So ive just Started Ags.
Where do i start? ???

I know all the basics like what is ags and what its abilaties are but i feel
lost.
How should i start my first game or whatever i should do.

ps im only 11  ::)

Only 11 ... guess I better watch my mouth ;)

I would suggest downloading the demo game and playing around with it.  Seeing how it works and such.

Then take it apart in the editor (disect it if you will) to see all the bits and pieces and how the effects were accomplished.

Then browse through the technical forums to see questions others have asked.

Most importantly, play around with it and you'll learn as you go.  You have to realize that you aren't going to conquer the program overnight.  I've been using it for over a year and I still have a long way to go!

Good luck and welcome to the forums!

ja. Welcome to the forums.

Don't START using ags with a vision to create a mind-blowing game. Because that's just crap.

Mess around with it. Do whatever you want, even if you don't understand it, and KEEP doing it. After a while you'll be like "oh! I remember that funtion!"

Once that starts to happen you're on the road to happy game making.

And welcome once again

Hi, and welcome to AGS.

Since the demo game wouldn't compile properly with my version, I can recommend following the tutorial in the manual - it's an excellent way to get started.

Apart from that, I can only repeat what the others said: Put your plans for your mindblowing megagame on the backburner and just mess around with the program.
Once you're a bit more confident, write a small game to test your skills (doesn't need to be more than one room).

If you like, you can even put it online and post about it in the Critic's Lounge or in the Completed Game Announcements to get feedback.

I've been at it for about three weeks now... and it's great fun so far.

I only started using AGS about 1 1/2 months ago and now I understand most of the basics. The way I found easiest was to look through the tutorials, and make the game, that way you can pick up the basics very fast. Second thing to do would be downloading other games to see how other people organize their games. Third check through the forums to see if you can find some helpful posts. Finally would be to get some resources to start your game off. I recommend http://ron.the-underdogs.org
P.S I am only twelve. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the basics!  ;D

Guess who's back??

Heh, I've been here for a year and a half and I still dont know how to script anything past the basic NewRoomEx, so dont feel to far behind. A good place to start is MAGS. Thats where a lot of new commers get there start. This months a good one so get a move on. :)

Ive played around with ags a little and sorta got used to it.

New to AGS? Then you might need a few resources to set you on your way!

*****http://www.freewebs.com/skimbleshanks/*****

The BIGGEST repository of
- FONTS (has actually about 5)
- TEMPLATES (ALL the templates made! No kidding!)
- GAME PACKS (The INstagame AND the RON pack, the latest version!)
- PLUGINS (ALMOST all. Heh, the most useful ones)
... and a bit more, yeah.

Just be careful, the page's bandwidth is limited. If it's frozen... try again on the ninth of the following month.

And DON'T use download managers like GetRight or DownloadAccelerator. Freewebs doesn't like them.
<END OF PLUG>

EDIT - Erg, it's ALREADY out of bandwitdh? Maybe I should find another *free* host...

Wow! Thanks a lot, Candle! But since it's file hosting and right now it's my whole SITE that's frozen, it won't do much good until the following ninth...

When your  site opens up again load the files to that host and hotlink to them to your main site..
Then you only have web pages loading and not files downloading. :)

Argh! I can't get that file hosting thing to work. Too complicated. I went for freewebs in the first place because it was easy to use.

Thanks anyway, Candle. I'll stick with freewebs.

Try this:

http://www.necronhosting.com

It's got great bandwidth and webspace, and optional ads. (only if you want to support the hoster)

The catch is the websites are manually accepted/declined.
