This had probably been done before but i'm new so not sure.
Whats your best ever adventure game? Mine is Day Of the tentacle or Sam n Max :D
Every so often somebody posts this topic. I don't ever get tired of telling people my favorite AG of all time!
Mine was Space Quest III.
Here's the latest one: The greatest Adventure Game of all time (http://www.agsforums.com/yabb/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=10748;start=msg130038#msg130038)
])]v[
Myself it's Grim Fandango, then Curse of Monkey Island and Day of the Tentacle.
I really haven't played too many adventure games lately, but I think my most recent favorite would have to be 5 Days a Stranger.
I think every newbie asks this ::). But, no problem, as my favourite adventure game changes depending on my emotional state... When I saw POTC it was MI2, now, with my Indy DVD colection, I think I can say, Indy 3"...
The funny thing is I still keep think of farlander as a newbie as well.
Which I must be to Gilbert.
My favorite adventure game is... Starcross.
...hey, nobody said it had to be point-and-click...
I liked 'Future Wars', (I think it counts as anadventure game, it's at least point'n'click)

Mmm, Infocom adventures. True classics! Zork Trilogy here.
Best game ever is definately Monkey Island Trilogy (I know there were fourth games, but it was crap). There is just nothing like the hot winds of hell blowing at your face!
Me favorite game is Beneath a Steel Sky.
Why? Becuse it kicks ass.

Infocom! Wiigii! It's nice to see people still remember these. I inhaled them as a kid. My personal favorite has to be "A Mind Forever Voyaging." AMFV had the most detailed virtual world I've ever seen, bar none. Nobody has ever topped it.
I might be declared anathema, but I never really liked the original Zork much. No plot, no interesting characters, instant death... nice puzzles though. The later Zorks (Beyond Zork, Zork Zero) were fantastic, probably because the Implementors became writers and storytellers.
Grim Fandango and Seasons of Sakura tie for my favourite game.

Which reminds me, DG; I just managed to get SoS running in XP last week.
...
I'm sure that I had something to add to that, but it's gone.
Anyhoo, prolly Grim Fandango for me, 'swell.
Grim Fandango, Gabriel Knight 1, Discworld Noir...
Mm... Noir...
[uncontrolled discworld noir quoting-mania]
"Heard of the Milka?"
"Sure. Put it in my coffee-a."
"Ha, ha, ha. It's a ship."
"Yeah, I know."
"Oh, I'm not sure. My memory isn't very good. I need things to jog it..."
"Would a crowbar work?"
"That's not what I meant."
"If I mention a gold-plated jewel, will you say something sarcastic?"
"It's a good bet."
[/uncontrolled discworld noir quoting-mania]
...
...Ok. I'm allright now.
mmm. Discworld Noir. Anyone who has played my games can see the obvious influence of DN. A true masterpiece, marred only by the fact that it won't play on Windows XP. :-(

Maybe you have forgotten to add the instructions on how you get it running so that I can play it too? ;D

^^My second favorite.
My favorite is JAZZ AND FAUST!!!!11111111one1111...no...it's Grim Fandango, and my favorite text adventure is A Mind Forever Voyaging. If Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic didn't have combat and RPG elements and was considered an adventure game, it would be in there too.

DosBox?

Same problem happens to me.
Unless there's some way to reconfigure DOSBox so it work with SoS.
Edit: Oh wait, checked their forums -- it seems their latest CVS can run Sakura. YAY!
I hate having to choose one, but I really can't think of any game that deserves the title of "The Best Adventure Game Ever" than Grim Fandango. I mean, the issue of "favorite" aside, GF really tied together every aspect of the adventure genre and combined them into a form that is simply more masterful than anything else I've ever played.

DosBox?
Virtual PC, actually :P
I had to use a different installation-type-thing to the one which I'd used before in order to get it to work, for some reason, however.
Actually, I remember what I wanted to add; Las had been wondering about the similarities between SoS and Eva; as underdogs labels SoS as being made in 1992 (Eva having come out in 1995), it seems rather odd. Well, in case he hadn't worked it out for himself yet, and in the unlikely event that anyone still cares, I can say that I'm pretty much 100% certain that underdogs merely got the year wrong; besides the fact that there are plenty of references to anime besides Eva in there (for example, the three girls who's names I forget but are always together are quite blatantly based upon the three main characters of Rayearth, and I've heard that there's references to the likes of Tenchi in there, too), I spotted something which couldn't possibly have occured by coincidence, and was clearly an Eva referency-thing.
So there you go.
I'm very glad to see my own personal favorite and the game i consider to be best is so poular ---> Grim Fandango! Its beyond my verbal capability to describe this masterpiece of combined greatness. Just take every positive advective you can find and you have a description of the game I guess :P
Ok, I may be exagerrating, but I think thats expected with the blind love I have for this game. Also many seem to agree so :)
In my opinion what makes GF so good is that aside from having every aspect of adventure gaming perfected and polished, it also combines all of these aspects in the best way, to create one complete epic adventure.
Alright enough rambling about Grim's awesomness, heh.

