Records in AGS Games

I know this sounds pretty silly but I noticed that no one haven't yet talked about records in the AGS games. I mean, we all know about the Guinness Recordbook there are records about all kinds of stuff, from collections to stunts, celebs to everything, and yet no one ever have talked about something for AGS, like the most characters in a AGS game or the most awarded games or things like that.

I think we should do an AGS version of the Guinness so we can keep track of the records and confirming breaking of records and so on.

If the AGS Forums have the AGS version of the Academy Awards, why not having an AGS version of Guinness too?

I support this interesting idea. And while I really can't be arsed to actually hunt for such records in any game, I offer to share my collection of AGS games (I think I can safely say that I have most AGS games, except for the truly older ones) to anyone who wishes to actually find records.

The idea is a bit interesting but I doubt if our scale is large enough to adopt such thing. (in other words, I'm not for it.)

Currently we have awards, competitions, etc., which in my opinion already contribute enough to the community.

Considering the fact that Guinness or other world records cover a large area of interests, like sports, food, etc., compared to a game making/playing/love/hate community here.

Also, I'm rather concerned on the fact that though some of the world records may be good ideas, more than 80% of them were just craps, created and broken by idiots who want to show off without any practical reasons (take Guinness for example), I'm afraid if we have adopted a record thingie these will happen (definitely):
"Hey Hey! Try my game Poulty Land! There're 1000 characters wandering in the world for no particular reason!"
"Yewho! Look! I used 1000 rooms for this awesome game, 99% of which were used for displaying texts like 'meanwhile...'!"
"Heck! No one can beat this RPG I created! There're 10000 rooms, 10000 characters, 20000 weapons, 5000 bg midis, and 200 multi-level dungeons, 100 levels each!"
...
Though there may still be people who are really concerned about their games, I can see some of them will already be diverted towards breaking those silly records, and most of these records don't mean anything important.
It's a bit like the old time when we had different titles according to our post coutns, that made some of the members flooded the forum with stupid replies.

Mmm... yeh sounds like a good idea. I think that i would definitely be the winner of 'Least Announced Games Actually Completed' haha. Yeh, like i said, good idea.

This does dip into another interesting idea: Best of..

We've got the annual awards (Both the more official and the more tongue-in-cheeck).  Why not a vote (perhaps re-voted upon every year or semi-annually) for best of categories.  It seems like it'd be a great way for newbies to see what AGS has to offer.  Some categories might be: Best artwork, most brilliant puzzles, most well-scripted, best GUI, most innovative, etc.  It's not so very different from the awards in place except that the gems of previous years don't get lost in the flow of time.

Here's a record for you.... AGS: The adventure game engine with the most Adventure games created ever.

Err.. I might be wrong, but I doubt it. Maybe AGI and SCI might come close and SCUMM, but I checked out the games page and there are like 538 pages with 10 games/demo's/sort of apps on each page. Surely this must be a record.

I think there should be some sort of reward for creating games other than the AGS Awards.  They seem to come and go really quickly, and I at least tend to forget about them for a few months at a time.  What about some other way of rewarding good games, maybe a sort of rating (stars?) below the avatar that show how popular games are or something.  A way to distinguish newer or less adept members from the older, more adept maybe?

I was talking about AGS games, not Adventure games in General.

Yakspit and SimB: I see what you mean but that's not within the realm of Records for the AGS games.

Actually, I thought you were talking about both Games made with AGS and their records and Records that AGS holds. Thats why I said that AGS is probably the engine with the most games ever created for an adventure engine.
