I guess we should schedule a meeting time/spot...
I want to focus the info related to the tents in a different way... So, I am going to put here the OWNERS of the TENTS, and HOW many people the TENT might accommodate, in a COMFORTABLE manner. If there'sÃ, a mistake, please, tell to me.

I know I am being lame about this,Ã, ;) But I am seeing that maybe some of the guys travelling across continents might save bringing a tent, which I think should be a relief... but for that, I need the info.
Thanks.
PS: Mattglobe... Looking carefully to confirm your info, but; Euromed Barcelona-Alicante looks good. Tram to El Prat (Barcelona Airport) to the "Estació de França" confirmed. BUT my father tells me that the STATION of the EUROMED is "Estació de SANTS", not "França" (which is the end of the line)... Verify it (Anyway, transport from the airport to this station is confirmed, as well,as the line AIRPORT-Estació de França has a stop in "Sants"...)
From the train station in Alicante, you should go by BUS to Benidorm (Lorena arranged a map, about how going to the train station to the bus station, some posts above...) And then, my advise, is to take local bus to the campsite. Bus stops at the vicinity of the bus station and in the camping, so, no probs.
ULTRA detailed info, soon.
Ah didn't notice all these new posts. I'm fine bussing / training it down with Disco.

UNKNOWN: Spleen -- for now we're assuming you're not coming; if you can make it in the end, you may need to get public transport.
CAR COSTS:
The final hire car cost was 169.72. If there are 5 of us in it, that means 33.94 each.
If only 4 of us are in it in the end, it's 42.43 each.
This excludes petrol and any road tolls.
If Goldmund intends to travel on after Mittens rather than going back in the same direction that would mean you'd have to take the train back to Madrid if that's where you guys are flying home from. Just thought I'd bring it up in case it wasn't thought about. Would be a bummer if you had to order traintickets at the camp and find them sold out (although that'd be unlikely).
Here's a list of people who are coming via Alicante airport and meeting up (in order of arrival):
6:45 Sinitrena
13:25 Petteri
14:10 Helm
16:00 Grundislav
16:45 Radiant
17:20 Chrille
Naturally we'll be waiting for everyone in front of the hall of arrivals when they arrive. You'll recognize me of longish brown hair and an A4-sized Bluecup poster + way too much clothes to wear in Spain. There's a bus leaving from the airport at 17:30 so we'll probably miss it briefly. The next bus to Benidorm would leave around 21:00 (!), so Grundislav and I were planning that we could take a bus to Alicante city and another bus from there to Benidorm. Grundislav and Lorena know more about this route.
This is starting to get exciting, only 20 days to go.
EDIT: knowing from where/on which flight people are coming might help, I remember last year people didn't know that I was coming via Zürich so they went to look for me in the wrong hall of arrivals.
Sounds good, CJ. Only thing is - how much is petrol going to cost, roughly? Maybe Farlander knows. £30-42 is a nice figure, but I can only imagine we'll end up paying £50 each for petrol each way. Which will screw my finances right over! Hopefully this can be at least semi-worked out before we go, so I can save even more money.
It seems like for both ways it'll be about 16 eur each for fuel (if there are 5 of us), not a whole lot. The tolls are an unknown quantity though, impossible to work it out on the internet... unless you speak spanish perhaps.

The route planner at www.viamichelin.com reckons that the tolls come to 40 EUR (approx 6 GBP each) if you use the motorway the whole way, however I'm sure we can try out the alternate routes and see whether it's viable to go with a non-tolled route most of the way.

