Is Ezboards no more?

I need to write my monthly column for a magazine, and driven by laziness I got and idea to check if I said something witty on the old forums, so that I can translate it and present to the editors.

Alas! Lo and behold the tragedy of the mortal forums!

I managed to login to my ezboards profile, but most of the posts are deleted ("unknown user, post non-existing").

Is there a backup of our happy past somewhere on the net?

MrColossal

Sylpher saved some posts... But he hasn't fixed his site... You could pester him for some stuff, seems there's some posts about game theory, Monkey Island and something called Old Posts...

http://p098.ezboard.com/bdosuserforums is still working...

And if you can't find what you're looking for, then archive.org is your friend!
Actually, I HAVE worked on a couple of finished games. They just weren't made in AGS.

Seems like very post has the first post, but the rest are lost in time. Makes me feel kinda sad, I spent a lot of time there....

Pumaman

This is a shame, it seems like most of the posts are gone ... ah well, if that's how well ezboard take care of their data, I guess it's lucky we moved away from them...

Esseb

That was one of the original reasons, CJ. You forgetful Brit.

Doh! There were many many great conversations had on ezboards, and now they have been destroooyyyed! :( Does someone have all these Yabb posts backed up? :P Who will look after adventuregamestudio.co.uk in 100 years time/!?!?1

CJ, when are you having kids?

PS Esseb, I like your signiature :D

I remember a few months ago ezboards got hacked and lost alot of data. They had some backups, but were not able to retrieve everything for all forums. I'm not sure if this is what affected the old boards, but it might be.

Esseb

No, they have a policy of deleting old posts, or posts from page 10 or higher on a forum. This was a problem even when we were still on ezboard.

Pumaman

Perhaps, but they certainly didn't have a policy of replacing all but the first post in each thread with "(This post is missing and can not be restored)" -- the hackery sounds plausible for this.

It's a shame, ezboard was a goldmine of how things were in the "oldern days" ;)

AGA

Oh Eee Zed Boards, how we miss you.

Esseb

CJ: Depends on when this hackery was performed. It was like that two years ago also.

Squinky

I had been popping in there every now and again, and this seems like a pretty recent devolopment. All the missing posts have the same date and time too, so thats probably when it happened....

MrColossal

By golly Holmes! That's the time of the murder!

Yeah, seems that it's our only hope, but that may not work well if you don't know the original message address. :=

Yeah... interestingly enough, I managed to find my old EzBoard quite easily, because I was redirecting to it with a shorter URL.
