Title: Need Help Running AGS Games
Post by: on Wed 28/03/2007 04:59:46
Not sure if I put this in the right forum, since its a technical problem but not about actual AGS game making.  Anyways.....

A friend of mine is having problems running AGS games.  We try to start them, and we get a frozen window (though the sound seems to work fine).  We tried messing with the settings in the setup, but nothing worked.  She is using a fairly new computer (not sure the specifics, but its better than mine, and I run AGS games perfectly).  The specific games involved are 5 Days a Stranger and 7 Days a Skeptic.  We tried opening the games through DOS prompt, which worked better, but once we got to the actual menu screen, clicking on new game wouldn't work.  Anyone ever encounter something like this or know how to fix it?  I can get the specifics of the computer involved if necessary.  Thanks.

There was somebody on IRC a while ago with the same problem, though it might be the same person.

Did you try messing around with all resolution settings, too? Also, you could try turning "compability mode" on (assuming you're running Win XP)- that usually works, though I couldn't see any reason why you should have to. Good luck!

We tried all the resolution settings.  What's compatability mode?  Not familiar with that one.

If you're using XP, right-click on the game's executable, go to "compatibility" tab (or whatever it's called, since I never used an English XP I'm not sure), check the "run in compatibility mode" option, and try toying with the settings.

Tried messing around with compatability mode with no luck.  None of the settings seemed to affect it (not in a positive way, anyways).  Thanks for the suggestion, though.