Thanks for checking...ahh well it won't be tooo costly :)
Madrid? That's where my flight stops along the way. I did mean Barcelona obviously.
Farlander, I am slightly worried about the tent-sauna situation that will occur in the mornings since there won't be any protection from the sun at the campsite. Found out just recently because the campsite-images led me to believe there would be trees n stuff to like in Agia Anna (have to suit myself for not checking properly). It's not that big a deal if there was nothing that could be done about this. But if there are special areas of the camp located under trees it would be great if you could book us those particular spots. Alternatively, if you can somehow obtain party tents for a fair price (something like this http://outdoor-leisure-garden-furniture.co.uk/uploadimages/party-tents-and-gazebos(1).gif ) that would be awesome.
sure 5 peoples luggage will be able to fit in the car?
If not, and they are tremendous, people in the back may carry them on their knees. :-P
Do you also want to go with us, Magintz?
edit: the car looks like this:

Should be no problem.
Working on it Chrille, we'll probably get something similar.
Excellent, thanks Nacho. Another solution, as Grundislav suggested, would be to get up early, take an afternoon nap and stay up late.

Having already burnt myself to a crisp a few weeks back, I agree about the need for a bit of shade & coolness if possible!

Ouch, I've missed the fact that Papa Puma already settled everything :o
Cool, so we're full now!
Let's make arrangments not later than this week, as we'll be absent later on!
Goldmund, roughly how much are we goinging to be needing to give you for this trip.
Also farlander I assume I'm renting the 3 man tent with m0ds and petteri, if so how much is the renting and how much is the whole week costing us. I'm doing my holiday finance planning and need to work out my budget and suchness ^-^
The ViaMichelin website calculates the diesel and tolls cost at around 70 euro, let's round it up to 80 in case air-conditioning and luggage weight uses more fuel (of course we'll know the exact amount after arrival).
It means around 15 euro per person.
Im bringing a 3 man tent. Hopefully the little car will handle it. Is ours the same as Goldmunds car?
Bump! CJ, what does our car look like?
They don't tell you the exact model you'll get but it'll be in this class: "Compact 4/5 Dr Manual (A/C) UK example: Vauxhall Astra / Ford Focus". We drove around in CJ's Focus at Brittens for a bit, it should manage as long as not everyone is bringing tents and sleeping bags.
Okie doke, well currently I am bringing sleeping bag, tent and rucksack.
Also, CJ - do you still live in Luton? If so how far are you from the airport, and would there perhaps be a spare parking space on your drive? I can get a national express bus but because of the time we get back, I might have to wait til the morning to travel home - so I'm considering driving to the airport. But only if you're still there and maybe have a space :) If not, i'll get the bus.
M0Ds,
Are all your tent spaces spoken for? I'm just thinking how many of us are travelling in the barcelona car may be bringing tents. If you've got room, I can leave mine at home as it's only a 1-2 man tent.
I've been meaning to go through the posts and get all the information together (perhaps get the first post updated) with people's timelines and in-tent-ions (see what I did there? ;)). Anyway, if I don't get it done tonight, I'll try and do something for thursday (if no-one beats me to it)

Matt, I'm afraid there's no more room in my inn :(
Mattglobe, the last msn message I received from Scotch was that he was bringing a tent, so, if there's no call in a different direction, you'll be hosted in David Scott's Inn.
For girls, just a quick note... We're going to a water park, so, bring at least a piece swimming dress that "secures" it all propperly.

Matt, if you want to include more specific travel routes in your post, my flightmare is following:
Helsinki, Finland - Stockholm, Sweden (7:15 - 7:20)
Stockholm, Sweden - Oslo, Norway (8:05 - 9:00)
Oslo, Norway - Alicante, Spain (9:30 - 13:25)
It's a silly route, but overall the best one I could find so :P It might get a tad confusing to include everyone's exact travel routes though, so I guess "Finland - Alicante" is okay. On the other hand, Sinitrena, I'm coming to Alicante via Norway on Scandinavian Airlines flight SK 4675, so you might want to keep an eye on that flight and be ready to greet me when I arrive!
Also I think Helm arrives in Alicante at 14:10 on the 16th.
I'm not bringing a tent, Chrille, Grundislav and I are sharing one which Chrille is bringing. (And that's as many as will fit in it)

I would ask everyone to travel as light as possible; hopefully the car will have a decent size boot, but even quite a large one might have trouble packing all our luggage in. Having said that, I will also be bringing sleeping bag, tent and rucksack so we'll just have to see what happens.

