When I try installing it I get this... >:(

(Click for larger view.)

This is an original copy that I'm trying to install from CD, not some shoddy warez.

I've tried all the usual compatibility settings and stuff. The files it's asking for seem to be on the CD.

I'm out of ideas. :(

HELP!

EDIT: I tried Vogons, but couldn't find any mention in their forums.

EDIT: I've also exhausted the error database on the InstallShield website.

EDIT: It seems I'm not the only one with this error. I wonder why it seems to install and run fine for other people on XP.  :-\

Some older applications don't like it when the installation path is too long.  ( i could be misinformed) Maybe that's it?

I think you have this error anyway...

It may actually have something to do with the installation path.

For reasons I won't go into, the WINDOWS directory on my PC is actually called WINDOWS2.
When I run the setup.exe from the CD, it creates a temp directory called WINDOWS22 in the root of C:\, and then crashes.

Don't older programs have a directory name limit of eight letters/digits? Or something? :-\

Mr Jake

I believe thats DOS-programs. Im pretty sure blade runner isn't a DOS program.

I hope you manage to sort this.. I have an itch to play blade runner now

Don't know if it's related the "16 bit error" that comes with SP2. You can read a bit more about it over at the following link

http://forums.adventuregamers.com/showthread.php371

and here:

Also, how old is the Blade Runner game? Maybe you need to choose a "Compatibility" option for an older version of Windows for when installing / running the program? Right click on the file you want to run, click "Properties", then "Compatibility" tab and try selecting a "Compatibility Mode" for an older Windows version.

Good luck.

i have the dvd edition of the game but not XP, i'm installing it on my old win98 machine now so i can get list of folders/files that might help you do a manual install.
one thing you could try in the meantime is to copy the setup folder to your hard disk and see if you can install it from there.

okay, i'm not entirely sure you'd be able to do a manual installation as there seems to be a few files created during the install that do not exist on the disc.

Thanks for the advice, everybody. :)

Babarian: No, it's not that error unfortunately. And I've tried the compatibility test, but with no luck.

BOYD: Yeah, I thought of that too. Good idea with the manual install, but it does seem to create a specific sub-folder and file set that can't be manually replicated.

I'm trying the latest version of Microsoft's Application Compatibilty Toolkit, to see if it can determine what the foul-up is, but I have little hope it'll divulge anything spectacular.

I really think it's down to some InstallShield conflict, but nothing from their knowledge base seems to help.

Oh well... :(

Thanks again.

EDIT: LimpingFish runs the Application Compatibility Toolkit...

Wow, I'm way out of my depth here. ::)
