hey all,
it's shitty weather over here so I thought:"hey! perfect weather for making a game"
thing is I had this great idea when I was on the loo (I always have great ideas on the loo) but I allready know that my limited scripting experiences could never craft a game like the one I had in mind.
and that's the way it usually goes... I think up a game, a story, all the art, and then I'm stuck.
next time I went to the loo again I had this other great idea!
to start a production team, not just for my game, but just to make quality games, they can be any size or genre let's just make em!
everybody doing his/her part, I can do writing and arts and stuff.
so what I'm saying is let's team up, and start creating quality games of any size, genre or graphic type!
I'm looking for enthousiastic people (scripters artists writers muscisians mascottes) all are welcome!
let's see if we can actually create some fun and stylish games to play/make!
Hmmm, this is a novel one - instead of a person posting asking for help on his game, or gathering a team for one game, you propose creating a company-like team to make several games. Doesn't sound bad, actually.
I'll go to the bathroom think it over.
Heh, sounds like a good idea. Maybe a little too soon after the AGS Team Challenge (http://www.agsforums.com/yabb/index.php?topic=15133.0). It seems you havn't been here for a while and may have missed that.
I understand that it is a little different as it isn't like a competition. But now that I think about it it seems like a cool idea. Pity that I don't really have time to participate right now.
nah I haven't missed the team challange (in fact I particepated (bet I wrote that wrong :P) in the first one...
if you don;t have enough time, I suggest that we'll use you to do a small part in a game, thats the great thing there's no pressure only fun!
still in the end I'm hoping to have a standard team of people, who'll get used to making games together, that way progress and meeting will go much faster :)
---EDIT---
completely forgot, got any questions? wanna join me in my team-quest? :P wanna marry me? e-mail me at: fruittree86@hotmail.com
Hmm, sounds like an interesting idea. I can offer myself up for all kinds of storywriting and design, and for scripting. I can do backgrounds to a certain extent, but only as a last resort, I'm sure you can do better art ;).
I'm a bit strained in time what with starting possibly the hardest year at school, but i would like to participate, if only for a small part. Sign me up ;) I would still make my own games with my "company", but this could be like an organisation or guild where people form teams. If there is an artist who does a certain style that fits a game more than another artist's style, then he'll do the artwork, etc.
This would be a great place for me to put all my ideas into, as I have loads of them just siting around waiting to be made.
Btw, maybe we should add beta testers to that list, and proofreaders or such. I remember m0ds suggesting something like a beta testers guild, so this could include that, though outside betatesters can be "hired" too. Maybe even translations at time.
:)
I'll particiate in anyway I can. Although I have limited time now that I've in a new school.
Ok, thought it out. I'd love to participate, but I doubt I'd have the time, as Anchorhead's soaking up my free time... but if you ever need me for something, particularly dialog-writing (it's my favourite, along with scripting!) feel free to ask. I can also beta-test, and... well, the things under my avatar.
But, if this goes at a leisurely, no-hurry-no-worry pace (never stopping, though), I'd definitely be interested.
BTW, I can also do translations, as you see - and in that quality, at least, I'd like to sign in right now. Portugal needs some more portuguese-spoken adventures, lots of people have no idea of what their missing because of the language barrier.
Although that sounds like a cool idea... I'm rather interested in this whole Guild thing. Wouldn't that be cool? Having say a particular bunch of threads or something for each part of game-making (sprites, backgrounds, scripting, music, etc) where people can showcase samples of their work, offer their services or just put themselves out there in order to find other people with the same styles to do projects with. Maybe even mention whether they're available at that point in time, what they might be interested in doing...
Well, -I- think something similar to that would be cool. Your ideas great too, FruitTree ^_^
wow, lot of posotive feedback great :D
I'm pretty sure I'll be able to get a reall good team together!
so, if you wanna join the team, or want to be a parttime "stand-in" or whatever, post your nick, email adress, qualities, and maybe some url where we can check some work you've done :)
I'll PM or e-mail you ASAP
let's get this show on the road!
Something is wrong here.
"I want 2 make a gaem/game company and get rich and famous but i cant cuz i cant draw or script or maek music1!1!! ??? ??? ???
could some1 plzz maek game for me?? ???"
This is what happens sometimes.
But now what?
"to start a production team, not just for my game, but just to make quality games, they can be any size or genre let's just make em!"
"let's see if we can actually create some fun and stylish games to play/make!"
I like it. The attitude. Motivating along with request.
FruitTree, I wish you luck. Even if AGSers are too busy with their own games/work/school and you're not able to get enough people together, you could still be really successful as a salesman, movie producer or even military general.