There is a calender in Ruri's room that has a picture of Rei Ayanami in bandages. OMG!
I figured it out -- Anno knows MrColossal and together they TIME TRAVEL!!!
Or underdogs got it wrong.
In any case, I can finally play SoS again, and that's all that matters to me.
Being the Sierra fool that I am, I'd have to say my absolute favorite is Gabriel Knight 2... great plot, great characters, great puzzles, and so incredibly profound. The other 2 GK games are right up there, though.
I have a super-soft spot for King's Quest 6, though... and KQ 7... and KQ 5... and, hell, why not every Sierra adventure. But really, KQ6 is a favorite.
Yeah, Season of Sakura is a good game. I've been trying to figure out a way to make a interface like that for AGS, and make a game with it... but you know, without the sex. :o
i have just compeleted the DIG and i just loved it. SUPREME!!!11! has anyone else played it cos it hasn't been mentioned...

"As soon as you walked through the wall, I could see you were a troll of destruction!"
Mm... I hear you. It's sadly underrated, in my opinion. I know I read somewhere about some way to get DWN to run in XP, but I'll be damned if I can remember where...
"Mooncalfs silence spoke louder than words.
Well, not literary.
It wouldn't have much of a silence if it did.
I gather that's the kind of thing that silences get kicked out of school for.
...The point was, I knew there was something he wasn't telling me."
I dont have money so I just play the freeware games made with AGAST, AGS, and SLUDGE.
Nothing against die hard AGS fans, but in my opinion, the best PNC adventure games ever are Out of Order and Afetrshocked.
And SLUDGE has the funniest name.
haha sorry if I offended anyone.
BUT WAIT!!!
I have done games on AGAST and done a demo of SLUDGE and AGS is the best adventure creator EVER!
I hope you respect me now.
Long Live Gabriel Knight! All three of 'em!
And let's acknowledge Black Dahlia, which is only not nominated because it's been MURDERED by all its GRATUITOUS, USELESS and NUMEROUS shivers-style puzzles, not being a shivers-style game. Otherwise, it's one of the best, right up with GK.
Wow, I mean, I LOVED Grim Fandango (in fact, the box has been staring at me for days, begging me to stop making my own game and play it through again), it's by far one of the best modern games around... but my favourite adventure game of all time could never be a modern game. It has to be Monkey Island 1. It's never ever lost it's charm for me and it was such a big influence on game style and humour.
One thing that makes me a little sad is that NOONE (that I've seen) has mentioned Simon the Sorceror. I love that game to death, in particular the second one. As a personal favourite (though not "best of all time") it would probably have to be at least in my top 5.
I think the first 2 Monkey Island games (the only ones I truly consider to be MI games), the first 2 Quest for Glory games.. these all deserve mentions. I find it harder to pick out individual games from the SQ, LSL and KQ games... I think they do better as whole series' rather than picking out one that stands above the rest.
Hehe, LSL never makes it to these lists but I adored them when I was growing up.
Oh, and Lure of the Temptress was better than Steel Sky ^_- ....and just for good measure, some more name dropping: Sam and Max and DOTT!
Quest for Glory 4, you bastards.
Yeah Toefur, I'd have to say Quest for Glory 1, 2 or 4, everytime I replay one it turns into my favorite, so I'll just say all 3 are the best =)
QfG II is slightly better than IV, although both are superb. QfG I is good, but nowhere near as good as II or IV, and III was less good than I.
Grim Fandango, The Curse of Monkey Island, and Quest for Glory IV.
Quest for Glory II and Monkey Island II aren't far behind, but IV and Curse's atmospheres put them on top for me.
Grim Fandango is incredible (aside from a couple bizarre puzzles)... I'll be surprised if there's ever an adventure game that comes along to top it.
It's hard for me to break things down to a single game, so I'm sort of stuck with four. I love many adventure games, (especially the LucasArts & Sierra ones), but for me:
Quest for Glory II
Little Big Adventure 2
Grim Fandango
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
What's with nobody liking QFG3 as much, I wonder? I can't answer the question, because I never got into it much... so I can't remember what it's like.
QFG4 was better, imho, than the others because of it's atmosphere and I think it had better crafted characters than 1 & 2, thus making it more memorable for me.

QFG3 was the africa setting. Don't get me wrong, I loved it, but it's not quite up there. 1 set the stage, 2 was just great on the whole scale, 3 had a great finale imho, but was lacking parts in between. 4 was good, too, though I didn't like it as much as others may have.
