So I've been working at a juvenile detention center lately as a corrections officer and possibly realized something. When I was a kid I loved the Police Quest games more than anything. I still love them and wish either for remakes or new installments, both of which I know probably won't happen. But I was thinking about the possibility of working some sort of prison type game, resembling Police Quest? With corrections officers doing room searches, dealing with gang problems, inmates, etc. Not sure how it would work, but it's just something I thought I'd throw out there? If you guys think its a lame idea don't be afraid to throw it out there. . .
It might work, of course, think in "Prison Break".
A shameless plug, but there already are games set in detention centres, one I know of being here (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=288). := It's nothing special, but sort of on topic... I've been toying with the idea of remaking that as a proper game, and that would involve constructing a somewhat complete schedule for the place, atleast on paper.
(Oh yeah, download link broken... thanks for reminding me. And fixed.)
As in "The Great Escape"?*
*the game, not the film
I think it's a great idea. And making a prison game where you're playing the correction officers rather than an escaping inmate is certainly original. Since the location is so restricted it would need a set of interesting and layered NPCs (inmates and other officers) that you would get to know throughout the game. You could perhaps use the character control plugin to have NPCs walking around minding their own business. Conceptually it actually reminds me a bit of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay (except for the fact that there you DID play an inmate).
In Reactor 09 you play both as an inmate and (briefly) a CO, and that was a good game. Sounds like a good concept to me!
What about a correction officer who is trying to escape?
