It seems like Game Informer have had a chat with the game's executive director Kevin Boyle. And he reveals that the game will be inspired by last years Heavy Rain. (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/106791-Telltales-Jurassic-Park-Adventures-Inspired-by-Heavy-Rain)
Due to the great praise Heavy Rain received for the gameplay, it will be exiting to see how Telltale will develop the new game. I think the more open non-linear style would fit good together with adventure gameplay, at least for this title.
It alsy says the game will be a sequel to the first film, and the beginning "will take place during the film, but from a different viewpoint."
This is exciting news! I can't wait to see how Telltale tackles this concept :)
Thanks for sharing!
I first found this news at a norwegian internet page, that also included some quotes from mr. Boyle not found in the english internet. here they are quickly google translated:
- To make something that pays off both in the quieter character-building parts, as well as intense moments that you expect from "Jurassic Park", is a new direction for Telltale.
- Story and characters are a very important ingredient. You're going to feel the drama. You'll feel the excitement. You'll get different feelings. There is humor in the lighter moments - time to get to know and love the characters. And of course the spectacular island, and then break everything down to the moments of terror.
- Even though our game is more linear than "Heavy Rain ", the player's actions affect the way the story unfolds. The choices the player does affects the detail of the story so you will know that we are watching the choices all the time.
I hope they are not going in the direction of entirely getting rid of puzzles. Not for the sake of JP, but of future Telltale games.
That said, one of the main problems with Back to the Future is it's similarity to the basic Telltale game mould. A change would be healthy, and I think required, actually.
JP sim/strategy games rule. JP adventures? Meh. I'm excited to see what they may do, but personally it'll be hard to beat the fun I've had with Operation Genesis. IMHO, JP as a point and click is a very odd choice for TellTale. What completely unrelated to the JP world of characters character will we play in this sequel prequel episodic re-branding? Will it be just a PR scam for JP 5? Most JP games (to me) just don't cut it, I'm hoping they'll prove me wrong - but meh. Will Spielberg be involved? They sure as hell won't have a Pete Postlethwaite cameo. Will Ellie be remarried? Will Lex have some life threatening disease by which the end of the series all the Hammond's are dead? Will John Williams do the soundtrack? I just hope TellTale don't make something that fans like us could've done better. Good on them for trying but really, no original titles and re-hashes of all old franchises? They're becoming a bit like the guy at the bar I just want to avoid. If it's heavy rain style, I can only image it'll be pretty pants. :-\ Maybe they have been asked to make the official JP5..
Is JP actually still hot at this point? I thought it got old
pants long ago.

Damn, I could have put that one in Snakes!
I don't know about this game. There doesn't seem to be that much to find about it yet. No screens or anything.
If I were to play a Jurassic Park game I would have it be more like JP: Tresspasser. Only working properly and looking good.

Totally agree. If it turns out to be a game without puzzles, I'll have to think twice before buying it.

A new Trespasser-styled game is ok, but at this point I expect better from Telltale. Hopefully they will make a game close to the original story, and without directions that doesn't make sense comparing to the rest of the movies.
I'm fairly exited about what they can cook up, but we'll have to wait and see..
That's it. Definitely worth waiting and seeing. I had reservations about BTTF but they seem to have been proved wrong. Well, that is - pre-February free copyness.
A Jurassic Park adventure game?!
This can only mean one thing:
"They show extraordinary intelligence, even problem-solving. Especially the big one. We bred eight originally, but when she came in she took over the pride and killed all but two of the others. That one... when she looks at you, you can tell she's working things out."
I can't wait to play as the velociraptor!
Or, going by the same quote, you could play as a man testing a velociraptor's intelligence and teaching it how to solve adventure game like puzzles.
Telltale + Jurassic Park = Dinosaur Comics!

Game Informer have now released the exlusive first look, and you can check it out here. (http://www.gameinformer.com/games/jurassic_park/b/pc/archive/2011/01/14/an-unlikely-developer-steps-into-the-maw-of-a-troubled-license.aspx) This time with screenshots.
Whrn I first heard about this game, I thought it was gonna be a horrible mess. Reading these articles actually get me excited about it!
Thanks for the link Gudforby :)
Some gameplay from the game:

It looks like a terrible linear button masher game. It doesn't look like there is an alternate path. It's just what they want you to do, and if you don't press the right buttons at the right time you die. :-\
Dragon's Lair with Dinosaurs, and in 3D? :=

Princess Daphne in 3D! ;D
Oh yes, because walking around and exploring is so boring...I know, let's just have you warp to every location and then button mash your way through. Way to trash a franchise, Telltale, but then Back to the Future is its own brand of lemon, too.
Interesting video, I agree they seem to be moving away from the traditional adventure style many of us particularly enjoy in favor of these console methods and quick time events. The game looks good, the action looks a lot of fun. The advancing through it seems as easy as pie. It definitely doesn't seem tame and child like which is great. Also it's about time the can of embryo's came back into the franchise..!
The story/characters seem a bit meh from the little I've seen of it but that gives it more of a chance to grow on me if I actually play it. I think I probably will, despite the lack of any other famous JP characters. I'd like to think its a kind of video game standard now (not a cliche) to have a JP game open with the voice of John Hammond. I've got a feeling TellTale won't :(
But other than that, mm, it looks intense. But just an easy interactive video. I can understand they'd want to reach an even more casual audience with this franchise than BTTF. The problem lies with these dimwits who form the 'casual' of the audience >:( Hehehe
I hope they release a proper trailer for it, the current trailer is a behind the scenes video really.
You know, Jurrassic Park did have an entry in point-n-click adventure games on the SegaCD (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gucxiF3PYDU). But that probably doesn't help this case any since that game was somewhat of a mess in design and story.
I'm sure anything telltale puts together will have better design choices.
I hate to sound like a d1ck but honestly, is it just me or does TTG's take on JP look completely ass-side-up? :o
I'm not referring to the gameplay, but the actual look of the game. I wonder what on earth they are doing? The colors and lighting is all bonkers. They missed the matinée feel of the movies completely, there's no magic here whatsoever. I am truly blown away by how difficult it seems to be for them to replicate the ambiance of the franchise. Can it truly be that difficult? Are they spreading themselves crazy thin? (as in: is only one poor malnourished artist working on this project??!).
It's obvious TTG have the talent... both tales, samnmax and the bttf games all look polished. But this? They must have the tightest budget on earth for this game. Too bad.
Pretty sure Universal don't give a F, as long as it makes them money and they can easily lose all the original material in their vault. One would assume TTG had to do some blagging to Universal, because it's not apparent Dreamworks have anything to do with this (whereas it usually seems SKG license out the game stuff). If they are involved, I haven't seen it bigged up like it usually is. Personally I'd prefer SKG licensing over Universal, because the first would work on the creative control a little better than the latter, IMO.
The release of JP is now delayed to this fall, to be released simultaneously on all flatforms. They state that it is because they see potential in the way the game is progressing, and want to put some extra quality in it. I find this pleasing, as many of TTG's previuos games sometimes seem a bit rushed to meet the release date. Hopefully this will result in a game more true to the feeling of the movies.
