I have two ideas:
1. (was mentioned in the previous post called "Review, reviews, reviews...". Change "AGS Panel review..." to "Member of AGS panel...". Otherwise is misleading
2. When no one cares about that AGS Panel rating, why don't you remove it?

As mentioned, the reloaded review was also just by 1 person, yet we still all call it a "reloaded review" and not "review of a member of the reloaded team". I don´t think I´ve ever seen a printed review of a game by multiple people who were part of a group.
MOST reviews ARE done by single people, and are representative of the thing they reviewed it for. A review in PC Gamer would be called a "PC Gamer Review", and not "A review from a member of PC Gamer", yet it will not be the entire PC Gamer crew that reviewed that game, just one person.

That previous thread could have easily been "Hey look, guys, I´ve been featured in reloaded!", and most people (if they weren´t nasty, and didn´t let the past factor into their opinions) would have been happy for you.

We released one record which received one particularly apathetic review but we didnt go round burning the magazine and withdrawing the record or writing letters to the editor, which is essentially what youre doing.

The popularity of your game speaks for itself. I wouldn´t know, but I´m sure it has many many downloads. You´ve been reviewed a number of times.
EVEN many people in AGS enjoy it.
Do you think your game is so awesome that for someone to dislike it would be impossible? Because there will always be SOMEONE who doesn´t like it. I don´t remember exactly, but you even got long detailed posts in the games thread as to why some people didn´t like it.
But why does that matter to you?
The best you can do is move on and improve your stuff. I think you did this.

Is your ego so hurt by the Panel score (or is it the review?). As Vince pointed out, most people don´t factor that stuff into their games. It is mostly there for classification and categorisation. There are a lot of popular games that didn´t get a high score. Perhaps the AGS Panel factors things such as spelling and typos and "exits hard to find", more than reloaded does.
Harg, explain to me why is Frodo (which I really like so, no pun or anything intended) is better than the AGS panel. And how one person review is good, when you say that it's not if its done by the panel! And why do you even start a topic in which you say the panel sucks when you give a review of CQ I, that actually got three cups and it's not your problem!

But seriously, Harg,your strategy works. I would really like to play your next game NOW! I'd probably give away one of my toes just for a single screenshot. My advice to you, crank up the stuck up asshole factor even more and it will only make your games more popular. After all, it's too late to shake this bad image off and everyone will take your new project apart to find faults. It will be like watching Britney Spears live on X Factor and waiting for her to slip ( she didn't unfortunately; it was all lip-sync...). I can't wait, to be honest, but not in a nasty way. I think an idea of a game developer who is generally totally hated ( well, except for those PMs you get all the time) creating an ass-kicking game that will leave members of this community with their jaws on the floor, is extremely exciting and could be something that has never happened before!:) fair enough, you might need a miracle to achieve that... but I do believe in miracles.
Right now, I am seriously considering taking on a Harg-like alterego on these forums and making a little game that will be put ina similiar spotlight.... Of course, none of you would know it's me.... There have been situations were I disagreed with the AGS panel and other times were I agreed with them. As with every other reviewing site out there. Opinions are always going to differ, and you cannot forbid people to have them or enforce your own point of view.
I'm sure many people played and enjoyed your games. And those that didn't... well, it's their own loss, isn't it? Making a big fuzz about the rating just gives you and your games a bad image that they probably don't deserve.

How about you just be happy that "everyone" except the panel reviewer thinks the 3rd part is the best? Sure, it sucks when some people don't appreciate your hard work as much as you'd like but it's far more important to me that at least someone likes it.

But that's just it. Different reviewers look for different things in their games, so its not just a laundry list of things you can change to automatically get a higher rating. That's particularily true for gameplay and puzzles. Graphics and sound are more objectively measurable I guess, but even there people prefer different styles.
In the end you should make the games YOU enjoy. If others like them too, great. But depending on universal approval by strangers on the internet... well, good luck with that. It's maybe not the best road to retain one's sanity. Just my two cents...

To my knowledge when searching for games on AGS you can't sort by user rating, which many people seem to think is more useful. I would agree with this but then the user rating doesn't usually differ much from the panel rating. I mean ANTR got 2 cups and is at like 60% overall enjoyment, Seems about even. Anyway, I think it would be nice to be able to sort by user ratings as well.

Me personally, I enjoy getting negative reviews. Not to say that I don't like being told someone liked my game, but when someone says 'it was fun' it helps me quite a bit less than. 'I hated the game because of... x,y and z' If you don't think that anyone else's opinion matters then the fact is that you will not improve much. I wish you luck though.

In my latest game, I was given 2 cups by the panel which is "A reasonable game, worth a try."
Why is this offensive?
Not to mention that on the new site, the players' cup rating is in view as well as the panel's. This is how it is:
Some people really liked my game, while others didn't. Although I was aiming for a surreal environment, the puzzles were just too outlandish. However, I was voted up a lot in atmosphere.
Now, the panel does its job, it decides based on certain criteria just how well the game works in ALL aspects of the adventure game genre. In this sense, we were given 2 cups overall.
Now, when a player comes along and says "Well, I really didn't like X about this game, but I LOVED Y"! They generally rate the overall experience up, resulting in a higher player rating, which makes you look good as well.
So: as long as your players are happy...what's it matter? :P

Anyways- even if the panel gives you a low rating there is also the community rating... I'm sure McDonalds woulds get a Michelin star (Critic Review) but they probably rate pretty high in the Zagat review (Populist Review.)

If you are so interested in what I'm doing... I'm watching chess (world championship). I don't use Bryce. Cosmos Quest rating in Reloaded is just fine...
You really should start using Bryce, it's probably one of the most accessible 3D Generators available; especially for landscapes and simple geometry.

I started to use 3dStudioMax. Actually I'm using Bryce only for sky. Its really very good for that.

Here's what i suggest:
Firstly you need to complain ALOT.. people will find it endearing and love your open, honest nature. That's sure to make you game better by at least 1 cup.
Secondly you need to make sure that you remove your game from anywhere which is staffed by uneducated philistines that dont see how great you are. It's their fault not yours.
Thirdly you need to keep raising the point over and over again, even if the discussion has died down. It only SEEMS like no one gives a shit, in fact people lie awake at night wondering about the glory of the great Cosmos Quest franchise.
Forthly, If people do criticise you, just put it down to jealousy.
Lastly I suggest you get your mum to put all your drawings on the fridge and get her to tell you how amazing you are on a daily basis. Because we all know its true.
