From what I understand, SCI studio 4, (the program that opens, edits, & creates official Sierra games), will be out in a couple of months. So late in the game, this is the first release to support VGA & SVGA, I don't think it will EVER be an AGS contender, but it will be exiciting to easily "BORROW" sound fx & official/original templates from the best Sierra titles.
I have a feeling SCI studio 4 will become, instead, an incredible AGS resource. One could extract their favorite frontend to use with their games; adding authentic MIDI sound effects.
If you want to follow its progress check below -

Really? Last month I read something in their forums that kinda crushed hopes of ever seeing a SCIStudio... and now you say it's only a matter of a coupla months? Great news! Thanks for sharing!
God?! :( I hope not
I just saw a, relatively, new "Screen Savers" episode that discussed it; saying the project was still moving. "We'll see it, hopefully, in a couple of months" was their end statement.
However - they didn't talk to anyone ON the project. It is possible they didn't do enough research.
That would REALLY suck :'(

It's not conclusive, naturally, but it IS suggestive, unfortunately.
This is a little off topic, but by posting I feel I have some responsibility in this.
DO NOT......DO NOT.... send money if you believe it will be released. The creator asks for money, but he's NOTHING like Chris Jones. He will NOT contact you, answer your questions, check the forums, or give you status updates.
I would give $1,000 dollars, (or pounds - I guess), to AGS before SCI studio got 1 red cent, & Chris won't even allow us to support AGS financially.
There was some controversy a while back where the creator claimed if you sent money you would get the VGA beta. Lots of people sent money, the creator took it, kept it, & didn't send the supporters ANYTHING?!?!?!
.....Just thought this post should come with a warning - some people would support anything that "appears" warranted.

NNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooo.......
...
...you Judas.
SCI studio 4, a couple of months??? that's almost the funniest thing I've heard, I remember hearing that a few years ago.
I'm not really waiting for it, but it will be interesting to check out if it's ever released (as a final version)
What's the big deal about SCI studio 4 really? I've been following the development for years, but in the end, will anyone actually use it? Most people just want it as a ripper tool for Sierra sprites, so why not just make that? We've had ripper tools for LucasArts games forever. Why program a whole script editor/compiler just to rip some graphics?
Well, WE will only use it for that... but it's really a development tool in itself. Whether anyone USES it as such, now, that I don't know.
Me, I used to want to remake Sierra games so they could be run on XP, like Phantasmagoria 2 or Gake Knight... but now that I found out how to make them run, I kinda lost interest.

The realisation of that fact is probably what has lead to the diminishing motivation that the guy has to finish it.
I have great news:
Quote from: SCI StudioSCI Studio VGA Archive Released
Here it is!
I've finally gotten around to releasing the SCI Studio VGA stuff, source code, and template. I had become busy with other things, including work, as well as exploring other areas of game and hardware development. For to pure sake of becoming a well rounded developer, I couldn't just put all my energy towards one project. However, I didn't want to release SCI Studio VGA until it was completed, but was always just too busy with these other things to get around to doing just that. As a result, it sat collecting virtual dust for a number of years. I sincerely regret this, and wish I had just posted it a long time ago. Better late than never though!
I'm releasing this all as FULL PUBLIC DOMAIN! No GPL or other licenses! You are free to do absolutely anything you wish with it. Distribute it! Modify it! Play with it! Learn from it! (The exception being the SynEdit syntax highlighting component, which was developed by other developers, and uses another license already). It comes with no warranty or support though, it's in your hands now!
SCI Studio VGA has support for viewing all versions of SCI, including SCI32 and LSCI, though because the code was still development, two different exes needed to be compiled, one for LSCI, and one for support of others. A simple code modification could be done to make it support them all in one, but that's the state it's in right now.
The VGA template game for SCI Studio VGA is mostly complete, but not entirely. You'll need the SCI Studio VGA script compiler to do anything with it (included in the SSVGA source code), and LSL1VGA, the interpreter which it's based on. It surely can be tweaked to work on others, but it's in your hands now to do so!
Enjoy!

Can someone please compile it, as I don't have Borland C++ compiler. I'd love to see it run in action!

You can find the compiled file inside BIN directory. ;D ;D
QuoteYou act like a stupid. Brian. He is also an athlete, and he prefers to spend time working out his body in the gym, rather than programming SCI Studio for free. I have a parent who is a programmer and I know how hard must have been to make such a big program.
QuoteDO NOT......DO NOT.... send money if you believe it will be released. The creator asks for money, but he's NOTHING like Chris Jones. He will NOT contact you, answer your questions, check the forums, or give you status updates.
This makes me really sad. Brian is a really nice guy. I sent him money and he sent me a beta version of this program a few years ago. I didn't ask for or expect anything for my money though. That's not the point of donating to a person like Brian or Chris. I would give Chris money because I appreciate what he has already done for me. Not for what I would expect him to do for me in the future. My understanding is that this is the very reason Chris does not accept money. One other note, we should be nicer to Brian, whenever anyone complains about features or difficulty in SCI Studio he points them to AGS.
DCillusion, I don't mean this to be a flame at you :-*. I don't know how your experience with Brian was. I'm just asking you to not judge so harshly. Some people don't choose to make a project like SCI Studio or AGS their life. Luckily for us Chris has, but I don't think it's fair to measure another persons effort by the god like qualities of our Chris Jones :).
