this is almost crazy, but I was going to fly out from the US and attend. I hoped to meet CJ and the rest of you guys, but unfortunately I could not come up with the money this year.  :'( Hopefully next year.

Here's how to get to mittens:
Geographically, the Mittens cottage is easy to find, since it's the furthest north estate on Orust. When you have reach the top of Orust, you will see a small string of land (with a bridge over) leading to a small island called Vindön.

Vindön (Isle of Winds) will go via another bridge to the mainland.

However, you will not hike to Orust but use the mass communications:

Arriving in Säve (/Save):
* (note: Ryan-Air travellers will not arrive in Landvetter, the main city airport, but here in Säve Airport, a tiny field in the middle of nowhere.)
The coach to town is 60 sek (swedish crowns) and takes 20 minutes or so.

In Gothenburg:
* If you're not already in "Nils Ericssons Terminalen", find it. It's simply the name of the central busstation, just beside the train station, so you'll most surely arrive here. You can't miss it anyhow.
* If you have time to kill, lock up your bags and take a stroll down town. Also make sure you purchase a bus-card, so that all future travels will be cheaper. The cards usually come with 100 coupons, and cost 100 sek. When done:
* Find the bus "Orust Express". You will probably not do this, since it only departs three times a day; one very early and two in the afternoon. This will however take you directly to Henån.
If "orust Express" is not available:
* Find the bus "Röd Express" (Red Express). It's easy to spot, being red. Take this to Stenungsund. This bus leaves around two times an hour, and will cost you 8 coupons (insert the card in the green box and push the 8 button), equivolently 50 sek. From now on, you can (I hope) just insert your card and push "Byte", which means Change. This function is available for around two hours. After this, you'll need to consume more coupons.
After around 45 minutes you'll end up in:

Stenungsund:
A small coastal town surrounded by factories. Don't stay here too long, but take the connection bus 370 to Henån. With a bit of luck, you have managed to take a bus from GB that arrives just as 370 bus leaves from Stenungsund.
Shortly after Stenungsund, the bus will pass the big bridge and take you over to Orust. Enjoy the nature.

Henån:
Henån is a small fishing village, and we will probably go here to buy groceries or so during the mittens week.
Hopefully, bus 375 to Uddevalla is standing there waiting for you. Try to be onboard as it leaves.
Next stop is a small busstop just 5-10 minutes later, seemingly in the middle of nowhere, called

Edet:
You'll need to ask the driver to stop at Edet, cause it's tricky to find it before it's too late. Another way is to sit in the front of the bus and watch out for the bridge; the stop is just before the bridge that lets you off Orust and on to the mainland again.
If you want to, you can walk (carefully) out on the bridge and enjoy the view. On your right hand side is the yellow mittens cottage, probably hidden by the dense foliage.
If you go back from the busstop ten steps, there is a small path leading into the forest. I will have put up a sign here, and arrows leading you down to the cottage.

This might sound complicated, but the distances are very short, so you won't have to tug around your bags for too long. If you ask in Göteborg, they could show you exactly which buses have immediate connections, so you won't have to wait a long time for each bus. After all, killing time is funnier to do in Göteborg than in some countryside village.

All in all, you will change bus two times after Göteborg, and spend 8 coupons on these busses. I might have miscalculated this price, but it shouldn't be more than 10-12 coupons totally, so don't let yourselves be fooled. Try "Byte" as much as possible and blame everything on you being foreigners.

Note 1: If you come from the north, go to Uddevalla (around 80 kilometers north of Göteborg on the coast) and take bus 375 to Henån. The stop is still Edet - on the other side of the road though, and not before but after the bridge.
This trip should take 25 minutes and cost just some three-four coupons.

Note 2: If you arrive in Stockholm, take a Swebus to Göteborg (or another connection either to Göteborg or Uddevalla) as soon as possible. Time tables availabe at www.swebus.se
This is fairly expensive and will take at least 3-4 hours.

So we land and go on a bus. Gotcha!

Unless some people really prefer sleeping in tents, I suggest we alternate, so that all people can sleep inside at least one or two nights.

It's good if all people who can tuck along a tent would do that, even if they are not prepared to use them. Some people will undoubtedly have to use them anyway.

Well, you will pay for food and beverages, roughly. Considering Sweden is pretty expensive, along with what is minimum for a fun stay, I'd say at least 10 quid a day.
One day perhaps nothing, another day perhaps a trip somewhere and an expensive drink, or a golden dinosaur.
I don't know really, use your imagination.

