Let's talk about the good old days of AGS! Let's together dig up memories, and share thoughts!

For example about:
- the time agsforums.com still excisted
- aprilfools joke, the commercial AGS
- Andy P3n1s
- the fifth time I got seriously banned from #ags

or about that time that some guy said something, and we all laughed and peed our pants...

aah... the good old days...

Andail

I always pictured the good old days of AGS somewhere in spring 2001, which was just before my joining, which is why there is little for me to talk about.

Nacho

I joined, and I was lucky to tell him personally, because of one animated gif in Helm's signature. I was looking for a good adventure games forums and then I saw some nice posts by Andail, Mr. Colossal, and Helm. And I loved Critics Lounge. I remember that days with nostalgia.
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

Squinky

I miss the way games were made back then (Permanent daylight, Larry Vales, etc) ...They all had cheesy humor and in jokes...

It's just different now.

Also lots of folks have gone that were just cool as hell...

I remember checking out the Ee Zed Boards once a month on the school computers.
I remember pop-ups and confusing looking topic trees.
I remember funny animated avatars that took very long to download on a 56k modem.
I remember members making funny posts, that didn't made me want to become a member because I wasn't as witty.
I remember checking GAC every chance I got, to see if Sol 2 was released.
I remember the AGS forums going down just before the first mittens.

No, I'm sorry, it's like a blur. Please, don't make me re-live it!

MrColossal

I don't remember anything... See I have this condition
"This must be a good time to live in, since Eric bothers to stay here at all"-CJ also: ACHTUNG FRANZ!

Domino

Oh, i'll never forget the stupidest thread ever made by a noob.  I (at the time BuffaloGamer) asked where i could find free MIDI files for a game i was gonna make. I don't even remember where i put it, but all i know is TerranRich moved it, and that was when he had that evil looking star trek avatar.  I was so afraid of TRich, that i hoped he would never show up again. But as time went by, i realized that he was a great guy and not evil like his avatar showed.  How quickly a couple of years go by.  If he ever shows that avatar again, i might go off screaming like a little girl.

No, no. He's actually very evil. Don't let him fool you with his demonic tricks.

Edit-----I mean, he made John Malkovich in Poser....geh...

The n00b policy is softer these days indeed.

I remember... erg- crashing from one bad thread/debate to another.
Like learning to walk in a room filled with spikes  :P
Oh what pain.

Then again, not so long ago, Mister FlukeBlake joined the forums...

Dang. I have no point again!  >:(

...or wait... Nobody acted later like this...

QuoteNot trying to be rude or anything.
QuoteNot to sound overly-harsh,
QuoteSorry if I'm a bit harsh but...

I don't remember anything like that 2 years ago...  :-
Critics lounge was place where you get your rightful load without any excuses... but with instructions to avoid next one.

It seems that members are extra cautious now.
Which actually is good. For global peace and stuff.

Though I registered quite late, I will always remember DGMacphee, from the days he added some fun to the community. Amen.

IM NOT TEH SPAM

Yes, but when they don't it's funny as hell.  Especially when someone comes and locks it (:D).

The good ol' days can be easily defined. The days when m0ds would change his avatar once a week to a new animated one of himself.

Heh, like when everyone changed their avatars to the crotch hand one.

Pet Terry

m0ds' avatars.
My first game I never released, even though it was (and still is) 99.9% finished.
RPG Creator pimping his upcoming game, and himself.
Pessi's paintovers in Critic's Lounge.
Posting a couple of times in 2001, on the Ezboards, then leaving and joining again in 2002.
When I wasn't decent at making music.
That guy who offered to make music for people, but couldn't upload any samples for people to hear because they were copyrighted.
And other stuff. Of course a hell lot more happened before I joined.

I still have fond memories of the 'Ezboard days', although this is probably just a psychologiclal thing as things usually seem better when wearing the rose-tinted glasses of nostalgia (although we'll never see the likes of "Courtland Leksutin Vs. The Ninjas" again). But the real good old days?

* Spending 12 hours on public transport to meet a bunch of europeans from the internet in a field somewhere near Staines, subsequently getting extremely wet from a combination of rain and Thorpe Park in the company of some extremely awesome people.

* 5 days in the Mittens Cottage in Orust in the company of some extremely awesome people.

* Flying to New York, driving through the night up state, exploring 'diahrrea island' and generally estroying Eric's family cabin in the company of some extremely awesome people.

* Sleeping overnight in Athens airport, learning to play poker and swimming in the Agean Sea in the company of some extremely awesome people.

That was great. I also loved when MrC busted that one guy who was just ripping backgrounds from the Spider-Man cartoon creator. First he claimed he had just made them. Then it turned to 'I made them for the cartoon maker and I'll put up new ones soon"... yeah.. like he came back.
- Oh great, I'm stuck in colonial times, tentacles are taking over the world, and now the toilets backing up.
- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

Man, I miss seeing Pessi around! He rocked so hardcore. I actually had teh guy helping me with pics for Fry 2 and I decided it would be better for me to do them myself so I could learn....I'm such an ass. He was always real cool and helpful.

One of my favorite memories was when I tried to convince folks around here that I was black...And that time I had a fake fight with Gilbert that ruined evenwolfs attempt to start a fake fight with someone else...In the end I felt bad because it was about religion and it might have been a bit much...

My first AGS memory goes back two and a half years.

Does anyone remember that guy called frenchy?

He posted this Games in Production thread raving on about the game he was going to make. The game was named "the road to life" and was essentially open ended: your actions decided whether you became a pizza delivery boy, a mafia thug, or a Hymalayan monk.

The best thing was he openly acknowledged he had no idea about how to code, and he posted some pretty half hearted screenshots. Yet he kept going on about how his game would rock the world.

Some people kept replying he was being too ambitious, others flamed him... yet frenchy never faltered. He came up with something even more outrageous every time he posted.

I think frenchy was having a go at them all.

The thread went for like ten pages, and it was damn fun to read.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It's the size of the fight in the dog.

I remember the good old days when AGS was still Dos based and the forums ran of ezboard.

I remember when the word n00b was infrequent and everyone seemed to know each other to a certain extenet.

I rememebr when games were released frequently.

I remember when Pumaman was known as CJ.

Ahh...
When I was a little kid we had a sand box. It was a quicksand box. I was an only child... eventually.

Hehe, yeah, I remember that guy, & how he semed awfully similar to RPGMaker (or whatever his name was....maybe it was the other way around). Didn't he release a very brief demo? I think his heart was in it, but he just didn't realise his own limitations. Shame really. It happens a lot, but not on this scale. If you're gonna overshoot, you might as well do it from a HUGE distance...

I miss DGMacphee & Pessi being regular posters, & even some of the other "oldbies" who are still around, but not as much as they used to be...

The best April Fools joke to date was the "RealUltimatePower" main page that DG mocked up & CJ replaced the normal page with. I didn't get the reference at the time & I still loved it.

The older confrontations (Helm & Yufster? Darth Mandarb & Squinky?) seem quite funny today, as they tended to just get off on the wrong foot - everyone's bestest buds now, obviously (DM & Squink worked on a game together did they not?)

Ooh, and the newsbots! They were awesome & need a ressurection at some point! Those threads are still awesome to browse years after (dear god I hope they're still in the system...)!
