OK First off, I'm a colossal newbie... commence mocking in 3...2...1... now..

done?..
splendid!
OK I've decided to try my hand at writing an adventure game using AGS or one of the plethora of other systems that seem to be available these days..
I've done some writing here and there and have been a believer of 'write what you know" so I figured this applies here as well, to that end I have decided to try and put together a Star Trek game.. however I realize my shortcoming in that I can't really draw very well.. at least until I get a LOT more practice..

and now, to my point.. finally..

I've always enjoyed the two Interplay Star Trek games, 25th Anniversary and Judgement Rites and the thought occured to me that the backgrounds and sprites from those games could be used to make a new game.

I was wondering if anyone out there knew how to extract the sprites/backgrounds from the game, or if that is impossible/extremely difficult.. if someone could reccomend a decent screen capture program that I could use to capture animation cycles (walking/talking/shooting/ bridge activities etc..) the only ones I've found have not worked properly or have not been able to capture multiple images.

any help would be totally appreciated..

Hello, I'm a Colossal man!

The only advice I can suggest is either search the internet for sprite rips [unlikely maybe]

And the best thing you could do is probably, when someone suggests a screen capping program, remember to cap them on as boring a background as you can, a grey wall or something like that, it'll make your job easier when selecting colours to delete.

Good luck and welcome.

You could try running the program in a window via DOSbox or something, then use the Photoshop "printscreen" feature (screencap). It's a bit tedious though.
