Problem: Can not set video mode

I downloaded a couple of games to play and I've gotten this error:

There was a problem initializing graphics mode 320x200 (16bit).
(Problem: can not set video mode)
possible causes: your graphics card drivers do not support this resolution. Run the game setup program and try the other resolution

I am not the greatest with computers but I have gone through properties and changed the game resolution to 640x480 and I still get the same error... is there any other way around this?

Try playing the games in windowed modes.
