Title: ScummVM Wintermute merging?
Post by: Greg Squire on Thu 07/11/2013 20:46:04
Hey I noticed this bit of news from ScummVM today. http://scummvm.org/news/20131105/ (http://scummvm.org/news/20131105/)

Does anyone know what this means exactly? Are the engines merging? Or is ScummVM just now using Wintermute as it's base engine (meaning Scumm scripting on top of Wintermute)?

"Hey, you got Scumm in my Wintermute! No you got Wintermute in my Scumm!"  :-D

It's a Wintermute-engine port for ScummVM

There was one for AGS too for more than a year now.

Oh I think I see it now. They want to be able to show and play Wintermute games within ScummVM (not just Scumm games). Sounds like they are doing something similar with AGS. Cool!

ScummVM hasn't been just for Scumm games for many years (most notably, it also supports Sierra AGI and SCI games). If you look at the compatibility chart (http://scummvm.org/compatibility/), you'll see that the LucasArts and Humongous games made with Scumm make up only a small proportion of all the games playable with ScummVM.