Next week I'm moving house to St Albans; however, I've booked a space at Luton Airport Parking, so if you want you could probably drive to my house, leave your car there and come with me to the airport. I'm not certain though what the parking situation is like if you did that, you might need to leave it on the road.
Wow, I love it how everyone accepted the meeting by the Nelson's Column, never minding the fact that it stands in Trafalgar Square.
Columbus Column. Columbus. In a port at one end of Las Ramblas.
Mattglobe, I have tents here... 11, to be precise. If you want to travel light, you can.
EDIT: On Sunday I have an excursion with my bike mates. I am going. My idea/desire is to invite some of the AGSers to see me crushing my team mates. I have reached an agreement to a mate to take you in his car. Don't worry, it might be a cool trip, we're going to climb 1,500 meters, me in bike and you comfortabily seated in a car with A/C. I don't want to punish you all with 4 hours of boring cycling, awaking at 0800, but I'd like some of the friends to come. Specially the polandians, the greek, Grundy and Lore.
If any of the staled above want to sleep that day, I'll understand it... And if some of the others wants to come, has seat in the car (or convinces CJ to drive the rented one) you are all invited...
Any thoughts?
Mark, are you arranging a quiz this year? I've got a crummy prize ('course that depends on who gets it) to donate ;).
I'll donate worn underwear.
I am indeed Chrille! Which reminds me, I need some submissions. Writing 100 questions last year was a bit of a nightmare!! :p
Anyone else bringing a prize? I have a couple, Grundislav one, now you one Chrille - and Helm's pants. :D
CJ - my sleeping bag will be in my rucksack which is of average size, and, I'll make a decision about the car over the next couple of days - because I don't really want to leave it on a road. We shall see :)
I'll bring a game or two from my game collection, or do like I did last year and buy a cheap prize at the airport. This year I'll try to pick the easiest questions!
Hahaha :D Awesome! Well whatever you can donate is appreciated, Peterri!
I have brought a Serenity DVD, which is serious as it is like me giving my own arm up for a prize. I will buy another copy for myself the day I arrive home, no doubt :P.
matt, me and disco aren't flying into barcelona we'll be there already. We're travelling by train ^-^
Also we do need a lift back to barcelona as we are on the same return flight to the UK as everyoone else.
Also water park yay, I haven't been swimming in 3 years so I'll need to buy some swimming shorts or see if I actually own any ^-^

No, never.
I've thought about the idea of taking you to the Plaza, because it's still used for some events... I thought it could be risky to take the guys to a "real" bullfight, because it might be a non suitable spectacle if you are not used to it, but there could be some "dribbling" bull events that doesn't include anything sharpen or pointy that could harm the animal. We'll see, I am not sure of the events in the Plaza that weekend.
We ARE still going to Terra Mitica though, right? At least those of us who want to go, it would be stupid to travel all the way to Benidorm and then miss all those kickass rollercoasters and rides.
Sure, and again, with 50% of discount thanks to my managing abbilities...
(Which can be resumed into, Dad! Get discounts for my internet buddies!!!)
I would personally not like to go see a bullfight.
Bah you sissies ... whatever happened to embracing the local culture? :P
LOL, well this year we're seeing a bull fight AND smoking drugs - just for the Stalkey family's pleasure :p Nah seriously I don't have a problem if people want to go. I'm quite happy to go, so long as we get the shaded seats cos otherwise I'll melt! And so long as there's no etiquete and you can shout & cheer them on even if you don't know who they are or what they're really doing...
And thank you to Mr Nacho for getting us a discount!

