Title: The Motherload.
Post by: rodekill on Mon 28/07/2003 05:24:20
The Motherload (http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3539555279&ssPageName=ADME:B:BN:CA:1)

Wow.
Judging from the pictures I'm assuming some of the manuals and stuff are missing, but nevertheless, SQ3 BOX!  ;D

Congrats. Those seem to be in much better condition than my old Sierra boxes. I don't know how the hell I manage to get them so worn - at least I stopped lending the boxes to friends after certain people lost my Colonel's Bequest magnifying glass and my KQ collection manual (with all the copy protection, argh).

It's a good thing I don't have a credit card - buying old games off e-Bay would ruin me. I'll have to settle for garage sales. I recently found Heart of China in excellent condition for $2. Unfortunately there's no Sierra product catalog in the box, which used to be my favorite part of the games - I could spend hours just reading descriptions of games (the 10th anniversary catalog is particularly great! :))

Garage -> I don't know if it's wise of me to point this out, but I don't use a credit card for Ebay. I always send money orders.
I also loved those catalogs. I remember staring agonizingly at the entry for Space Quest 3 in the catalog that we got with KQ3. I must have really been obsessed, because my dad surprised me with a copy of it once it was released. I still can't believe it disappeared over the years...

Ooh, Heart of China, one of the most underappreciated, unplayed games out there. A definate favorite.

I recently bought KQ 1-5 on three cds and KQ6 in the box with everything still in it for two bucks at a yard sale. Now I try to check yard sales as much as possible.

I wish I could find my copy of HoC... I love that game.

He has a point guys...I mean more time, money, and work is being put into the new DOOM3 (TM, Copyright, Batman) engine then probobly every adventure game engine combined.

Who needs literature or storylines or art or character development or a plot or a deeper understanding when you can sever an alien demons head through its asshole at 74 fps bump mapped?

I mean..All we do is read Science fiction right? Not like any of us have ever picked up a book on Three demenional algorithims...or know what the hell a NURB is from a polygon. I know for damn sure robots are evil...That is what the books tell me...

Fellas, I can understand your new found hatred towards this odd guy, I even back you up on it,  but please don't use the word "gay" in reference to him as a derogatory statement.  That brings down the gays.  Gay people are no where near this way.  In fact, every gay person I know are not jerks.  Actually, I think if everyone was gay, then there would be no robberies too... thats not what gay people do...

anyways, back on track... Chis, you are a moron.
Title: Re:The Motherload.
Post by: Trapezoid on Fri 01/08/2003 06:55:01
Eh, I'd give up on it. The word "gay" used to mean a completely different thing, might as well let it devolve into an insult and let some other word fill in the role of the "common homosexual synonym"
Title: Re:The Motherload.
Post by: DGMacphee on Fri 01/08/2003 07:19:29
Waitaminute -- two spamming rejects from kikme's ass call everyone "Dick stroking poofter fuck", and you two write sweet FA about it.

Then I call one of them a "gay cowboy" and suddenly you both get on your sanctimonious high-horse.

Smell the shit your shovelling, guys.

Besides, I meant "happy cowboy"!  ;D

Is someone gonna explain what a 'poofter' is to me?

Anyways, back to my original, good topic.

I got the games today. They are in amazing condition. All the manuals are in mint shape, and the boxes have absolute minimum shelf wear. The only thing that's missing as far as I can tell is the pig-snout from SQ3.  :-\

And now I bring you more great Ebay Adventure Auctions (That I'm not bidding on, and are therefore useful to you):
Monkey Island 1 cd-rom (http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3039216208&category=11047)
Loom cd-rom (http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3039248266&category=11047)
Indy 3 with the infamous grail diary! (http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3038000016&category=11047)

That  backward's guest made me realise:

DGMacphee is an anagram of "Camp Hedge"
or Daniel Machphee -> "Mad Penile ache"

And Derek Stockley is an anagram of "Reeky desk clot"

Las Naranjas is an anagram of "Sans Anal Jar"

Captain Mostly -> "My Satanic Plot"

OneThinkingGal => The Ink Ganglion,

Gilbert Cheung => Chug treble gin

Eric Feurstein => Fiercest urine

Linus Larsson => Nolan Sisters

Mark Lovegrove =>OK Gravel Mover

Telemachus Stavrapolous => Savour Helm's Lacate Soup!

Not forgetting "Kills traced unto un" or "U cant stun rodekill"

and CJ is an anagram of JC!

EDIT:

Can you spot the deliberate mistake and who the penultimate ones are?

No, that was your mother's manhood.

And I heard it wasn't Aushor -- It was Mr T.

Hahahehehehehahaha -- Mr T Fucked your hermaphrodite mother!

I've already started making T Shirts!

In conclusion, your face looks like a fart, and cannot compete with someone very sexy like me -- all the girls are swooning and say things like "Oh DGMacphee, we are very randy! Make love to us all! And keep us away from Chis Shannon, whose face looks like a fart and has a hermaphrodite mother who was fucked by Mr T."

HAHAHAHAHA loser!

If you remove all the vulgar slang from his posts he actually says nothing at all !

