Title: Search for sanity
Post by: Cyrus on Sat 02/12/2006 15:24:24
Some years ago Funky Duck presented a game called "Search for sanity". They promised a truly super game with interesting plot, amazing graphics and music, etc. I was very intrigued - and many other people visiting AGS, as I believe, were too. Now, as many of you can see (just visit the site - http://koti.mbnet.fi/ygolonac/funkyduck/?), the game's developing got stuck and there's no news about it. I would like to speak to the people who has known about the game and were interested, as I was. Some of you may know something else about it - the plot (more concrete than the one that has been explained at Funky Duck site), some other details, etc. I also would be very glad to speak to Funky Duck team. Please, answer!

This isn't a team or project I'm particularly familiar with... Did you click on the team page?

http://koti.mbnet.fi/ygolonac/funkyduck/?About

I've never heard of this project, nor do I recognise any of the team members names as people who visit the Talk & Chat forum. So, I suggest you try dropping them an email :)

Demo: http://koti.mbnet.fi/ygolonac/funkyduck/?Downloads

Other than that, I really can't find any other posts, news, comments or websites relating to this team or game on this board or using Google :(

Actually, the AGS user named Mikko might be working on this. Strangely enough, the url on his avatar and the images from his signature come from this site (I'm not sure if they're on the site, but they might be on the url).

Http://koti.mbnet.fi is a common domain in Finland. It's used by anyone who has acquired MBnet webspace. Just because the domain is the same doesn't mean it's coming from the same site. Mikko's site has the extension 'paajanen' while these guys have 'ygolonac'. Furthermore, just because there's a Mikko on the team doesn't mean that our Mikko is involved :). Mikko is a very common name in Finland, and judging by our Mikko's extension, I wager his name is Mikko Paajanen, which is very different from the dude in this team.

On-topic: The sketches look good. I'm looking forward to the finished versions :).

From what I can remember they said they would have to pause development for a while due to military service, which is mandatory in Finland. After that I haven't heard anything about it, so I'm going to guess it's abandoned.

On the topic, I remember seeing that site in the past too.

Nothing to report though, since like ildu already described, there are various reasons why I'm not the same person as the Mikko @ Funky Duck. :)

Abandoned?:( I hope not. Maybe it's just frozen?

Well, these are the two team members I could find in the members list:

Kosm (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?action=profile;u=285)
Tarantula (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?action=profile;u=286)

Last active 2003 and 2004 respectively. If they're still developing the game they're sure keeping quiet.

I've just heard they had stopped to develop this game... Maybe they are just having a break.

I loved that demo. Played it to pieces (all of what you could do in it :S)

Wow, I'm surprised someone still remembers this project.

I did the graphics and the music for Search for Sanity. Unfortunately the project died a long time ago due to several reasons... Mostly because of bad planning and lack of time and/or interest from some of the team members.

However, I've been working alone for about two years on another project called Fester Mudd & the Curse of the Gold. It's going to be a full-length game and about 30%-40% is done. My plan was to keep my mouth shut about it until I'd reach 50%, but I couldn't resist after seeing this thread. I'll post a new thread about the game on the Games in Production board soon.

I'm very glad to hear this, but about SFS... Is it dead forever or just frozen? And what is the role of asylim in the plot?

SFS is dead. Frankly, I can't really remember the plot too well anymore... except that it was a terrible mess :) We threw different kinds of ideas in the air and in the end we couldn't really decide which way to go. SFS wasn't planned well, which is why I planned my current project as carefully as I could before starting to actually work on it.

About Fester Mudd... Is it going to use some ideas from SFS or to be a completely different kind of game?

It's a completely different game. I'll post about it on the Games in Production board very soon.

I'll be waiting... And what has inspired you to create SFS?

As far as i can remember there isn't anything much you can do in the demo, puzzle wise.

Look at everything, speak to everyone, get a coin - is it all?

As far as I can remember, that's pretty much it... We did develop the game further than that, but there wasn't much to do in the demo.

Heh, sounds like Leitor's Edge. I've planned on getting everything down plot-wise, story-wise and puzzle-wise (most anyway) before starting further on the actual physical work myself as well. The game's changed so much since the beginning it would have ended up the same as SFS if I made it as I went - which was what I was doing in the start.

I reconized SFS as soon as I saw the subject line. I remember the demo, everything about it rocked all ass. Too bad it's dead :(

And good luck with your project, btw, and hope to see info about it soon :)

So, could you please give out some files (trailers, scripts, already-made parts of the game)?

If you're talking about Fester Mudd, check out the Games in Production board...

But if you're talking about SFS, one of the old team members happened to still have the final version:
http://koti.mbnet.fi/ygolonac/todo/uploads/sfs.zip

Although it's larger than the demo version, there still really isn't much to do puzzle-wise.

Wow! It's a real treasure for me! Thank you very much!
P.S. There are some non-interactive objects, such as ice-cream truck and mexican. Are they going to be interactive in the full version? And what about the intro? While trying to launch it, I discovered some bug.

Didn't he say there isn't going to be a full version? They stopped developing the game.

That's right. The project is dead, we're not going to continue developing it. Try to pay some attention, will ya Cyrus? ;)

P.S. What about the intro? Is it represented here?

Sure, they were going to be interactive. And nope, there's no intro.

So, what is the plot of the intro? What do the mysterious two guys look like?
P.S. Besides, aren't you bored of speaking about SFS? ;)

He obviously doesn't want to talk about his demo from over 2 years ago.

There's not much to do in the extended demo either

end of.

I'm not speaking to Tarantula. He'll get sick if I ask him about SFS one more time ;) I ask the people who has downloaded the demo: can you do here any more exept getting a belt, flashlight, wrench, screwdriver, coin and a jar? Oh, and look at the window which can be seen from the roof. Is there anything more?
