Old AGS projects that were never completed

Looking for things to write about on my company blog I figured old projects that I never completed would be a good subject, with a seemingly endless supply of topics. I've been posting a couple but two that the AGS community might appreciate are the following:

DevCo Quest
http://score-studios.jp/?id=1238

The Blue Cup, Adventure Mini-golf
http://score-studios.jp/?id=1276

Both projects got quite far into development but were ultimately never finished, both of the above were made using AGS (version several.years.ago.02). More images posted in the links above.

I was never deeply involved in the community but I did my best. All this was YEARS ago. I've sadly not touched AGS since then either, but I am almost tempted to try it again (although now of course there is a team of coders I could employ, if they're not too busy doing stuff that makes us money instead). Oh well. I just thought you guys might get a bit of a kick out of these. As you were.

Oh my, how sad that you never finished the adventure-themed minigolf game. That looks positively delightful!

I second the vote on reviving that mini-golf game.  It looks like fun, and pretty original for the AGS universe.

I could be convinced to release the existing artwork (say 80% of the game) to the community, if someone wants to take on carrying the torch...

I've been trying for years to make a themed mini-golf game but not succeeded, so I've sent you a PM because it looks fantastic. Definitely a game worth reviving! So, how can you be convinced? :)

I can actually kind of see now how walkable areas could be used for some of the illusion, but still no idea about ball control.

I did some mini-golf graphics a few years back... was it for this?  It's "ringing a bell" but I can't quite put the pieces together in my brain...

And I definitely remember DevCo Quest (love me some ISO!!)... weren't you James Kay back then though?

Kweepa

He was, yes!
I take the blame for never finishing the minigolf game. I am a heel. I should still have the sources...

This makes total sense... And checking PM's reveals some hidden truths!

I'll dig it up and re-upload it tonight :)

I had JamesKay making screens for it based on old adventures (Police Quest, Sam and Max) that you might be interested in...

However, your next PM was to say you couldn't find it. :P But I'm certainly interested, as I was back then... and James' art is extremely brilliant!

Ah, I did have a previous log-in. I went through a few tries (who knew it was my actual name, eh? Guh) but then just signed up again because I'm lazy.

As it was as much Kweepa's game as mine what I'll do is I'll organise all the art into a clean Photoshop layered file and email it to him. Then he can decide what to do with it or whom to send it to, as he has a better grasp of who is who in the community.

Some courses will need to still be arted up (or the game reduced to a few holes fewer than 18), and some may need changes after play testing. I'm fine with whatever. I'd appreciate a name check in the credits with a link to my company's website, our logo in a logo splash if there ends up being one, and it'd be a bit rum if it was used to make money so as long as it stays free I don't really mind what happens with the art.

As for DevCo Quest, that one is sadly gone for good. I have the source but it doesn't open in the current version of AGS I believe. The puzzles worked 100% through the game to completion, but it just needed filling in the blank details and non-events. But halfway through a cloud of smoke layer wasn't set to "click through" so it is impossible to pick up a required item behind it, making it impossible to finish and...well I just don't fancy ploughing through that source to fix it. And it wasn't that good either. A little knowing, and a little dev-angry (I was young(er) then).

What's wrong with Photoshop?

I've just sent it off to Kweepa. Quite a nostalgic trip through my old files, that was. I had also done pretty much the entire front-end (included too). Heh.

That minigolf games looks like it would have sweeped the AGS Awards back in the day.  You really should consider revisiting it if only for the nostalgia boost it will give fans of all those games it pays homage to.

Sorry, my terminal paint shop pro PSD-phobia got the better of me. It's fine! :)

There was a community minigolf that was assembled by Steve McCrea.

Dear lord, kweepa

It is unacceptable that you never finished that. Little mini golf games are awesome.