I haven't hear anything from AGA, so Farlander can I take you up on your offer of a tent again ::) Anything to help keep the luggage down on the car.
I think AGA has told to be alone in his one-man tent, but no problem, my tents will be here, no matter if you need them or not.
Heard anything from me? I said right from the start my tent was a 1-man and nothing but :P
Ok, so there's four of us arriving in Alicante the afternoon of the 16th. We should probably meet up somewhere and bring large blue cups with us to recognize one another? Does anyone know Alicante airport and know of a convenient spot to gather in?
Radiant, I compiled a brief list earlier in this thread, dunno if you missed it. :P
Quote from: Petteri on Thu 27/07/2006 21:01:57
So I've got a Bluecup poster I try to keep visible around the time people arrive, but I have no idea what kind of a place/how big the airport is. The best bet would be to gather around the arrival hall around the time people arrive and meet them as soon as they step out, or?
Quote from: AGA on Sun 06/08/2006 01:18:02
Heard anything from me? I said right from the start my tent was a 1-man and nothing but :P
Earlier, when I posted a breakdown of the tent situation I listed you with your one-man tent, and myself with a two-man tent. As we are both sharing a car from Barcelona, I didn't know whether you wanted to crash in my two-man and save a bit of luggage space?
I think the plan now would be for me to use one of Farlanders, to help try and keep the space down as You, CJ & M0Ds are bringing tents in the car.
Or someone gets strapped to the roof ;D ;D
I still feel guilty about everyone missing the 17.30 bus because of me. But I think we should be prepared to catch it because chances are the plane might be a few minutes early and provided I get my bag from the luggage-retriever thingamajig fast enough we might be able to make it. Also, I wouldn't mind if people didn't want to miss that bus just because of me, but I would appreciate it if at least someone would stay just to help find the way to the camping site. Unlike Andail, I'm not good at finding my way around foreign places.
I love riding roofs! :p Matt, if Nacho has yet more spare tents maybe those in my tent could use that option. If not I'll bring mine! Nacho? :)
:o
I took up on your offer because Nacho said it'll be cheaper to share a tent, and I'd really like to save as much money as possible because I'm only a poor student nowadays and I really need money to buy noodles and tuna back at home. But I guess it's okay if you leave your tent home, m0ds. I'll just crash into someone else's tent, or perhaps sneak into bathroom and sleep there.
:P
Please, somebody of the Barcelona crew does know the estimated arrival time to Benidorm? Because the Airport is quite close (maybe 45 mins.), and, if you are here by that time, I could take CJ, or Goldmund with me to the airport, because I know the way, and we could bring Chrille.
M0ds, the tents are here, so, as said, if you want to travel without the tent in your luggage, there's no problem (only that it will cost more to you...) But you'll have a canvass roof if you want, waiting for you here, don't worry.
Ohhh right, fair enough! :) Thanks - I thought you might have a spare tent of your own, but it's fine - I'll bring mine. So you won't have to sleep in urine, Petteri! :D
Quote from: Nacho on Sun 06/08/2006 18:36:09
Please, somebody of the Barcelona crew does know the estimated arrival time to Benidorm?
We collect the hire car between 13:00-14:00, and it's about 280 miles.
Therefore, allowing for stops, photo taking and tomfoolery, I estimate it will take 6-7 hours and that we will arrive at some time up to and including 21:00.
Nacho: What time does it get dark in Benidorm at the moment?
Also, have I interpreted the campsite's address correctly; is it at the "1" marked on this map:
http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/images/campsite.gif ?
The map is not 100%. Here is the map with the correct location of the campsite. Above, the same area with the way you should do to reach the campsite, having in mind that you come from the autoroute from Barcelona. (Autopista del Mediterraneo... You should take the first exit to Benidorm)
I think 6-7 hours is a bit too much... My dad made it in 3 hours, but I don't think that your hired car will run as fast as the Ford Sierra Cosworth he had... anyway, 6 hours? Let's say 5. In any case, too late for picking up Chrille. We'll see, if he really feels bad about it I might move too to the airport.
Edit: Sh1t... Photobucket resized my image, it's too big. I think it's quite clear, even in the small version, but if you have problems, I'll send the image. The avenue where the campsite is located is "Severo Ochoa".

