Title: Stereo Jack Adventure Game
Post by: Steel Drummer on Thu 28/12/2006 17:30:56
I've been pondering this a long time and finally decided to post something about it since it seems no one else has posted anything about it. No, I'm not making another game. I was playing Flight Of The Amazon Queen quite a while ago; the Interactive Interview in particular. I noticed that the 'game developers' were making another game called Stereo Jack. It looks really cool. I searched all over the net for the game, and only ended up finding jacks for a stereo. Here are some screens (Unfortunately, these are the only ones the FOTAQ game included):

A screenshot from the game. Looks good. The graphics remind me of that uber cool arcade game 'Comix Zone' from Sega.

A screen of me 'interviewing' the developer about it.

Some sort of concept art or storyboard. The black guy is the villain from the game.

Yeah. Cutscene art, I guess.

More cutscene art.

Does anyone know anything about this game? Was it canceled? Was it just a lame joke?

Stereo Jack looks cool, but I never heard anything more about it other than in that behind the scenes FotAQ game.

And in the interview below, there is no mention of Stereo Jack. Sounds like they were concentrating more on a PS2 platformer.

Not every game that is produced will be released; Loom 2, Full Throttle 2, Hopkins F.B.I. 2, Leisure Suit Larry 8 and Space Quest 7 are all on "permanent hold". That's just the adventure games that I can think of right now.
If we have to morn about every game that is cancelled, we won't have any time to play the games that ARE released.

But all of those game you mentioned were sequels. This one wasn't.

Does that actually make any shred of difference?

Either way, I've mailed Steve, hopefully we'll soon find out whatever happened to Stereo Jack.

Hi there,

I'm the webmaster of the "PC Games That Weren't" website that was linked to in Erenan's post.

Not sure what exactly you want to ask him, but he's probably not telling you more than what you can already read on my website. ;) They (John & Steve) tried two times to create an adventure game based on the Stereo Jack comic book character that they created in the early 90s. The first attempt failed because the publisher ran out of money, the second because they couldn't find a publisher at all. I don't think they ever thought about giving it another try.

But if you talk to Steve anyway, tell him that a lot of people are interested in the game and ask him to give me the permission to release the tech demos that were created back then. I wasn't able to convince him...

Hey! Maybe John and Steve could make it with AGS!

Well, I got a corporate response.

"Unfortunately Steve left the Stereo Jack project to work on various other projects."

Steve was invited to use AGS when I interviewed him a few years ago, but alas, I doubt he ever did :(

AGS is probably too 'unofficial' for him to use. :P
