Guys!

In my shop, GameWorld:

Someone traded in Monkey Island 1 & 2 in a box, white label range. I havent the foggiest idea what price tag to put on that!

Same for Loom in a jewel case. (Talkie version)

I don't think 7th guest is worth much at all.

Also, I had Sam n Max + Day of the tentacle in at 14.99 but no one wants to buy it... made it 11.99, still no takers! Madness!
Thanks!

The White Label games are budget reissues from Virgin Interactive, as you probably know, and as such are fairly worthless (to a collector anyway). If the item is a mint condition, CD version, carboard box deal, with all manuals and such, I still wouldn't put more that £9.99 on it. If it's well used, anywhere between £0-£5, I would think.

eBay has had original issues of both games, and even then they rarely seem to go above $20-$30, but pricing things by eBay isn't the best strategy.

Same deal for Loom, really, if it's White Label, mint and packaged and in a large-size cardboard box. For the jewel version, well, £5 or under if it's mint.

If 7th Guest is the original issue version and, again, mint, then I could see a collector paying maybe upwards of maybe £10 for it.

Realistically, or if it's just the White Label version, I'd say £0-£5 again.

As for S&M/DOTT, seeing as it currently retails new for E9.99 over here, you might get more takers if it was about £4.99.

I'm just trying to be fairly realistic in my estimates, seeing as you're a retail outlet with a finite customer base.  Regardless of what somebody desperate to play these games might pay, the chances are you going to be selling them to an average Joe Soap who isn't going to pay collector-type rates for old PC games.

Still...there's not a lot of money in old adventure games, eh? :(

If 7th Guest is original boxed, I'd be interested in buying it.

ManicMatt

Thanks.

7th Guest and Loom arent budget label releases, however they're not boxed, just in jewel cases.

As with SnM/DOTT, while you can get Sam n Max new, DOTT isnt available anywhere other than ebay. (As far I can see)

Monkey Island is fairly scratched, although it appears to be working when I put the disc in the PC. I might try £7.99.

Loom I'll try 3.99 or something.

7th guest? Seems to be missing the big box. 3.99 then also!

I only gave about 2 pounds for Loom, 4 pounds for monkey island (I really didnt know how to value that despite it being budget), and about 50p for 7th guest haha!

Ah well, this game sells well new for £5.99..

(it's a game called Black Mirror. Is it any good anyone??)

LimpingFish

Black Mirror is no better than average, despite fairly high production values. Although it does have the bonus of truly, mind-blowingly awful voice acting. £5.99 is a decent price for it new, though. I've seen it in GAME for a lot more.

As for DOTT, regardless of its "rarity", I still don't see it shifting if priced over £10. The very pack we're talking about still pops up in HMV now and again, it's were I got my copy, and I've never seen it retail for more than E9.99.

£7.99 for a scratched White Label Monkey Island seems a bit steep, but I'm just speaking as a consumer.

£3.99 for the jewel case games seems fair.

Having said that, I bought a White Label jewel case copy of Toonstruck a while back, in a second-hand game shop for only E2.99. About £1.50. I got original copies of SiN and Wages of SiN for the same price. I was happy to pay it, although I doubt if I would've paid much more for them.

As I've said, though, I'm looking at this from the angle of a consumer.  ;)

In what currency ? US Dollars, English Pounds, French Francs, Martian Ghtqxylnixes ? ???

Well, actually I paid $10 to get each piece of my LucasArts collection (approximately).

Yes, that's the big problem... Those old games are simply excellent but there are so many ignorants...
Therefore it's hard to find them, and you must go on eBay and wait for an opportunity.

Oh, maybe... I've got an idea : put a computer in front of your shop and let people play those game for 5 minutes (not one more). They will all want to play more ! (Old adventure games are addictive ! ;) )

PS : I could buy Loom if the price is $0.01 to $0.05 (who said I'm avaricious ? ;D)

If it doesnt sell after a few months, I'll just drop the price perhaps. It IS both monkey islands in one box, at least.

I got toonstruck from the Hinckley branch of my company for 50p! Its the original boxed version, although not mint. Not a bad game at all!

Sorry yeah, I was talking in english pounds, Puntie.

You've seen the two games in one Fish? How strange... Ive only seen Sam N Max on its own at £9.99 in Virgin and HMV.

Yep. It's the only "purple" LucasArts reissue that isn't...reissued. If you look at all the other LucasArts reissues (Sam, Full Throttle, The Dig, Grim Fandango, Curse Monkey, Escape Monkey), they usually have 2002 or 2007 in the copyright notice. The S&M/DOTT one has 2001, the last time it was issued. It's the only one not reissued as XP compatible too, and neither game will run properly in XP.

Still, there seems to be a small stockpile of copies somewhere, because occasionally, as I said, a single copy will surface in HMV or GAME.

EDIT: Speaking of HMV and adventures, it may be just in Dublin, but if you want to buy adventure games now seems to be the time. HMV has multiple copies of: The Dig, Full Throttle, Sam and Max, Curse of Monkey Island, Escape from Monkey Island, Grim Fandango, all the Sierra collections, Agon, Scratches, Jack the Ripper 1901, Journey to the Moon, SF: Tunguska, SH: The Silver Earring, SH: Mystery of the Mummy, Keepsake, CSI, Law and Order, Broken Sword 4, Ankh, Carte Blanche, and The Longest Journey.

Who said the retail adventure is dead? :P

I couldnt find Loom on ebay. And even though MI had a bid for £10.50 on it, like Limping Fish said, "seeing as you're a retail outlet with a finite customer base".

Anyway I sold the Monkey Island pack for 7.99 the very next day!