Yeah, but we might decide to leave the motorway and take some local roads in order to see some Spanish towns and avoid the tolls, so it could well take longer. Depends what we decide to do in the end.
Then you should come via Altea, a town located 10 kilometres north to Benidorm, which in my satellite map is called "Avenida Comunitat Valenciana". You'd appeat just where in my image is the label "Mapa/Satélite", at the top-right. Then finding the campsite is very easy, because you should turn left in a cross road where the there are two big notices of "Mundomar" and "Aqualandia".
Actually asking for Aqualandia should be a nice trick to reach the campsite... but you should stop some meters before the street which leads to the mountain where the water park is.
One thing...Ã, I've asked my dad the price of the motorway Barcelona-Benidorm. He has told me it's something like 30 Euros... That makes 60 Euros (two cars) to be paid for 10 people... 6 Euros each. Having in mind that you'll probably have to drive 2 or 3 hours more if you don't take the motorway, the euros you save in tolls would probably be lost on paying the gas, and you'll have to travel more, so, if I were you, I'd reconsider it... :)
EDIT: I've called again to the campsite, and apparently there are parcels with canvasses... cool! About the sun: Yesterday I was quite impressed and told Lore that there is still a lot of light even at 2100 h., we will lose some minutes till middle august, but it wouldn't be "closed night" even with that when the Barcelona crew arrives.

More sekrit beaches!!!
Well, Aqualandia is actually in the mountain which has that cliffs you might be talking about, so, yeah, it' not very far away... There is something like a "fossile dune", the oldest in Europe, (or the biggest, I can't remember...) in that place. Don't ask me what the hell a fossile dune is, apparently a huge bank of sand which belonged to a sdjhfsjleolitic period. Interesting and very cheap visits are also the Island, and the waterfalls... warning, the water came from an inner lake, the first time they touch the sunbeams is in the place we will swimm (if anybod wants to go) so, be ready for freezing water.
This visits will deppend of how many energies we have, mainly, because it's easy to reach there by public transport...
EDIT: M0ds, there are some creeks/beaches with simillar quality than the staled Greek "Sekrit Beach", but, as the Greek counterversion, they will be not "sekrit" enough...
Bring on the nudist beach!
...assuming it's full of beautiful busty naked spanish women and not wrinkly old tourists.
Just a quick post from Disco and I. We shall be leaving now for our wonderful adventure in the magical land of France before questing our way through harsh terrain and onto Spain!
HUZZAH!
See you all on the 16th, and the awkward ones on different days.
Do either of you have a working mobile phone, in case for some reason we fail to meet up?
Additionally, I am moving house tomorrow and so it's likely that I won't have internet access between then and Mittens -- so I'll see you Barcelona Crew at Luton airport at around 17:00 next Tuesday! I think you've all got my mobile number so please do give me a text if any important changes happen between now and then.
Last year it was the Gate Gourmet strike, this year terrorists... what is it with Mittens that makes the airports shut down just around its time?
It's a conspiracy to make Mittens seem more exciting.
I got an email from my father with the subject "SERIOUSLY CONSIDER CANCELLING YOUR TRIP." I just hope they stop the ban on carry-on luggage by next Tuesday, otherwise if they lose my luggage I'm screwed.
I think that most Brits are flying from Luton, which isn't a real airport and the delays aren't that high at the moment. Should be fine by next week, probably just high security. Anyone flying from Heathrow, however, will be queueing till 2085.

No jellyfishes at the moment here guys... Benidorm has an Island which blocks some of the currents, and it's situation facing south, not east also helps...
Right, so I've got a similar situation to that of CJ's, I'm moving out tomorrow and won't have internet connection in a while. So, if anything very important happens and I should be aware of it, drop me a message or a call, Mitteneers 2005 should all have my number.
See you guys in Spain!
Perhaps it would be wise to gather everyones numbers again like we did last year? I don't have the numbers anymore even though I was the one who gathered them last year!
That would be very handy Chrille... I keep some of the numbers, but if someones starts to gather them and pass them to me, we could "publish" (discreetely) in Chrille's page.