You should expand your idea, to get more (positive) responses. Plan whole thing. Tell what quality/size/style/story? game your team should start with, how you imagine whole thing working, how team communicates, etc.
Be more specific.
And It may even work. Your start impressed some people, I believe. Carry on.
in my 3 years of being a member I kinda lost that n00bie-ish sound :=
so anyway, this idea is in way to early a state to be talking about the actual games styles atmospheres and such, surely since this isn't just a project to make only my games, but any game that gets the teams approval :)
the original idea was a game I thought up in a dream but I kinda gave the rights to that game away to screen 7 :P
but to comfort you I've got tons (literally tons) of concepts for games, stories for games, characters for games, ideas for games, arts for games, even tons of games allready being in progress, I'm the kinda guy that starts new a game every week, count it, 160 game ideas... :P
so anyway make sure to join, we'll talk and see if we're all on one line with this thing :)
the whole idea is to release a few games that are such a great experience to play, that people will surely support us to make more and more games.
with that I should say (no time for modisty now) that I am fairly innovative in concepts and story lines and very atmospheric in graphics, I've always made games in style, no cheap stuff :D anyway, if there's someone with the same qualities for scripting or anything else, those people combined could make a great team for sure!
more quality games for everyone!
I kind of lost my point somewhere above anyway, sorry I haven't got anything concrete to show for but this idea is still only an idea.
but who gives?
get aboard! let's see where the ride will take us!
Hey Fruity :)
If you need a musician just yell :)
I'm relatively new to AGS, so I wouldn't be much use for technical stuff, at least at the moment. However I am a bit of an amateur writer, and this would be a good opportunity to develop my skills.
Uni starts at the end of september, but I did one of my modules over the summer, so I should have plenty of free time. Sign me up!
Quotecompletely forgot, got any questions? wanna join me in my team-quest? wanna marry me? e-mail me at: fruittree86@hotmail.com
Can I be your gay lover?
Oh, pretty please?
Serious tho' ( i was serious up there, btw), even tho i wasnt planning to do anything, with a COOL leader like you, and you persuasive talker, you, i chose to be a part of the quality making games team. If you want me ofcourse.
I think i should pm you now...
I remember when I was part of the Big AGS Project which ended up being a DOTT Sequel.
I would love to bring big the "big Project", just I would prefer it be an original game concept. I really think the whole AGS community as a whole could get involved in this. Maybe sourceforge will allow us to have an AGS CVS.
JD
Ok well so you were a part of ATC. :P
Um tho I am pretty busy for at least 2 months with uni, I think I could be a stand in. I can do some graphics, tho not all that great. I can also provide feedback on concepts and puzzles. I also do a little bit of MIDI making that I wouldn't mind seeing in games.
count me in for character art and object art
Good luck, my friend!
Announcing this in public is pretty brave... a project like this is a veritable n00b-magnet...so, good luck :)
Andail,
I've always admired your writing skills and always am in awe about the way you know how to create an atmosphere in a game that really grabs the player!
care to join the movement as a writer? creative supervisor or whatnot, you can really set an example for other allready established and respected AGSers, who knows what we could do? maybe even accomplish world peace!
seriously though,
I'm pretty sure your ideas can push the team forward, would you consider joining us?
well, fruittree always has the last call on who he'll decide to work with :)
Nice idea, but watch out.
Look at your average pro-team making games. There is ONE genius and a horde of gnomes making the dirtwork for him. I mean there is one main gamedesigner and about five dozens of small-print names in the credits.
Why?
Because such a team needs a brain, a boss who tells every artist what exactly he needs in the game. They have to push back their vanity for this - if they come up with a great idea and Mr.Creative tells them it looks/sounds/plays great but he doesn't like it or it does not fit the rest of the game, they have to keep it in their drawer until they make their own game. They get paid to compensate for this loss of artistic expression.
Now, in here, everyone is (or at least thinks that he/she is) a genius. If they make something for the big project, most of the people might be quite upset if it is dumped by the others (or the supervisor, or game-parts-collector or whatever you might call him). Since they have no other motivation (you didn't mention monetary compensation, did you) they will just return to have fun with their own projects.
Possible (but not 100% sure, of course) you spend months getting new people in, losing them and looking for others, until a year later you have unmatchable bits and pieces of something and continue to work with only two or three hardcore members.
Why not keep it to just a couple of hands from the beginning (if you go for teamwork) instead of calling a big party?
