I have been trying to find a copy of this engine. Just to see how it works.

That said, it's pretty clear they don't want anyone contacting them - no email addresses on any of their sites/pages.
So you're asking for someone to provide you a copy, for free, of a commercially licensed adventure game engine development kit that hasn't been updated or available for more than 12 years (http://www.twilightsoftware.com/age/)?
According to the official website, you can get a free copy of the hobbyist edition with purchase of The Sydney Mystery (http://www.twilightsoftware.com/sydneymystery/). Which costs $19.99. No one is going to give you a pirated version.

But I'm not opposed to finding out why it's not been available since 2000, and I'd quite like dbuske to spend his money on that PayPal transaction for the greater good of the majority and let us know if said engine exists or is figment of imagination ;)
I don't think it has been developed for years now. It could be considered abandonware. Maybe????

dbuske, I don't think you understand what "abandonware (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abandonware)" actually means. Just because you claim it as being abandoned doesn't mean that you're not still infringing on the copyright if it (the copyright) has not been revoked. So as to not come across as a hypocrite, I don't find piracy to be reproachful in all cases, but I don't go around begging other people to do it for me either.
The reason isn't clearly stated, but most likely this "Twilight Software" company decided to stop selling the engine because they didn't want to feel obligated to support it. Typically if you're still making revenue off of something then there's an implication behind that. They just decided if it wasn't going to be developed or supported then they shouldn't be selling it ([/speculation]).
Oh, and Mehrdad, I don't know if you actually looked at what dbuske was asking about (m0ds did link to it ;)), but those are completely separate, unique, and entirely different things from each other.
