Hi, this is a bit of an odd request, but if anyone out there owns a copy of The 11th Hour, would it be possible to grab a screenshot of the uncompleted sliding block puzzle for me? It's in part two (aka hour 8) of the game, in Ed Knox's room on the second floor, in the mirror. Thanks!
I think it'd be easier for you to google for the game and try to find that shot in a walkthrough...
can you still run that thing under xp?
That shot isnt in Google, sadly. Looks like someone with the game will need to try and provide it.
I checked image search engines and walkthroughs first; but no go. Most of the walkthroughs online are text. Will it work under XP? Good question - if it relies on DOS instead of Windows, DosBox might be able to handle it.
i used to have the game (i actually might still do, i haven't looked) and i know it runs under win98, but i never got up to a slider puzzle, the last one i remember doing was the cash register one which i did on my first try by accident but forgot to save and then could never do it again :-\
The puzzle is randomly generated, so the beginning layout is different each time. This also means that about 50% of the time the puzzle will be unsolvable. So if you're having bad luck- try again!
Man... that's slack coding...
[LIES]Ah, I do love unsolvable puzzles[/LIES]
Well, I got it. Had to download the whole thing through bittorrent, then burn two CDs, then figure out how to get the damn thing to work. It was DOS-based, but used that weird Vesa full-motion video mode of the time. Had to set the right sound settings, and the video came out all scrambled, but the game itself finally seemed to work when I ran it on my old Win98 machine, as long as I told it play in DOS mode and ignore Windows. Then I found out I couldn't do a regular screengrab with it. Then I found out that the slider puzzle, once I reached it - you're shining your flashlight on it, so the lighting of the pieces looks completely different depending where they're positioned at any given time. Luckily, luckily there were game docs provided, and mentioned Trilobyte had a built-in screengrab function. Pressing F12 would save a JPG, with some game logos added, but luckily not in the center of the picture.
Ugh. Never again.
Let's see it then. :=
Okay, here it is! Now I know what you're thinking, why even bother in the first place? I have my reasons, but at this time I'm not willing to explain them, except that it involves satire.
