I've recently finished an adventure game and thought you guys might like it. I didn't use AGS, although I am a fan. It was programmed in QB64.
Check it out, it's called Star Trek: Grand Theft Enterprise

I would also be interested in teaming up with some of you guys to create something even better!

Thanks for playing :)

AGS clearly has better pathfinding..

I had a go, but there was a bug I think that made me go to the same planet again when I travelled to a different one! The place where you get the tiki idol thing. This must have took you ages to make, the game is a lot bigger than I thought, looking at the playthrough videos. There is much room for improvement, I could make a harsh long list of flaws but I don't want to discourage you too much! It did make me chuckle, though sometimes for the wrong (?) reasons, like character distance scaling or when I beamed out and then in, on a corridor after leaving the transporter room.

You're right, AGS does many things better :) But I wasn't looking to compete with AGS, simply see if I could make a similar game engine.
Please keep in mind the entire game was programmed in QBasic, here's a look at the source code :D

Consider the fact that this game could run on a 486 computer and could have been released in the early 90's LOL

Your character portraits are just AWESOME.

That's pretty cool right there! Have you actually tried this? That would make an awesome youtube "Let's Play" for retro-gamers!
