Oh, and yeah, a Freakazoid Adventure Game might be good... maybe in the style of Torin's Passage, but modernized in a way.

A few years ago I had an idea to do an adventure game on Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors.  Never got much past the idea stage though.  Always loved that cartoon when I was a kid.

Megamind's got more laughs than every season o' your Big Bang Bollocks put together shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

I'm with Eggie. Although there were a few good cartoons in the 80s and 90s (Darkwing Duck, Animaniacs, early Simpsons and so on), kids have it way better these days.

Grownups too, what with shows like Archer and The Venture Bros. plus a bunch of others I hear are really good and twisted.

I do miss the Disney 2D cartoon features, though. Bob Iger said they're not coming back for the foreseeable future. Booo! All this CGI shit (Tangled, Wreck-It Ralph) just isn't the same. I'll take computer-aided drawings if necessary: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xx5d23_paperman-full-animated-short-film-vo-hd_shortfilms

The series has gone bad from about 3rd season onward I agree and I've stopped watching it and for example the IT crowd did a cooler job of the subject, but still Megamind wasn't THAT good.

On the old vs new cartoons, I kind of agree. Since about middle 90s animation has been getting better and cooler, as much as it is vectorised, there's much less repeating and silly animations tricks with much more effects and even the great blend of 3d (Futurama, Simpsons, Gravity Falls, Warner DC direct to dvd movies etc. or hell even SW: Clone wars series). Characters today are in some case really developed and creative, while most of 80/90s stuff is tropes of characters and stories, either anime or western toy selling ones.
Of course there is exceptions to everything, but most of the old cartoons are held to a certain level by nostalgia, while things like Adventure time I can watch even today and still find and interesting story and a lot of dark stuff and innuendos that kids probably miss (and that older cartoons definitely don't have).

The problem with G. Tartakovsky and McCracken (and Hotel Transylvania is not really a good example of his work) is that they have become more dormant and are not such powerhouses these days even though they and WB/Spielberg/DC have brought major changes in the 90s. One thing they certainly did bring is freedom of creativity without focus on selling toys and that is great, not that everything about it was bad, but it was holding things back in some areas.

OT: all these teams fighting villains...I really don't see potential for making it an adventure game, not that it can't be done, but I think it would lose any of the charm and atmosphere the cartoons have.

Wow, there are already three people on this thread who want a Freakazoid game! Time to start a project?

An adventure game based on Ulysses 2013 would be exceptionally cool!

Neeeeeeeeeed.
PS: 2013 or 2031? :D

CaptainD

Oops yeah, 2031.  But to be released in 2013?!?!?  ???

BTW, in case anyone's still interested in Freakazoid, these could be used as loading screens:

And OMG, we can finally include Frikazette!

Throwing in some other random suggestions:
1) Darkwing Duck (there's even a sprite sheet on the Net:

2) Freaky Stories

Ducktales?  It would be pretty fun to see an adventure game based around Scrooge McDuck.

Loads of potential for a great adventure game with DuckTales... unfortunately I think the potential for legal action against such a game is a lot higher than any of the other ones already mentioned!

Just in case someone's still interested... A line of Frekazoid characters in 8 bit:

And a perfect recreation of one of the show's best moments:

Most of these are really cartoony kiddie properties.  Not that there's anything wrong with that, a lot of these were really fun when I was a kid.

I was more of a fan of Transformers, GI Joe, Thundercats, SilverHawks, Voltron, He-Man, and other stuff like that.  There are a couple of reboots worth mentioning, like the new Thundercats and GI Joe Renegades, but most fall short.

I personally think these beat anything in this thread, including Eggie's list (except maybe Adventure Time and Burton entries).  As for Disney movies, they are able to do a lot more in a visual sense these days, but aside from that the newer ones don't compare with older stuff like Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, and a few more that fell in between.  The same goes for non-Disney works, as nothing on this list compares to Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, or Secret of NYMH, except that they look really good because of modern technology.  Tartakovsky and McCracken are great, but haven't done anything as notable as Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, and Dexter's Laboratory.

Admittedly, there are a lot of cool things going on now, and the tech is incredible, and I'm very happy to see that animation is a big industry these days.  But to say that what they have now is better than what was around in the 80s and 90s is a stretch.  There's just a lot more of it, and it's better looking.  Maybe it is nostalgia, but I think it's objective analysis.

But if we're focusing on the really cartoony stuff here, let's throw Inspector Gadget, Aaahh!!! Real Monsters, Rocko's Modern Life, Ren & Stimpy, Marsupilami, the Tick, and Tale Spin out there.

Sorry if I sound a bit opinionated, but I love my cartoons.
