I hope that I am posting this in the right topic...

It has been brought to my attention that there are people out there who would rather see the Space Quest games upgraded versus just renovated. Seeing as this is the case, is there anyone out there that would be interested in generating some new music and graphics for this project? At the moment, we are still working on the first game.

Please feel freee to come over to our forums at http://www.bpcent.com/sq/remakes and then click on the forums link. :)

I'm afraid I couldn't make head or tail of your website.

Am I correct to assume that by 'upgrading' you mean improving graphics and music (like Tierra's KQ1VGA) and by 'renovating' you mean redoing the storyline as well (like Tierra's KQ2+)?

If so, do you seriously propose to redo the entire Space Quest series, as your webpage suggests? And if so, please elaborate a bit.

Alright. I want to go from the shitty 2-dimensional games to the 3-dimensional games, like Everquest. I would like to upgrade the story a little bit, give Roger more of a logical part and then to expand on the maps, like giving the Arcada a Bridge.

I would like to remake the entire series, but at the moment, that is more of an eventual goal than a reality. At the moment, I just want to assemble a team, have the team pick which one to remake and then go from there.

The top right of our site has six little oval buttons. The second one on the left column reads Forums. Use that one for the moment. Staff is just about us staffers. :)

Lemme know if you need more elaboration and feel free to make use of the SQR Forums if you would prefer to clutter my system versus the AGS system. ;)

As an avid SQ fan and adventure game fan, this statement makes me cringe.

I wouldn't mind seeing a graphically updated SQ, mayber even a digitized music upgrade based strongly on the current music...but changing the plot and adding rooms?

I say if it ai broke, don't fix it.

But in any event, good luck with the project.

Actually I won't mind a new and original game inspired by the SQ series (or a new fan game, like NOTH for example), but if you're going to make a fan "upgrade" of a game it should be carefully thought over, not only because of the changes, but also other factors such as: can you keep the original feeling? (or, should you change it?) Will the plot and story go too far apart from the original? Etc. Problem is, fan games are, most of the time, make by fans - for fans, chances are, if you changed too much, that made the game too different from the original, most fans won't like it and consider the "upgrade" ruined the original.

There're lots of example, even in official upgrades (which most of the time only upgraded the system and graphics and such, and with little changes), like LSL1VGA for example which was a total shame. (There're good examples like SQ1VGA and QFG1VGA though).

Moreover, if you make an original game you don't need to care about copyrights and the like. ;)

Of course there're exceptions, like for example the fan AGS upgrade of KQ2VGA, but I think it was very carefully designed so most people didn't dislike it, even though things were changed and added (I never played either the new one or the original, so I couldn't tell), but still there're some fans who will like the original more.

There are several SQ fangames made (SQ0, SQ:TLC) or in the works (SQVM, SQ7, SQ7). You may want to consider looking into them for atmosphere issues. Like Gilbot says, making changes to the original is something to be done very carefully. And that includes moving to 3-d - it's just not adventure gamish imho.

Also, I think you should seriously think about the amount of time required to remake even one game (let alone seven). For a SQ-sized game, a year or two is a reasonable estimate.
