"Described as -- and you'll want to sit down for this -- "the perfect melding of a Monkey Island style adventure game with the wicked RPG game play of Diablo," Ron Gilbert's latest creation has been revealed to be an episodic title dubbed "DeathSpank: Episode 1: Orphans of Justice.""

Sounds great, a "mainsteam" adventure game is long overdue. Looking forward to it! :)
Blood... rushing... to... groin... area...
Yes, I came across this news yesterday and my jaw dropped a bit. I also found out that he's helping out with the Penny-Arcade game, but I don't know to what capacity.
As long as it's not exactly like Diablo... sounds quite a bit promising, but not like the kind of news that would mess with my blood flow. Sorry.
Hearing "Ron Gilbert", "Monkey Island", "Adventure/RPG" makes me all fuzzy inside, but it's the "Diablo" part I worry about. The game will need bucketload of awesomeness to compensate for a 1 millions mouse clicks, item, gold and XP grinding gameplay.
Sounds pretty intriguing... But the image doesn't impress me, oh well, I shall see when it's finished. I hope the game won't look as boring as the poster.
Yeah, the poster's a bit on the "College Kid's Webcomic" side.
It has that distinct "Alien Hominid" flavor to it.

According to Gabe and Tycho he's to make sure that the game "is playable" and "oozes style". So I think his position is that of a Playbility-Ensurer and Style-Oozer.
No, seriously, he's rumoured to be involved in the general design and especially the plot/cutscenes. Had a link to a relevant PA section once, will put it up when I find it again.
Sorry in advance to the fanboys, but I will withhold any excitement until I see a product. Right now I'm not terribly impressed by a monkey island/diablo concept with really bland poster art :|.
Looks cool! Though personally I'd prefer to have read this;

:p
Can't say the RPG element really tickles my fancy. But anything by Ron is worth a go :D

According to Gilbert, adventure puzzles are intended to replace grinding. (Though to what extent exactly the game will be Diablo-esque then I'm not sure, since that's really all Diablo is...?)
Maybe he intends to make it puzzle-grinding instead. Wouldn't that be such an improvement.
