Anybody have a favorite AGS game that most people ignore or don't put in the "canon" of classic must-plays?
I have one: Escape from Evergreen Forest (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=450). It has logical puzzles, a great setting, and a pretty funny wizard. What more could you want?
I'm a huge fan of Alkis' Other Worlds (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=471). I think a lot of people avoid it because of the strange mix of photographic backgrounds and MS-Paint characters, but the plot is great and there's tons of fun and innovative puzzles in there. Especially the use of magic spells which reminded me quite a bit of Loom. Actually I find that the story and gameplay superior to the creator's later and much slicker looking commercial game, Diamonds in the Rough.
Nice thread Moody!
My hidden gem is the Bunker (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=577).
It's a game packed with humor, logical puzzles and witty dialogues and I like to replay it now and then!

Gahhh, the download link is broken! Can I ask you the favour to upload please? :P You got me curious! :)
I think I remember The Draft Drifter Who Dashed Doctor Dunno (http://"http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=529") being pretty hilarious. I have few games saved in my IMPORTANT folder that travels from computer to computer as they get upgraded and this game is still in the folder since 2005 so... That's something!
Haha, I remember that one, MrColossal. Fun little game with some good and surprising uses of non-original music. I even still remember a couple of the puzzles.

A relatively new one, but obscure enough to have gone by below most people's radars is Good Morning, Mister Gingerbread (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=1074) - in fact one of the few AGS games of the last year I played at one go without looking anything up, getting impatient or using every inventory item with the door.
Four words. (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=763)

There you go, it's like 18 megs because it has movie files in it, let me know if it's good still!

Thanks MrColossal! Working and very enjoyable game (I'm currently trying to guess how to help indy...)!
I'm a secret fan of Frank the Farmhand. Not for any reason than I just really enjoyed playing it.
Merry Christmas, Alfred Robbins and Historical League of Bouncy Boxing.
Ace Starkiller in: Hillbilly Burger Bastards. (http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=1341.0)
For my money one of the best games made in AGS. And it's not even in the DB!
Oh crap... there was another game that I thought was hilariously written, it wasn't much of a game but it was about a soldier from DOOM having to buy a present for a boss from DOOM... As you can tell my memory is awesome. Anyway I think it was hilarious!
Heh, Hillbilly Burger Bastards is barely recognizable now compared to the original release ^_^, so eventually you'll be getting a whole new game (if you're good!).
As far as favorite low-radar games, I'd say at the top of them for me is No-Action Jackson, which is probably one of the most visually polished (though buggy) early AGS game. I think Cerebrit did a wonderful job with it overall and go back to play it every now and again, much like I do with all my old favorite commercial games. Since BFS is down I've uploaded it to mediafire for those who want it: http://www.mediafire.com/?ztwgmnejnjd
Other gems are Apocalypse: Vel, which in spite of being a bit of a joke game is still quite enjoyable, Grundislav's Secret of Carver Island also has a quirky charm to it, and The Great Stroke Off which is another humorous game made for OROW.
Edit: Turns out I had already played DDDDD a long time ago, so no surprise super game for me :(.

That one was actually made for ATC.
I must jump the DDDDD bandwagon too, as I've already sent some brown nosey fan mail to the author some time ago, hoping to hear from the sequel. ;D
DDDDD was and is still one of my favourite AGS games.

And my addition is The Farm (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=708). A very special way of interaction and very bizarre puzzles.

OMG, are you talking about Harry's 21st Birthday (http://newton64.ca/games/)? It was written by one of my best buds here. I play board games with this guy, like, weekly. And the really funny thing is he didn't tell me he had made an AGS game until pretty recently. This is so weird. Small internet!
These all sound like good games worthy of digging up. :D
Oh, and I forgot to mention this gem (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=1148). It may be too soon to call it a cult classic, but it's a great game that isn't getting enough love yet.

I recognized phobos anomaly, tower of babel and Dis.
The first room though, and the one where you meet Harry, I did not recognise them. for sure from Inferno, maybe House of Pain and Slough of Despair?

Um, hi everyone. I'm the idiot responsible for
Harry's 21st Birthday. I basically created my account 5 minutes ago to reply here. :D
So, the short history lesson. I made the game in
2001 2003 (my how time flies). Boom. Fast forward to 2008, when I met Ivy at a videogame conference in Montreal. We do indeed play a lot of board games, at which she routinely destroys me both mentally and, frankly, morally. Then, I showed her the game, because it was entirely stupid and I figured she'd get a kick out of it. Then, early this morning, she pointed me towards this thread; and the rest, as they say, is alarmingly recent history.
Honestly, I didn't think anyone actually played this thing---I literally made it for no other reason than to satisfy my curiosity. So I'm flattered you guys dig it.

Ah, not quite! Both rooms come from E2M9: Fortress of Mystery (http://doom.wikia.com/wiki/E2M9:_Fortress_of_Mystery_(Doom)), the secret level in Episode 2.
And to those that have played the game through, I can only say that I apologise so very profusely.

Oh, I meant to post this earlier, but I really enjoyed Saturday School (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=557). It has some super-cute, super-simple graphics, plus some clever puzzles to boot. And it's playable in a lunch hour. :)

Wow, this game was awesome. Thank you for sharing it and newton for making it. It really takes me back to the times when the internet was a simpler place, and making AGS games was not about quality perse, but about the sheer excitement of being able to create a living, working game out of a childhood dream.
** This posting can be seen as a shameless self-promotion. However, it also serves the purpose of raising my team's ambition to finish our current project **
Thanks Mr Colossal, Pablo and GarageGothic for calling our game an obscure favorite .. that's really nice - especially four years after its release :)
The official AGS-Download-Link (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=search&sterm=draft+drifter&submit=Search!) should now be working properly again.
The game really started out as an exercise in programming. I did civil service at that time (which might have influenced the title ;) ). I always wanted to learn programming so I created the first room (the one with the palm and coconut) just to try out some very basic scripting.
It grew from there - the characters in the game were all inspired by people whom I met in the hospital where I was working. A tragic example is Kurt, who appears as the crazy host of a gameshow in the game. In real life he had suffered a stroke but often came to our office to talk with us about his very vivid life... shortly after we had created Kurt's Quizbeach in the game he died of a second stroke.
A few month after releasing the game I was really proud to find a walkthrough of the game written in Swedish on some website. And I was also honoured by your fan-mail Pablo ;)
However, the burden of a sequel (bigger, louder, funnier) means a lot more work. We hope to release the sequel sometime before 2012 ... because as we all know in 2012 the world will end.
You don't believe me? ... You think that DDDDD was just a small unimportant game with a romantic ending where a young couple in love is sailing toward the sunset while "I can see clearly now the rain is gone" is playing in the background? - think again and watch the super-secret taking-itself-way-too-serious teaser for the sequel: Itzamná - The Riddle of Rain Island (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CHuohNy3cM)
