No doubt this has been asked 101 times before, but where can people nominate Picks of the Month? There's nothing on it in this thread: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=15411.20
There's a nice long list of past Picks of the Month but it would be great if there was a link to a page where future picks could be nominated. Or does someone on high decide which game is the next one, with no input from us mere mortals?
Thanks.
The mighty SSH picks them. Which is why I am planning on bribing him with chocolates to get my game picked next.
I think it might be all changing soon anyways..
I see - thanks for letting me know. Well, I'm sending him two boxes of chocolates, so there :P :D
I'm happy to receive suggestions, but this is only the second one I've had in the course of over a year. I will of course give a game a play before I put it up as Game of the Month, although not always to completion...
If anyone else can promise to do it regularly, they are welcome to take over.
I'm quite surprised not seeing Princess Marian as a pick of the month at all. ;) ;D Personally I think SSH is doing a great job, at least the pick of the month has been updated each month now. ;D

Obviously, it is long overdue, but it would be disingenuous to pick my own game. Which is why I want someone else to take over ;)

Before that happens, I would like to suggest "Nelly Cootalot". :)

What? You mean to say Nelly Cootalot has not been Pick of the Month yet? What an oversight!
I'd like to propose the following plan of action:
* Nelly Cootalot is PotM for July;
* Trevor Daison on Outer Space is PotM for August;
* A link is added to the PotM page (above or below the "See previous Picks of the Month" link) that says "Nominate a game as a future Pick of the Month". This would link to a form that would submit a PM to SSH. Although there might end up being quite a few PMs to plough through, this would take some of the responsibility of choosing PotMs off SSH's shoulders. There could be a field in the form asking people to say why they are nominating the game, which would help weed out people nominating games that would be better nominated for a P3N1S award.
How does this sound?
One thing I try do do with picks of the month is choose a deserving game that hasn't got a lot of attention. Trevor has had 91 downloads so far in 5 days. Nelly has had nearly 2000 in 3 months. Both have had news items in adventuregamers.com. This maybe doesn't qualify as "not a lot of attention".
Thank you for that information, SSH. For a while I thought that you waited for the games to get AGS Awards before you reviewed them, but now I see why you recommended "Beyond the horizon". I like the way you handle this (now that I know the reasons for it) --- but deep down inside, in a part of my heart that is reserved for peg legs and parrots, eye patches and grappling hooks, and most importantly, for great point-and-click-adventures, I know I'd love to see Nelly as the pick of the month, which might catapult the game to even higher spheres of fame. On the other hand, that may just be what the AGS awards - and not the pick of the month - are there for.

I agree - instead of trying to persuade SSH to make Nelly pick of the month, let's convince him to rig the awards...
SSH, its nice to have a mix of highly downloaded games & low downloaded ones as picks. It's nice to think its a pick of quality rather than "A game you probably haven't played". Thats just my opinion. You're definitely doing well with it, but not great - cos you haven't picked Nelly!! ;) :P
I'm posting this formallly. Could i take charge on making the pick of the month and not picking my games despite being so overwhelming. Please. I'm not kidding here. I'm asking this seriously. Let me know.

I think you are a doing a fantastic job with pick of the month. This is a great way to approach what game you pick. I think so many people wanting a game for pick of the month is more reason not to pick it, that keeps it from being a popularity contest.
I think SSH has a good philosophy there. I also tried to mix my picks, and include both well known titles and those less known but well worth trying out.
I also select games that have just missed out in the Awards each year. Apart from anything, this makes it easy to find games that are good but not already recognised. So those who want Nelly to get POTM, aim for it coming second in every award!

If you make your request grammatically correct so that I can understand it, then I'll consider it...
Oops, sorry for DP

Hehe, nice one. :D I don't think there will be in awful lot of rigging necessary; Nelly is a top quality game after all. I'd assume that the awards were rigged if it
didn't get any. ;)
Maybe the pick of the month can be done by the author of the game who just got picked for that month. And so on...
Just an idea.
Since you said it yourself Andrew, I'd love to be in charge of picking the game of the month. Let me know.
Thanks for the offer Dualnames, but I think whoever takes over needs to have been a member for a bit longer and demonstrated they have the maturity and commitment to be regular and fair.
How about making the game with the most downloads in a month become the pick of the month. And to make sure that the same game doesn't become the pick of the month over and over, a game can be pick of the month only once.
Does that make sense?

That would basically counter SSH's current philosophy. If a game is already downloaded that much, it wouldn't need more attention.
