Yes. But let Yahtzee do it, please.Ã,  ;)

If anything, we should make more AGI versions of point and click games. I love AGI.

Yes, but just for the heck of it, let someone else do it. Yahtzee IS a good choice, actually, but there are many people out there.

As you can read there, the creators do not have any plans to remake enclosure.

Rui 'Trovatore' Pires

Oh, I thought it was the creators who had started the thread. In that case, no, no way. It'd be disrespectful. If they wanted it point and click, they'd have made it point and click.

"I say we let Yahtzee do it."
"Yes, Yahtzee can do it."
"Then it is decided; Yahtzee shall do the remake."
"Fine. Who's gonna make the phonecall?"

etc

I'd like to see a point and click version, since the AGI interface sucks.
But only if the creators wised up and made one :)

The whole point of the interface is that it's nostalgic. I haven't heard anybody complaining about Peasant's Quest either

The AGI interface doesn't suck. A parser is still the most transparent (and realistic) way to interact in a game. If AGI has any faults, it's in the graphics/sound department, but I think Enclosure does a great job within those limits..

So no remakes.. Make a new parser game in AGS instead :=

In a text only game, perhaps.

In Enclosure it's far from transparent and realistic. For a start, you have to move an on-screen character near an object you want to interact with. What reality is that based on?

Then once you get there you have to guess the name of the 40 pixel, 4 colour object and type it into a box along with a guess for the verb. Last time I tried to pick up an object in real life I didn't have to type "get banana" on a keyboard.

If anything moving a mouse towards an on screen banana is a lot more realistic - it's kind of like moving your hand towards the object.

I'm all for nostalgia, but recognise it for what it is.

In my opinion, it's more realistic because the actions available to you are potentially unlimited.. Of course, we know that you can't do anything that the game hasn't been programmed to do. But a good designer will know what the player is most likely to try, and add responses to those things.. Using a mouse is more natural, but it also puts everything you can do right there on the screen. A parser lets YOU choose, your only limit being your vocabulary.

Remember, though-- I'm talking about an absolutely perfect parser, that's been tested and retested so that almost no command from the player is left unanswered. There aren't many games with that much attention to detail.. and I know Enclosure doesn't even come close. But don't blame AGI  ;)

Ginny

Yes, I agree it is somewhat more realistic to use a mouse for picking up or interacting and such. What I really like about the text parser (a good one, mind you, guess the verb/object is terrible. remember people, synonyms, acronyms, and parts of a name. like 'water bowl' could be reffered to as water and as bowl) is that it gives you much more freedom. You have a limited set of verbs when using newer GUIs, however many you may think of, even 100 verbs to choose from, there will always be a limit (though of course, 100 vers is really a large choice :)). With the text parser, as long as it's built to recognise many many verbs, the unlimited actions (or the illusion of them) are there.

I think I rather use the text parser with no graphics at all, because it may indeed be difficult to figure out what is drawn without a text description. a little moody music is nice though ;).

P.s. I should play enclosure.

yup, evertime I go to use something I have to move my right hand untill its at the mode I want and then touch the object with my left.  ::)

You have it easy. I have to mentally type a command in English before I can do anything but walk. I spent an entire day trying to eat once because I couldn't remember the English word for "digest".

LOL! Wouldn't that be incrdibely hilarious in real life? or better yet, in a game :D
A game about a person who needs to mentally type words or move his hands in a certain way to do something. An interface for such a game woult be really difficult to create :D

edit: Now that I went to the website, I remember seeing the trailer and becoming very interested. So it's off to play the game now for me :)
