Will anyone ever finish VGA support for SCI Studio? Or possibly SCI Companion? The former can open newer SCI games but can't save any edits that are attempted on them. Come to think of it, can ANY program edit SCI VGA files?

I think it's unlikely, but we can only speculate. The source is available, so it's certainly possible. Interestingly, I just learnt today that Brian Provinciano went on to do Retro City Rampage.

Can't even touch the .tex files in Police Quest 3 - I tried! I don't know how that kind of .tex file can be opened.

If I recall correctly, those are plain text files with a simple XOR cipher.

Well I've had a look, and it turns out there's a way to edit them after all. It involved importing them into SCI Companion as a .msg, editing it like normal, and then exporting it as a .tex. Comes to the same difference in the end! :)

Old thread, but I wanted to let people know that SCI Companion 3 has been released, and it provides full support for creating VGA SCI games:
