I have always been enamored with the Quest for Glory series and I'm disappointed that no new true adventure games in that style have come out in a long time.

I'm interested in creating an original game that would hopefully be the first in a series of games. I write in my spare time so I believe I can come up with a decent cohesive script. I know this kind of project is a very time consuming thing so I would like to recruit some help for the project. I would like to make some changes to the original concept to account for a more recent age of adventure gamers though, so 1024x768 Resolution with 32 bit graphics for Alpha transparency.

Other details then that should be decided on as a group such as graphic style and programs to use in the design. But I'm throwing ideas out there for art such as Blender or Inkscape on the table (Both Free).

So if your interested in participating please respond to this topic. Thank you!

Hmmm... didn't notice that... of course... makes me wonder if many other people saw it either... but I'll post there

That's cool, Snakeoid - it's fine here  :=

These are perfectly fine points for discussion :)

I'm interested. Would you be looking at doing another fantasty/fable style or something different, like sci-fi, or adventure(in the traditional sense), or something else?

When I think of using Blender, I think of the awesome graphics style of the longest journey. Which looks great.

Inkscape however I dont think would be suitable for backgrounds, but for cartoon style characters it could look good.

If you're serious, I've been thinking about joining a team for a while now, I can code, write, design and other stuff too :)

Stile

Yes, I'm interested in doing a Fantasy-esque style game. I looked up the longest journey and the graphics and yes they look close to what I was thinking. I would like to do a series of games that bridge together like the heroes quest series did. I also liked how the games had the same hero, but were each uniquely themed. I don't know if we can export files to translate the character from the first game to the second but I'm sure that a "passcode" option is an alternative that could be used if necessary. I would like to keep the initial classes to three or four but have the possibility of "development" later, with traditionals such as Wizard, Rogue, and Warrior.

As for Inkscape, your probably right, but it could be used to create labels or textures to wrap shapes in blender. Just a thought, not a requirement. And I am serious, I already have a website that was originally for something else, but could be easily adapted for use. it's not linked yet but the site name is www.impulsebuygames.com

And yes, it would be wonderful to be on a team with you. It's been awhile since I played with AGS, but I'm a quick study, and I also can code, write, design as well as other "stuff". And if you know of others that would be interested please let them know.

Private message me about yourself and I'll return the favor.

oh and yes, I am interested in other genres too, but one thing at a time.

Oh, but we're working on it...

Stile

While that game looks awesome and it does look like it will capture the nostalgia of the Quest for Glory games(you bet I will play it!), it's not quite what I am looking to create.

I want to create a game with a more modern look. I guess the best description would be the textures and feel of "The Longest Journey", crossed with the artistic style of o"A Vampyre Story". And bring it all together with the feel and flow of the QFG series.

How close to completion is your project?

skitt2501

Well hello! I had the exact same thought as you and I decided to try and make a QFG inspired game a few months ago. I pretty much had no experience making games, scripting, modeling, but I picked up Blender and AGS and decided to start learning. Also, being unemployed at the time helped.

So far, I haven't done much, but I have a beginning. My main problem these days is that I managed to get a job and don't have as much time to put together a big game like this. But I would love to get a group together to work on my game or a game like it. Here's a link to the "tutorial" that is what I've managed to make so far- http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7197GFHE

This game has fighter, wizard, and acrobat classes, and it's got a very similar statistics arrangement as QFG. So far, there's one fight, and I have it turn based and ridiculously simple. Like I said, I don't have experience making games or scripting, but this is a start.

I also have a general 2-3 game story plan set up, but I don't have much of the specifics down. Also, I just started playing around with fruityloops to try to make some music.

Here are some screenshots from the game, and a cool video I made with blender with some of the models I'd want to use in the game.

I know the graphics aren't fantastic- sorta early 2000's 3D- but like I said before, I just started doing this. I would love to be able to make something much prettier, and as you can see some of my recent character models are looking better.

So let me know if you'd like to help work on this. I really want to keep working on this, and getting a team together would make it much more likely this gets done!

Also, if you want to hear my general plotline send me a pm. I wouldn't want to give away any spoilers for people who might play this game when it comes out (in several years probably  :P)

Skitt2501, Thank you for sharing what you have so far.  I had a chance to look at your exe file. I agree that it is rudimentary in graphics, but you have your project much further along and I see the great potential for you in animation. I would like to pick your brain about what program you used to create the demo, and although I'm not interested in joining your team because I have a specific vision in mind, If your interested I would like to invite you to join our team.

It seems you were going for realism to the best detail you could, but I think more can be achieved in a shorter period of time if a slightly cartoonish look were the goal. Check out A Vampire Story, Runaway Series, or The Secret of Monkey Island Special edition to see the style I am referring to. I believe this make it easy to accentuate characters tying them into a slightly sardonic storyline as well as make it easier to tie all the graphics together because we all know the human model isn't easy to make and animate.

cosmiccr is already on the team as well and we are both working on parts of the vision to create a greater whole. there is plenty of work and room of course if your interested. We could even adapt the framework of what you already have if your interested.

skitt2501

That sounds great! I was trying to go for a more or less realistic look, mainly because I'm pretty untalented when it comes to art, but I completely agree with you that a game like this needs more stylistic graphics.

I'd like to know more about the project and probably join up with you guys. I wasn't getting much done on my project anyway, and I do already have a lot of the framework set up.

Stile

Do you have yahoo messenger? It might be faster to work through chat. my id is quentinmicc.

This project is just beginning but I think with the proper organization and plan we can get things moving quickly.

So tell me more about yourself..
What's your name?
Where are you located?

Stile

For those interested this project is already moving along quickly. we have ironed out some details and have a group box to pass each other information. a website is pending for the unnamed game and if you have talent and are interested in joining, you would be welcome.

Stile

This project has a name and is currently has two developers.

Project Name: Peril Quest

Looking for more talent to add to the team.

Currently, this project is using AGS and Blender. if you know these or are interested in learning, please reply to this post.
