Title: The Book of Unwritten Tales
Post by: CaptainD on Thu 13/10/2011 22:57:12
This is an adventure game due for release on 28th October (English language version - it's already a bit hit in Germany) - I've played a preview build and it's very enjoyable.  I think it's going to do very well in the English-speaking adventure game world!

Did Death get buried "alive"? ...sounds like a Terry Pratchet novel.  ;D

I almost peed myself watching the trailer :D
I get sort of an oldskool vibe from this adventure, really nice, I'll keep an eye on this.

After playing the first two chapters, I think Discworld is the only pop culture reference I haven't seen!

It's like the lovechild of Monkey Island and the Lord of the Rings films...

Played it a year ago and loved it. Very polished, very funny, not to hard though.

Yeah, most of the puzzles are easy, but it's still loads of fun.

Review now posted (http://www.pcgamereviewsandnews.com/2011/11/pc-indie-adventure-game-review-book-of.html)

A bit easy, but overall this is a great adventure game.  It's up for Best Computer Game and Game of the Year at The Indie Game Magazine Awards.

I'm about 3/4s of the way through it, and it has SO many good points--the interface, the graphics, some of the characters--but its constant (and out-of-nowhere) pop culture references and tendency to make fun of itself at the expense of the story are a little grating.

Yeah, they probably overdid it a little bit with the pop culture references, but since most of them made me smile anyway I didn't view that as much of a negative point.  Glad you're enjoying it otherwise!

Fair enough! I think they take me out of the experience a bit because the characters are referencing things they couldn't possibly know anything about, considering that this universe is (I assume) not the same universe as ours; but, I tend to take storyline things like that too seriously.
