I'm not talking about pathetics attempts of a game, but of game that have a sad storyline, maybe gloomy ambiance and so.
So, any sad games around?
Well, there is a pretty sad game about a lady who likes cats... But what was the title again... :P
Cross Stitch Casper is pretty sad.
In the order of me recalling them:
Apprentice 1 and 2 had some really touching scenes that I found very-very heartwrenchingly sad and I gladly admit to shedding some tears.
How They Found Silence is quite melancholic at the very least. An excellent game too, you definitely shouldn't give it a miss if you're after sadder stuff.
Technobabylon series is dramatic and has plenty of sad stuff.
Mind's Eye is a drama plain and simple. Plenty of sadness.
Emily Enough and Merry Christmas Alfred Robbins are more grim than sad, but still, probably fit the bill fully.
PISS is also a drama so there's some sadness to be found as well.
McCarthy Chronicles has a dark and gloomy overall style.
I remember there being some really moving moments in Adventure The Inside Job too, even though it's quite optimistic overall.
Primordia also has a generous share of sad moments and is an amazing game.
And yeah The Cat Lady has more than enough sadness and is also a wonderful clever game.
sorry - it's not AGS (http://www.smileyvault.com/albums/userpics/12962/rotwerd.gif) - so I deleted it (http://www.smileyvault.com/albums/userpics/12962/delete.gif)
This one (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/site/games/game/140/) stands out to me.
And let's not forget the surrealist stuff like Dada: Stagnation in Blue or Captain Muchly Drinks Bleach. Keptosh: The search for junc has quite depressing atmosphere, too.

I was going to mention the same game ("voir la mer et mourir")
Non AGS games...
- Quantum Gate I: Noone dreams here
- I have no mouth and I must scream. I remember playing this when it came out. I read the short story aswell; it captures very well the ambiance of the text. Gorrister story is kool
Eternally us?
+1 on Cross Stitch Casper. That is a game that's really touching at times, especially if you find a certain "hidden scene".
Featherweights had some really thoughtful moments, too. You know, where you have your hand on the mouse and wanted to click at something and then suddenly your brain catches up with the text? Yes, sort of like that.
And then CartLife; several storylines there really deal with bottom-feeders who have a hard life; it may not be a "sad game" but one where you care for the characters, often a lot.

I feel the short story works better at showing the tragic fates and generally depressing setting. The game (in comparison) was quite heavy-handed and had a *lot* of fridge logic backfiring at you. Still worth playing, though; the concept is unique.
I am still sad reading about the reason why Matt to the Future never became a full game, only a demo.
I just finished Mourir en mer; it has no sound, or my computer just sucks.
Good game tho. Thanks for the suggestion.
I tried Cartlife earlier, like last year. It's somewhat hard. heh
So you are not only asking for AGS games?
Then I can throw this one in again:

The story will make you cry – so lovely sad and emotional!
And Laura Shigihara singing the main song "Everything's Alright" (http://youtu.be/t7dRTIhvqG8) is ... (http://www.smileyvault.com/albums/userpics/12962/good-sigh.gif)
btw. The game isn't RPG – its more an easy point & click adventure that tells an extremly touching story.

Instant awesome, just add Laura (nod) . True, that *is* a game to recommend.

But... but I thought you said "not pathetic attempts of games"!

And why is it cool?

If only for that.
Eternally Us. All of Ben 304's games are memorable but that one was really outstanding.

I am mainly looking for "sad" games from AGS due to my poor CPU processor. But also one can slip non old AGS games aswell.
I played IHNMAIMS when it was published, in the middle of the adventure game fever. I was 13 years old at the time and although I find that game highly glitched today, it still leaves with a good memory.
Gorrister story is almost a complete spinoff directed by Harlan Ellison. Some of the puzzles were kinda forced but the ambient is very good. The dialogs and monologue from Gorrister are very arid and the plot adds up alot to that sense of general solitudeness.
Anyways I tried the Casper game, that was cool also! I mislooked it at the time because of those strange graphics.

Ah, spend a while here and you will start
seeking out games because of the strange graphics.
I second Eternally Us (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/site/games/game/1303/). Short, sad, brilliantly executed. Even thinking about it makes me heavy-hearted, it left a deep impression on me.
Each time I stumble upon this thread (well, twice probably) I can't help thinking about this sketch:

The Legend of the Lost Lagoon, The Forgotten Element, and Leitor's Edge are all pretty sad, because I'll never get to play them.
The Marionette. Can't remember if it was the game, or a "why did I decide to cut onions while reading this post?" reply about how the game touched on events that actually happened to said person. Either way, after I'd played the game and read through the comments section feels were had.
