So, yeah, my latest game will be a text parser. Being an ignorant, lazy American, I don't really know a whole lot of synonyms for similar words in British English that I should probably include in the game to avoid frustration. The game contains many different sorts of rooms. A kitchen with counters and cupboards, large rooms with night stands, a lounge and a study. The list goes on. The general thing I want to consider is simply the indoor scenario:
Can you help me come up with some synonyms for things that I may not be aware of?
waistcoat = vest
pants = trousers
handbag = purse
mobile = cellphone
taxation = OH MY GOD NO WAY, I'M NOT PAYING TAX I DON'T CARE IF WE ALL DIE!
YARR!!! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_American_words_not_widely_used_in_the_United_Kingdom) There's probably a better list but I can't find one off hand!

Ah, these are quite helpful. Thank you!

Giggle. But technically you've translated taxation into Republican Anglish, not the non-partisan American Vernacular.
Hood = Bonnet (Car)
Fanny = Ass
Gas = Petrol (Diesel)

Sorry, it felt like a word game ;D

What? I thought a fanny was an ass? A cunt is definitely not an ass. :P
As far as I'm aware, it's a UK/US thing. Fanny means babyhole to a Brit and kiester to an American. Not sure how they do things in Canada.
Makes 'fanny pack' an interesting expression to an english person.

And we call it a "bum-bag".
And because Dick Whittington is often shown holding one, these things are called 'Dick Bags'

True story!
Ahh. I see now (Wikipedia):
In slang
A South African, Australian, Irish and British colloquial term for the external genital organs of a female (vulva).
A North American term for the buttocks.
I've always known a fanny as being an ass. Also, as a side note, we never actually use the words fanny or buttocks.
That's awesome. In the US, this is what we call "Dickbags"