What kind of services are available there? Are there any Systembolag (where you by alcohol in Sweden for you who didn't know) and grocery store or supermarket closeby or will we have to buy all food and beer in Gothenburg?

When it comes to alcohol, and I believe it will be a featured element, it'll be upright impossible to bring underaged people to pubs and similar, unless Andail knows some shady establishment somewhere. Beer may be wise to purchase in rather large amounts in Gbg. Food, if I recall, was available fairly close, but as in all smaller communities, it'll probably be a rather small variety of groceries and/or expensive. Food may be wise to mainly buy while in Gbg and smaller purchases whereever that shop was located.

Getting served on some pub on the country-side might be possible if you're just below 18, although we shouldn't count on it.

When it comes to nifty places in Gbg (in case we go out there some night, which isn't likely), entrance for minors (below 20, in practics) is just out of the question.
But fret not, I'll fill up the stocks before you get there.

Ok, so what kinds of cooking facilities will be available? Sounds like you've got a house out there, but if everybody just cooks for themselves each meal will take ages...

All right, an update:

I've spent the weekend at the cottage, building, repairing and cleaning up until my muscles ached and I had small wooden pins all over my skin. It's pretty decent now, but still a bit old and rusty. There is also a smell in some of the rooms - as in the guest house, so if you're allergic to mould and similar, it's probably best to choose the tent. Remember to pack a set of clothes that are not too expensive, since dirt is kind of the keyword for the cottage. Don't forget bathing suits as the weather is nice, and some shorts, since we will be sporting alot - there's the mittolympic games taking place on the tuesday.

Yes, please bring sleeping bags. If we reach around 16-17 people, I'm sure you'll understand that I can't provide sleeping bags for all of you. Of course, sheets is a more comfortable alternative and weigh less.

I still haven't solved the bed-issue, so I can't make any promises.
I guess the three or four attendees who've travelled the farthest distance are more or less guaranteed a bed. They're worth it, so to say. We must also pay respect to people with bad backs or claustrofobia and similar.
I will sleep in a tent myself, and I think Mods made the same promise.

The weather is nice but a bit unstable. When it's really sunny and nice, the mittens-location is a heavenly place to be, whereas constant rain and thunderstorms (there are lots of those around here) can make it less heavenly, so to say.

It'd be great if Chrille or someone had a laptop to bring, but I will probably consider bringing my desktop if that's the only alternative.
Remember to bring discs or cd:s with your show-and-tell material.

I will personally leave on sunday before dinner, and I can take two or maximum three people in the car, since I will have lots of luggage.

I'm not sure if people will be able to bring their own. Chrille - is your DVD region coded? what region is it? should be region 2 -  or can it play DVD's from anywhere?

If it is region 2 I suppose I can bring space jam, matrix, spiderman, die hard 3...

If it can play american ones I can bring whole nine yards, meet the parents, not another teen movie, planet of the apes, american pie 2 as well.

The problem with American movies might be the NTSC issue. That means if the TV out there is not too new and fancy we won't be able to see any colours on the American or Japanese DVDs.

Well, if you're ever going to Sweden, this will be the best opportunity. At least I am pretty busy the rest of the year.

Just check the prices one more time. Remember that your stay is free - apart from food of course. You won't get a better chance for a really cheap holiday that often...and it'll take a really long time before you get the chance to meet all the members that have strived to come here next week. Next mittens is in USA, now that will cost money and efforts.

Hmm, I don't know when I'll be there. I'll probably be kinda flexible as I think I'll be seeing a friend (GURL!!!!!11!!!1!!!!) in Gothenburg and therefor will be there a few days earlier.
So catching up is a good idea. Just name your time and I'll be there!

What is a Joe Tournament? Is it a kind of Gymkana? I lauched the idea of the "ten bucks bets competition" which is making funny things (quite embarrasing, even) for the bet. From Stockholm C to Gothenburg C by train it costs 380SEK, which means about 38EUR.
If you're 25 or under (or pretend to be...) and book in advance.
If you think it's worth it you can also go by X2000, which are high speed trains, but the price is about the double.
Bus is probably a bit cheaper although less comfortable and takes longer time.

http://www.sj.se for train time tables and booking. Best if you can navigate in Swedish, but it has an English section as well.

In my guide book it says 95% of swedes speak english to some degree.. it also says sweden isn't actually the place to go for easy hot sex so I think the book's a bit dodgy ;)