(As for myself (having not too much free time anyway) I am busy developing the first working demo for my own game, so I could not join you anyway, sorry)
EDIT:
Andail's comment made me re-read my own post, from a different point of view.
I don't mean to discourage anyone or be all-pessimistic! I just wanted to warm FruitTreeabout those things, since I know about them (from experience - I tried similar things over the years too)
So to make it clear: I wish FruitTree and his project all the best, and I was serious when I told him I am sorry not to be able to join.
good point(s),
but like I said I'm not some cool leader guy (though I am flattered) my idea was to keep the team fairly small and in a way it still is, I mean only a few said they wanted to really work with me on this thing, sure a lot of people who will help if needed but hardly anybody to get this thing moving.
I still need a few good artist some serious scripters and some writers and muscisians... anybody?
as a team we will all be part of the creative side of the game(s), you got a cool idea? well bring it on!
all I need now are talented people who share my idea of good adventure gaming :)
Albert, that's just discouraging and unnecessary.
It's true that team projects like this one have a really hard time managing, but the last thing they need is some know-it-all pessimist like you.
Fruittree, I can lend a helping hand by giving feedback on your plot, once you have conceived one. Alas, I have my own game project now, and I don't have time to fully participate in a team. Thanks for your invitation, though :)
Your optimism is admirable, so once again, good luck!
thanks a bunch andail,
I'll keep that in mind :) and ofcourse you're always welcome, joining us doesn't mean you have to leave your projects at all! :) but I'll stop trying to change you mind now :P
anyway,
PEOPLE THIS IS IMPORTANT!!!
I kind of lost track of everyone who wanted to join for sure and people who would like to help out a bit and such
please send me an email or pm me (I prefer the second) if you want to join!
I will need an email adress your qualities (writing scripting bg art and such) and if you can I'd like to see some work you've allready done, don't get me wrong I won't judge you by it, it just makes all of this a lot easier for me :)
right now the team only consists of people I've actually "spoken" wich are:
custard - BG arts
redruM - dialog(writing)
fruittree - kind of allround arts and some concept writing
other people who help out a bit:
andail - giving his oppinion on our ideas and just being th e cool guy he is
N3Tgraph - music
sorry if I left anybody out my head's just a bit blurry right now (that's why you need to PM me so I can get all the info right)
people I still need:
-a (puzzle)writer
-(any kind of) artist
-scripters!!!! (WE NEED YOU!!!)
-music dudes
I WANT YOU!
I'll do any backgrounds in my style, or in the classic Lucas arts or Sierra style (although Pixel Backgrounds take time) and any title screens or Story writing would be down my alley as well, I'd love to help out.
PM me :P
Huzzah! More stuff will be coming from redruM. This dude wrote the dialog for Knightsbridge Chronicles.
I'll make the music (if it's okay) - any companions are welcome ofcourse.
I'm quite curious about the genre/style of the first game now :P
Whose game mine or his?
Anyway, Sucks you dont need more concept writers as thats my bag. Hope your game turns out great.
Sounds like the general idea that we were using in the group that was working on Demo Quest 3, but everyone keeps flaking out (no offence, but I call em as I see em) We can't seem to get a character artist that will stick around. BTW: Has anyone seen PenguinX?
I'd love to put my hand in, if I were you I'd start a forum for the group. I'm on three projects already, but at least one could be a group project (KQ8:A switch in time, a MoE remake ala Romancing the Stones)
If your REALLY at a loss for a character artist, I suppose I could, maybe, just, squeeze some out of my rotting corpse..

i can also write good storys
this sounds awesome...i'm not gonna have time to do anything technical...but fruittree...i could definitely beta-test and proofread this...if you need me. :)
please consider me as character creater i have sent you some more pics hope you like them .
thanks
mousemat
I wouldnt mine becoming part of the scripting team, Im probably not as good as the current members but I could do the simpler stuff (I am quite good at scripting) and maybe learn a thing or two off of them, and I have plenty of free time.
Things I know I can handle:
Verb coins
MI3 type GUIS (including the Arrows and the Use/Get/Give status line dependant on the object)
Save/Load screens
Option Screens
Im confidant with using ints, strings, loops and GlobalInts (and doubles etc.)
Can use custom functions easily.
Various other small parts of coding I wont go into detail about
You can see my game to see an example of GlobalInt usage (the total petals, the hint system etc.)
I can probably do some chars and their animations, dont hold me to it tho
I'm excited! :)
when is the first project going to start? :)
hehe we're all excited N3T,
but the team isn't complete yet!
we'll really start of when we've got a complete team! :)
come on people this is your chance!
we still need people for:
1 person for character art!
