It's okay, I don't think the recruitment board is restricted to just AGS projects.

We used to have a thread for any and all recruitment, as it no longer exists (this board replaced it) I guess this board can hold your thread :)

From the "Board Rules" thread:

Nazi rule ;)

In a way it's better.  Your non-AGS call for help stands out more here than one buried in a bunch of AGS recruitment threads :-)

Maybe! It'd be nice to think the recruitment board is there for embracing a broader spectrum of AGS members skills in and across videogame development. This thread wasn't exactly a spam recruitment call for MacDonalds or such. The original recruitment thread was about any and all video game related jobs so I'm not sure why an entire board should pidgeon hole it specifically to AGS games. "Offer your services" isn't "Offer your services only in relation to AGS games", etc. The recruitment board would look healthier if full of all manner of jobs IMO rather than a few AGS game positions as it stands. The preservation of this quiet corner of the web is important but recruitment board could stand to serve as a more ambitious link between members, their skills and the industry related jobs out there in my personal opinion. It'd be easy enough to tag in thread titles if you're offering an AGS or OTHER job.

General board, well it's already been raped by my replies and no-one goes to the General board expecting to find recruitment/job offers really, are they? At least, not ones you'd generally take seriously? Maybe so. But we have a "jobs" board, just not entirely sure stamping "AGS" in front of that is really to anyone's benefit? Viewership of the threads in there is fairly low, which must mean people don't really check it, which must mean there isn't enough variety to pull people in or such. I totally get that for a majority AGS is literally just AGS, it's just a hobby, but for a growing number of others, it acts as a bridge, it's a link in a wider chain, in a way I can't fully describe right now but you know what I mean ;)

I agree with Mods.  All the ads overthere start with [Help Wantged] which is not very informative since it is a "help Wanted" topic.  Perhaps we could come up with a number of "approved" tags that convey more meaning (i.e. [AGS GAME], [NON-AGS GAME], [WEB DESIGN], [GRAPHIC DESIGN], [PROGRAMMING].  If [Buger Flipper] is not on the list then it would be against the rlues.  It would be a way of giving broader scope without losing control and perhsps some more opportunities will come our way..

Well, to be fair, the tags are for designating whether the recruitment call is ongoing, completed, or withdrawn. Information relevant to the help request should be added after the tag.

The decision to limit the board to AGS projects only was made relatively late in the boards life, after people complained about the prospect of non-AGS projects pushing AGS projects off the front page of the board*, and that something should be done about it. So it was.

The original recruitment thread was about any and all video game related jobs so I'm not sure why an entire board should pidgeon hole it specifically to AGS games.

The board was designed to replace the old "Recruit A Team" thread, which I felt had become bloated, unwieldy, and, frankly, no longer fit for purpose. This was due to the sheer number of requests, and the apparent unwillingness of people to scroll back further than a page or two, leading to a lot of missed opportunities.

From it's inception, when I introduced it as part of a proposed reshuffle of the forums I presented to the other moderators for debate and implementation, the recruitment board has required a light touch in regards to how it should be monitored, and how its rules should be enforced, to ensure it works as intended. For example, I try to be mindful of the problem of overcrowding and of valid requests being pushed down the board. This led to the specific creation of two rules:

1. Only one thread per user.

2. Threads will be considered abandoned if the user has not logged in to the forums within 28 days of the thread's creation.

Some might view this as being a little restrictive, as users sometimes have multiple projects on the go, and not everyone spends a lot of time on the forums. But to insure that threads don't become swallowed in the flow, and dead threads don't clog up the board, I felt that limiting the numbers, and restricting the time a thread would stay active, was a good compromise.

Personally, I think the rules I enforce are reasonable, but anybody interested can judge for themselves here.

I agree that recruitment for non-AGS projects should have a place on the forum, and I have a proposal that I will put to the other moderators.

*The front page of the board is extremely important! To everybody, it would seem.
