Title: Research on PCs
Post by: dimidimidimi on Tue 13/04/2004 11:11:54
We are developing a 3D point and click adventure game called Sealed Lips and we would like to have some feedback from gamers. Our questions concern the PCs you use to play games. You could be of great help if you answered the following questions.

1) What processor do you use?

2) What graphics card do you use?

3) How much RAM does your computer have?

4) What operating system do you use to play games?

5) Do you think you are going to upgrade your system or buy a new one within the next two years?

6) (If upgrade) What part of your system do you plan to upgrade?

Thank you in advance

Aushor your selling your self short with a celron???? You already have a pentium why cripple your computer???? If your looking for price check Athlon XPs there much more reliable than Pentuims IMO especially in XP..... You can build your own for as little as 500 bucks providing you reuse your old floppy, cdrom, and video......

Dude I hope your not getting a Dell!

You can't have a P4 450MHz, m0ds. The slowest P4 was something like 1+GHz.

My PC:

1) Pentium 4 3.40GHz Hyperthreaded.

2) GeForce FX 5200 with 128Mb RAM.

3) 1 Gb of 3200 DDR.

4) Windows 2000 with SP4.

5) I upgraded my PC less than 2 weeks ago, but certain parts of it might need upgrading again soon.

6) Graphics card, if anything.

NO! Whatever you do, do not choose Windows XP over Windows 2000. 2K is far superior to XP.

Of course, the self-selecting nature of replies to this thread might bias the results of the survey in favour of higher-end machines as people with powerful PCs are maybe more liekly to want to brag about them?  ;D

In which case, to offset this, I'll add the most rubbsih PC I own:

Pentium 120, No idea, 16Mb RAM, Windows 95, no, no

or if you'd consider other platforms:

Spectrum (4Mhz Z80 processor), Specc GFX, 48K RAM, Spectrum BASIC, no, no

As much as i love today's high performace computers. There is one computer that will always have a special place in my heart.

The Tandy 1000.

That was an amazing machine for its time, and the first computer i ever used to write my own adventure games in BASIC.

I used to use an old program called Micro-Illustrator to draw my graphics in and then import them to BASIC, so i could use them in my games.

I'm thinking about looking on Ebay to find one of them.

Oh, how i miss it.  :(

Dude, I still have one in my basement. My dad brought it home when I was 7, the Tandy 1000 is what I taught myself how to type on, my first computer I used BASIC on... I feel you. Ours had an "optional upgrade" of a 20 meg HDD for like, a trillion bucks. Fortunately my dad was a previous generation geek.

C'mon Czar, where's your sense of Nostalgia?

Todays computers are great and all, but sometimes they just don't compare to the innocence of the early computer era.

Without the computers of the good 'ol days, where would computer technology be now.

Damn, i still use Radio Shack computers at work.

They may be ancient, but they get the job done.

and as for the C64, didn't that thing hook up to a television set?  Because my friend many years ago had one, and i just remember playing with the C64 on the TV.

Yeah...
i know. i remember the times where 7 of us would get infront of the Amiga 500 ( i know its a bit higher compared to teh ZX and C 64..) and we would put Mig 29. Then we would pretend that we are all in that jet, but we could never start that damn thing. Tho once we moved a wing to the left.
That started a massive euphoria amongst us. It could last for hours... Aaahhh.
You're right.
