'Donating' My Game Project

Hi guys,

Some of you may remember me working on a fantasy text game that I started a couple of years ago, the WiP title was Text Quest.  Well, I started university last week, and as much as it hurts to give up something I've invested so many hours in, I now think it's very very unlikely I'll ever be able to finish it how I envisioned it.

So, not wanting to see all that effort go to waste, I'd like to donate the files to somebody/a team who could turn it into a great game of their own. I would also be willing for somebody with the expertise to turn it into a self-contained module, or some kind of plugin if that's possible.

I've done all the groundwork so atm it's a fully functional text RPG game. I had fantasy in mind although it could be used for any genre. It could make a kick-ass detective text-game. The 'engine' includes:

- Text-drawing to a main window, fully customisable font/colours etc
- Scrollable text window at two different speeds
- Image drawing
- Perfect for a sprawling game world
- Aggressive/passive/unique NPCs
- Inventory and equipment system
- Can generate minimap and full-view map of the game world
- Randomised dungeon generator, coded by Khris
- Full quest mechanism with markers
- Followers and mounts
- Basic day/night cycle
- "Smart" text parser that has a best guess at which NPC/object you want to interact with, based upon everything in the room
- Full 'dialog' mode so you can talk with NPCs

An OLD example screenshot - the minimap appears in the top left.

The only thing missing is a combat system, but I created provisions for one such as levels, armour ratings, NPC hostility. Aside from that, it does require a bit of general tidying and bug-hunting but as I say it's playable atm - I just haven't added any rooms, quests, or NPCs!

Preferably I would like somebody who is well-known around the forums who already has game-making experience, only because I really want to see something finally come to fruition after all this time :-D

If you are interested please post here or PM me.

Thanks
Atelier

Edit: I'm surprised I forgot to mention, there are four fantastic orchestral tracks written for the game, including a main theme, composed by Jon Babb (bosa).

Aw, man, that's a shame. I have been wondering what happened to this. I hope whoever adopts this does it justice.
You say you haven't added any rooms, quests or NPCs, but have you designed any kind of story for this?
Also the GUI is absolutely pretty.

It's a damned shame that you're abandoning this game, Atelier. It looks very cool.

This is beautiful, Atelier; really a shame you put it aside for such irrelevant things as education! Would be lovely to see this as a module!

bicilotti

Please state name of Uni, so I can burn the whole building down; that will grant you more time to work on the project :=
I hope to see a module out of it (and, maybe, ever thought of releasing a short adventure based on this? Just to illustrate the capabilities to the forums).
Whatever you choose, good luck!

module? This should be (optionally) included with a fresh AGS install as a demo game besides the normal demo game.

I agree. (nod)

I've begun roleplaying 24 years ago, and playing adventure games one year later. I'm also into pen&paper rpg-making, gamebook making, and video-game making: so I'm very interested in this. If it wasn't for my 2 ongoing projects (one of which is an AGS game) I'd immediately ask you to choose me as your heir. Anyway, after the release of Forge: Chapter One my schedule will be slightly less crowded, and I'd like to see if this opportunity intrigues me enough for me to consider accepting the challenge. It also depends a lot on the actual time the project requires to reach completion.
Would you be able to share a demo, if you didn't already? Description set my interest on fire but I'd like to see the prototype "in action".

Of course, if you've already found a heir, congratulations! I'd suggest you gently coerce him to open a topic in the appropriate board, cause this is definitely something worth keeping an eye on!
Welcome back to the age of the great guilds.
