Father Chrismas says: "Don't forget to add your game to the database if you want it to be eligible for the 2011 AGS Awards!"

This year everything will stay pretty much the same (including the grandiose ceremony chez Wyz/Duals/m0ds, discussion here)!
I will open the usual "for your consideration thread" on the first of January, to let developers have a bit more time to showcase their productions.

ThreeOhFour

I already nagged Sughly to put Egress in the DB. I've done my part  :D

Excellent, glad you are organising this bici!! Looking forward to the nominating and the show itself with that all new background :D

Hope to have my game on the DB before Xmas... hope.

Time for my yearly bad conscience for having played only a few games...

I was thinking, there have been a lot of RON, OSD, and MMM games lately; would it be interesting to add an award category for "best game in a shared universe" or something like that?

I am generally against adding new cateogries, since the voter turnout has never been high. Does anyone else approve Radiant's idea? If there are enough "aye" I will add the category.

Have to say I agree with Radiant on this one. Would hate to see an OSD game win "short game" award for example, but thats just me. Doesn't apply to all series, but some of them are certainly what the p3n1s award used to be for  :=

I'm a bit puzzled, are you saying that OSDs should be inelegible for, let's say, short game?

Why should an OSD game not be eligible for short game? If it is good, why not? If it is bad, it probably wouldn't win anyway. Last year an OSD game was nominated for best voice acting - so what?

Instead of a "shared universe" award I'd rather like to see the "Best documentation" award again. Some people put a lot of effort in it and I think this should be rewarded.

I say that because of the consideration of a "shared universe" category idea. I'm not bothered if OSD games for example are in short game category, I just think the shared universe idea would suit their entry better. Whatever happens, you asked for an "aye" - and that's all my reply was meant to be  :=

What, did that reward disappear? Why? I think it's a good one to keep around.

For that matter, we used to have a "best silly game" award that got dropped a few years ago, which would also be fitting for OSD games (but less so for RON/MMM).

TBH, this happens every year with the same results - no new categories will be made, no matter how good or bad the argument. Well yes I am (and previously, SSH was) pretty conservative about the matter; in my case the attitude stems from the lack of votes in some of awards.
2 ayes, let's see how it develops.

Thanks, I won one of those with Colourwise and yuppers, there was some effort going in!
And I was the one who decided to erase it because almost noone nominated/voted (can't get the numbers right now) the first year I took charge of them awards.

Keep comments coming!

I say nay. Fewer categories the better, methinks. Having a new award for OSD-type games wouldn't stop the game from winning short game if popular enough since people just out their favorite game in every category, regardless of merit in the particular area the award seeks to... well, award. If anything, I'd advocate removing any redundant categories.

I have no problem with categories if they make sense and allow people to better classify their votes.  I'm not so sure 'shared universe' does this but something like 'Joke Game' would since it's an actual category in the database.  If you don't like the connotation of 'joke' then consider it to mean silly or whimsical.  This would at least bring back the penis as a less offensive award category reserved for people who are just making a bit of humorous fluff for others (or for their own amusement), and there are enough games to justify it.
