I've now completed part one of my game. It has just finished it's beta-ness and I'm planning a release of it in stages very similar to Apprentice or Book of Spells, although my game will not be as long as those.

Should I continue and release my game in parts, or should I work at it, complete it and release it all as one?

I'm very tempted to release it now so I can get some feedback as to what options would be preffered throughout the story and get some general feedback as to whether or not to progress making it.

I know at the end of the day it's my choice but I would like to know how people would prefer something like this?
When I was a little kid we had a sand box. It was a quicksand box. I was an only child... eventually.

maybe treat this first part as an extended demo, to get people interested, and the rest as its groupedÃ, chapters. include this beginning in the final version.

*edit for spelling* sorry about the poor spelling, i dont know why my zodiac had trouble submitting a reply online.
- Oh great, I'm stuck in colonial times, tentacles are taking over the world, and now the toilets backing up.
- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

I used to make games but then I took an IRC in the knee.

Gary, have you perhaps considered releasing part 1 when 2 is ready, then release 2 when 3 is ready, then release 3 a little while after?

That way you won't be tempted to just keep fixing part 1 and never get part 2 or 3 started.

Games are like movie scripts. I suggest make it ALL once, revamp it AFTER that a hundred times :)

This is why I never get a game finished. From start of production I try to perfect every little thing :P I'm trying like an ass to make Square work by just making it crap and then going back and going over it again.

Best of luck - look forward to part 1.

And btw! "The Zero Hero" is now a common phrase used by staff where I work, thanks to your game! [did it ever happen tho?] ;)

lol, good to hear my game name is famous :) and no it never happened, although it most likely won't anymore as I recently formatted my PC and being the stupid fool i was forgot about AGS, and the only thing i keep backed up is my current game in production. C'est la vie I suppose.

I may get round to making it again, but starting from scratch isn;t too appealing. Who knows I may have it stored on a floppy disk somewhere to start work on it again.

Your idea of the staggered release sounds good, if i wait till part 2 is done then it will press me onward to making it. I may try that instead. I'll give it some thought over the weekend.