Erm minimi,DG posted a link explaining what a poofter was….. unless your coming out of the closet maybe you don't want it in your nick!

Rode, that my friend, is a *RARE* copy of the Quest for Glory series inwhich a Hero's Quest box was used... you should buy that now!  Don't tell anybody....  :D

stupid idiots on eBay, I like how the owner is trying to get away with that... "a solid box"  what does that mean?!?

*This was a joke...

I actually already have a copy of Hero's Quest, I was just wondering why the manual didn't correspond with the game.
Title: Re:The Motherload.
Post by: Pumaman on Sun 10/08/2003 11:41:06
Is it possible that when they changed the name, they reprinted all the manuals, but had loads of game boxes left over so they kept using them until they ran out?

Otherwise it does seem rather odd that they don't match up.
Title: Re:The Motherload.
Post by: rodekill on Sun 10/08/2003 18:18:39
I don't think that'd be possible, since they were forced to change the name of the game because of this (http://users3.ev1.net/~nate555/heroquest/toc.htm).

I've always thought myself deprived cos i've never got to get the stuff that comes in the game boxes, cos i've never really bought any games, and when they first came out i was a bit too young to think of buying them... Plus my brother just copied them from friends.
Maybe when i get a job one day, i might buy some stuff off there.

The US is very different in that respect, I guess.  GF was unavailable in my area about 6 months after it came out.  Other adventure games never get shelf space or, at best, a couple copies of each game.  The newest Sims expansion Pack or FPS, however, you could find a copy for every person in the US at your nearest Wal-Mart.

Ah, exclusive to pre-ordered copies.  That's got to pretty damned rare indeed.

EDIT: Well, I do have one item on that page, the Fate of Atlantis poster.  I have it hanging in my room and it is awesome.

Er, no.  $37.  But it was worth it!  I've been wanting one of these shirts since 1996 when I bought Full Throttle!

Got my original SQ box today. It's in moderately ok shape. About what I expected.
The big news is that in the box was... The Droids R Us coupon! The one before Toys R Us forced them to change it to Droids B Us!

/me thrusts towards nothing in particular.

PS: That's a sweet shirt Remixor. I'd like to get a good closeup of that graphic and redraw it in vectors.

I got a special surprise today.
In a desperate attempt to complete my SQ3 set, I went and bid on another copy.
I got it today.
I'm 99% sure that it's factory sealed. There's still a Radio Shack price tag on it for $69.95. It's in mint condition other than one small dent on the bottom of the sleeve, and the shrinkwrap isn't one of those crappy homemade jobs.
Insane. How could anyone have a game lying around for 14 years without ever opening it?
I am happy.

Too lazy to create links to all these auctions, but:

http://cgi6.ebay.co.uk/ws1/eBayISAPI.dll?MfcISAPICommand=ViewBidItems&userid=berianwilliams&completed=1&all=1&rows=200

I've bought about 25 adventures off ebay over the last month or so...

http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws1/eBayISAPI.dll?MfcISAPICommand=ViewBidItems&userid=wartrade&completed=1&sort=3&all=0&rows=25

There's the list of mine.  It only has my most recent 12, I guess it only lists ones within the past month or something.

Sell them, but pour fake blood into the package before you send them. See if anyone says anything.

;D Oh Yeah! That'll work nicely with that 12" (30 cm) Bear hunting knife! ( Like anyone would be dumb enough to go bear hunting with a knife...)

I have SQ3 original complete, and I'd love to have the other two too, but with shipping and everything, it would cost a whole lot.

Yeah, I actually already have a copy of the original SQ1 with Droids R Us coupon, but that copy looks to be in better shape.
My coupon is mint however.

EDIT: ha ha, stupid rapidly devaluating American Dollar, it's not that expensive after all.

Man, I wish I had held onto all the boxes of my old computer games...these days i would put them on their own bookshelf...but when you're eight you don't think that at age 23 you'll feel nostalgic for some silly box...

I've started looking for old adventure games at car boot sales. This weekend I got Larry 2 (nothing missing as far as I can tell, it even has the "Letter from the President" where Ken Williams tries to pimp Adlib sound cards ;)) for about $2.5 and the X-Files Game, which I've always wanted, for about $6 (a bit on the pricy side, but the box is REALLY nice, and with 7 cd-roms it's not something you could download).

Ironically, I was already keeping my boxes in mint condition when I was eight.
Then one day my parents decided we didn't need them anymore.
Whee!

My mom threw out all of my old boxes AND the diskettes. Halves of dozens of classic adventures, gone just like that.

I bought a mint condition Colonel's Bequest, complete with Notepad, Pencil, Copy Protection (And the red screen "Magnifying Glass" to read it), and both booklets for one cool, sweet dollar.

Awesome game.

I also wish i still had one of the old 386s around...they probably got sold at yard sales long ago...

then i could actually play these games.  I know there's ways to get em to work, but i just seem to slow to figure it out.

kinda funny, at the time i was cursing that 386 cause it wasn't fast enough, and now my machine is just too fast for my old beloved games.

and yes, it's the OS too, but whatever...
