Costume Ripper is for ripping animations.

Scumm Revisited is for backgrounds.

To use Scumm Revisited you will just have to open up the .001 or .002 file and search through the tree for the Room "branch". There you will find backgrounds.

Can you use Costume Ripper for any view in the game such as the pirate spinning on the anchor in the Scummbar in MI1?

I am about 90% positive yes.

However, I imagine there is a slim chance that for some reason certain animations are not there. As far as I know everything is though.

No. It is considered part of the background, therefore you cant rip it with a costume ripper, but you can with SCUMM Revisited.

If you just want character sprites alone then? I reffer to the game Night of the Hermit in which have a sprite of Guybrush Threepwood, who isn't animated at all.