1 person for additional art! (objects? inventories? the smaller stuff :P)
1 person for music
it could be you!!!
(I know I Know I use a lot of excalamtion marks... :P)
Iqu said he didnt mind doing some music now and then.
I have been looking for somewhere to test my music creating abilities, and this looks like the perfect place. I've talked with n3tgraph on IRC and Im sure that we'll be a great team. I will upload a sample of my work very shortly, and will edit my post.
Edit: Here it is, a rough demo: http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/on1e.zip
if N3tgraph is satisfied then so am I :)
I can't listen to your music right now though... I'm working :P
will listen to it tonight!
cool vel you're in aswell :)
ARTISTS!!! where are you hiding?? :P
Well I guess it's time for me to say something. I'm a pretty damn good artist and I have been doing pre-production on my own project for several weeks now. But I'll sign on... for now. If I like the direction that this is taking once we get our first project underway I'll commit some real work to it.
I'll be willing to do all 'round art and I can do character art especially well.
BTW I think we could use a message board separate from this one so we can show off our talent and pitch story ideas. Can I make one? If you want to see one I have already made go to http://trinut.clicdev.com it's a fanboard for an anime I like called Trigun.
Edit: on second thought if you want you could set one up yourself. Clicdev.com has the best ones on the web I think.
Hey,
I'm not the most skilled at anything, but if you need artwork or just off the wall ideas let me know what you need. I'm fairly good at editing...so if you needed me to read over anything, I could make sure it's all grammatically correct. (don't use my grammar on this board as proof of that!)
- Julie
Hmm, I might be interested in this. I don't know if I can do art but I can give it a try.
all you guys PM me
with your name, email adress, and some sample art!!!
this is taking longer than I expected
let's get a move on!
Hmm, just wondering, who gets to decide the games, it should be a thread on the forum if we get one, "game ideas" and each new project the best one is picked maybe?
If you all want, I can change up the way the DemoQuest forum works, make FruitTree an Admin, and make that the 'group' site. We could set up a poll sub-forum for voting on projects. If we can get a 60-70% majority on one project, we'll work on that until its finished, for the most part. We can also have sub-forums for each game, so if someone is bored with Project X, they can go play around with Project Y for a while. I'm already paying the fees for the site, might as well use it. I think I'd have to set up a paypal 'treasury' though, I can't afford extra bandwidth charges.
if you'd do that that'd be great ;D
finally this thing is taking shape
still looking for artists though :P
Ain't we always? ;) I'll look into modifying the forum tonite.
*bump*
any luck on the forums?
artists, grow some gutts and join!
TA DA! www.DemoQuest.us is set up as the forum for the team. If you want to register as a team member, just register over there and PM me here to let me know its you. I'll be working with FruitTree as admin of the forums. Everyone can be as active or passive as desired, of course. Members will be able to post and vote in the "FruitTree's conglomeration of artists" sub-forum.
before signing up, I'm not planning to pay anything for webspace, call me an ass, but I just won't.
I'm just a poor musician! :=
if your still searching for artist then i am here if you need me .i have got much better now :=
Everyone's welcome, I'm paying the web hosting. Like I said, I might just put up a 'community chest' thing, even a buck here or there would help offset it. I pay $3.00 a month, big deal. It won't be mandatory or really even mentioned again.
I've activated two accounts so far, and will continue to activate them as things progress.
QuoteI'm just a poor musician!
...Who bought KORG trinitron extra...
If the 'artist for inventory items and stuff' position is still open, PM me, and I'll PM you back, with samples!
Hurray!

Korg Triton Extreme ;D
YES, so I'm poor now :-\
I thought I'd let everyone know I've activated all the accounts I have recieved, and made FruitTree a site Admin, so you're all welcome over at www.demoquest.us
I've suggested one game to work on as a group (DQ3) but we need many more suggestions, just to make it fair.
i can help with items and inventory stuff
Where is everyone? I have set up the forum and got it working, even have a few participating members. We're currently looking for ideas on what to work on first.
Whoa! This is great! I only just discovered this thread and I like it! Do mind I can only do art related tasks (I can't script for peanuts…) but I excel in what I do.
Here is an example of my gob smacking skills! ;D
(http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/death.bmp)
Sorry I'm a bit slow on the uptake but it isn't too late to join the production team?

...and the result is an "I'm with stupid" image. Way to go!
George, no worries, that's just a way to make people never forget that they aren't supposed to upload bmp-images :)
I took a look, and it looked ok though!
