So for years after falling off the radar, I still love this community. You guys rock and I have a lot of legitimate friends from here.

I subscribed to UE4 a few months ago, as I still like to play around with game concepts (although terrible at completing thing).

In about 8 hours of messing around, I made a rather good (in my opinion) of replicating the gameplay feel of grim fandango (with a few modern aspects).

Ui system is totally incomplete. A basic inventory system and item pick up mechanics is next on the agenda. Point and click interface as opposed to "tank" controls should be easy enough to implement quickly.

I believe Obduction is being made with Unreal Engine 4.

Nice video Ryan. That's cool bra, its like L.A. Noire :) Is the blue cup innocent or guilty? 8 hours. sheesh!

Wow, all in 8 hours? The camera moves and character animation really tie it together. Would love to see a little game with a couple of rooms and some moody dialogue. Keep us updated Layabout, good to see you posting!

Thanks! Obduction certainly is using UE4. I was never a huge fan of Myst, however it does look very nice.

Yup. 8 hours with a few coffee breaks in between and some fighting with getting the control scheme to work.

I'm glad you like the camera moves, however I can't take credit for the character animation (they are included in the starter content), however I did model and animate the fan (it's a little rough around the edges but it did the job to add a bit of interest to an otherwise bland scene. I do plan to make a few other templates for camera styles. Static Cameras are straightforward, but a dolly camera would be good for street locations.

Glad you liked my quick and dirty UI example. I'd probably be more inclined to do something a bit more telltale-ish, but it is just a material, so it can be changed in an instant.

It's all using the Unreal Blueprint visual scripting - no text code at all. :)

The look and style is awesome.

I have looked into a ton of engines and have used things like Unity and Stencyl but haven't had a look at UE4.

The one main feature that annoys me about unity is the no dynamic shadows in the free (I'm not shelling out $$$$ to do some proof of concepts).

Does UE4 have good exporting options? Phones, tablets etc?

UE4 exports to PC, Mac, Linux, Xbox One, PS4, Android & iOS.

It's $19USD to subscribe & that gets you the full engine and source code. Royalties to Epic are 5% of the sale price. You can unsubscribe at any time and keep the engine & code - what I have been doing is only getting the latest version every 3 or so months.

Unity does have advantages in its extensive marketplace, that the base version is free. Unity has more options for scripting, Unreal gives you the choice of Blueprints or C++. I so far have not found anything that I could not do via Blueprints, however code would obviously be more efficient.