The reason we ask is because we're getting in quite late, and the next bus isn't going to be until two hours after we land which will make setting up our tent a little difficult! It'd be a huge huge help if we could get a nippy lift to the campsite.
I had quite assumed that anyone of the drivers and me were going to pick you, guys...
Hurrah then! :D

Thanks, Farlander! :D

Ok, I guess that's everyone. I'll send a PM with the list immediatley.
Mittens initiates very soon!!! Yaay!
For a minute I thought I was going tomorrow!
BTW, not sure if those travelling from Luton have checked, but here's the latest "emergency" information - http://www.london-luton.co.uk/emergency.asp
Carry-on allowed again, but maybe only from Tuesday in some places: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4789593.stm
Easyjet are already allowing it, http://www.easyjet.com/EN/News/down_graded_security_threat.html but there are tighter size restrictions than usual. Also they're still cancelling flights... so far not on our route though.
Please can we take the motorway to Mittens and not crazy back-roads! More bugging about this on the day :p
Well my travel plans have been impacted by recent events.Ã, One of my connecting flights was cancelled so I'm currently waiting for my booking company to get back to me regarding alternative flight options.Ã, I'm not holding my breath at this point and think its quite likely that all they'll offer me is a refund.Ã, I'm very disappointed at that prospect.
Oh! Bummer! Good luck Quintaros... :-\
Well, the cable guy was more efficient than I expected, so I'm back, with just hours to spare!
Thanks for that drivers document Nacho, looks really useful :)
Has anyone else on the Barcelona Crew already printed it out? I don't want to do so myself if we already have a copy.
Our flight departs Luton at 18:45, so due to the checkins closing earlier and all the extra disruption, it would probably be a good idea to try and get there by 16:00, just to be sure that the flight doesn't leave with us still queueing at checkin...
I'll be there by 16.15.
And, MOTORWAYS!
ps - I have not printed the document because I can't
Nacho, what is your full name, in case we need it to enter the camp site?
Also, do you know what the parking situation is like? Will we have to pay to park there?
QuoteAnd, MOTORWAYS!
We'll discuss that tomorrow!
All set (early too). I will embark on my journey tomorrow (welll, very very early the day after tomorrow to be exact), and on arrival, having failed to spot you in or around the Arrival Hall, I will call Petteri or Sinatrena and complain about my lack of royal welcoming. That is all.
My complete name is Juan Ignacio Ayala... And apparently the parcels have space for the cars since they are 80 m2. The guy at the reception told me "No problem! No problem! we'll see it all when they arrive!" He was a bit stressed, and harsh... :-\
I didn't want to mention that we were the VIPS...
So, as soon as you are close to Benidorm, call me, and I'll go to rendezvouz with my motorped, with the 2005 away kit of FC Barcelona, so you can locate me miles away... And I'll go with you to the campsite and arrange it all.
Disaster...averted.
My flights have been reworked so that I now will be arriving on the 16th rather than 15th.Ã, That's actually what I wanted in the first place when I booked my flights back in February.
I'll be meeting up with the gang in Alicante airport by Arrival Hall around 16:00.
Well, I think I've managed to jam everything into 1 bag...
Just enough time left to finalise the annual and burn off a couple of copies tomorrow - it looks like I won't be able to bring enough for everyone, so the British Contingent will have to give me their postal addresses and I'll send them when I get back!
T-t-t-t-tiiiimee to go to Mittens!
See you all there!!!
And be good talk & chat forumers!!! :)
My journey has already began!1 I'm at the airport in Helsinki at the moment, it seems I've been cursed to stay overnight at airports whenever I travel abroad to meet AGSers.
But it's all getting very exciting! Due to recent events in my life I haven't had the time to think about Mittens yet, but today it struck me when I was sitting in a bus: I'm going to Mittens and it'll be swell! I got very excited.
I had to leave quite fast, so I packed my luggage yesterday. Unfortunately, I remembered that I forgot to pack some of the stuff I was supposed to bring, including a copy of Runaway: The Road Adventure for the Mittens super quiz. Nothing too important though.
But anyways! See you guys tomorrow, I'll try to come up with something to do here. I suddenly feel like having a beer, and I don't even like beer.
Well, I'm off. See you there!
Don't get run over by the bulls!
