TWO gigabytes? Two GIGAbytes? Two gigaBYTES?

That's insane for a retro game. Heck, World of Warcraft ships on less CDs than that. Okay, I'm seriously not going to bother downloading that before I see some strong positive reviews first.

Joseph DiPerla

Have you seen the demo video? The graphics? The gameplay style? The intro video? Heck they even had a little help here in there from advice from David Fox and other fans of the game. If your fan of Zak, you will be a fan of this game from what I am hearing....

Wow, 2gb is insane. Let me know when you have a 50mb max version. Not possible? Perhaps you should persuade the developers to turn all their BMP's into compressed formats :P

Mordalles

The game sure looks impressive! looks really alive (backgrounds) and love the 2d.
i've only been aware of this game for the last 2 weeks. and really been looking foward to it.

but,  :'(, 2 gigs is my entire download cap for the whole month! (which i already share with 2 other people)

Gah, 2 GB is too much!  My machines times out after 5 hours.   :'(
I suspect it's something to do with Vista, cos this has happaned before when downloads take more than 5 hours.

Such a pity.  I was really looking forward to this.  :-[

LUniqueDan

Frodo : I used the rapidshare links. Worked well but I needed to suscribe.
I guess 5$ to be able to dnl the game in about 2 hours really worth it.

now : can someone more fluent than LGM can teach me German in less than 1 week?!?

please?

It doesn't bother me at all that the game is 2 gigs.  What bothers me is that they made a German-only fangame release, with vague plans for translations.  If you check their forums, some of their designers say there will be no english release while others say it's in the distant future.  This sort of thing can only hurt them, really, since english is understood on the written level by many, many people.  It just makes no sense to prime a release of such size in any language other than english.

Obi

Oh those crazy Germans and their language whatever will they do next? I used to do German in school, I wasn't very good and didn't really try to learn so this should be fun! 2 gb isn't too big for me, considering I have a rapidshare account already and everything is bigger these days.

I just finished the download. As far as I can tell... The game is fantastic! The graphics and gameplay are great.

One problem... I dont understand as much as a normal German does. My German is extremely limited. I cant get passed the intro because of it...

But so far, it does not seem like it will disappoint. I want that English version though!

It took me around 30 minutes to get it, from the adventure-files.de link. Other links are way too slow.

And I agree, I need an English version... else I'll just be pointing and clicking randomly, watching eye candy  :'( and maybe brushing up my nearly non-existent German skills...

I just spent 40 euros on Sinking Island which is 4.31 gigs, but will most likely suck more than this new Zak Mckracken game.

The game is in german (text and speech) which is a bit misleading since the title and even the credits are in english.
I can't read german. Shame.

EDIT- I used the torrent.

Thats because it has over 50 locations in top quality high resolution graphics!

Unless there's plenty of video and/or audio in the game, those backgrounds have to be of pretty darn high resolution to make 2 gigs...

Frodo

Managed to download it in 45 minutes using adventure-files.de link.   ;D

I don't understand much German, so I'm just clicking randomly (and not getting very far  :P), but I love the whole aircraft bit.  The cup he uses is a nice touch.  So far, the quality has been top-notch.   ;)

Please please please make an English translation, so I (and many other people) can fully enjoy it.   :)

Radiant

Could someone who downloaded it enlighten me why this game is so large? :) I assume the 2 gig download is compressed? Room graphics couldn't possibly account for that size, and frankly music probably wouldn't do that either; so does it have intro movies? 3-d scenes? A complete voice pack for every line?

I'm afraid my German isn't solid enough to complete an adventure game in, so I'll defer my download until the English translation is complete.

LUniqueDan

@Radiant : actually the installed Zak Folder take olny 1,6 gig... (?!?)

I'm playing the first one in German in order to learn the langage.
(I'm also teasing anything germanish passing by in the Stickam AGS room, it helps. Ja Ja it's olny for the game  :=)

Radiant.  There is a nice intro sequence (which I don't understand) that has speech.  And so far, the start of the game has speech.  The graphics are top notch - as good as any commercial game.

It's beautiful eye-candy, but unfortunately, that's all it is to me at the moment.   >:(

Joseph DiPerla

Yeah, the graphics are high resolution, 1024x768 I think. Everything had a lot of hi color graphics put into it. There are tons of animations for the characters and the scenes. There is no detail left out.

Plus they have large intro and cutscene movies. And its a talkie. And keep in mind there are tons of characters and 50 playable rooms in hi res. And a lot of scripting and dialogue(More than most games) had gone into it.

So that would account for the 1.6 gigs.

The rest are extra's that come with the game, DX9, XVID, cd covers, manual, extra images and a demo game that they are also developing. All in all, its feature filled download.

Won't run on my computer... It shows the loading-screen (?) (which doesn't work properly either, that peanut is drawn in its entirety way before the loading-process is actually finished). I then see a green full-screen rectangle for a split-second and it just throws me back to the desktop. Since there are almost no options to configurate nor is there a human-readable log-file, I guess there's not much I can do.

That's what they get for using Visionaire, I guess. :p

vict0r

I would have played it, but it's in german for some retarded reason, so I won't! What is it with having an all english website and not marking clearly that the game is in german and that there is no future plans for an english release? I can somehow live with the ridiculous file size, but not the language!
