Title: Walking Dead in Sam and Max
Post by: big brother on Thu 01/09/2005 23:17:51
I may have found a design flaw in Freelance Police.

(SPOILER WARNING)

I solved a bunch of puzzles in the beginning, went through the Tunnel of Love, and got the crowbar from the moleman. However, I avoided riding the Cone of Tragedy. I broke into Trixie's trailer and found the Gator Golf clue. I visited Gator Golf, where Bumpus uses Max as a golf ball.

Here's the catch:
Max is trapped inside the dunking booth. To free him, I need to the bucket of fish (to align the alligators into a bridge) from the World of Fish. To visit the World of Fish, I need the fish magnet from the lost and found tent at the carnival. To get that magnet, I need to have lost my inventory on the Cone of Tragedy. And (due to lazy animators, I think), Sam refuses to ride the Cone without Max. As a result, I can wander around and never win.

Looks like a mistake on the part of the designers (or testers). Oops.

Good find, but it was Sam and Max: Hit the Road.
Freelance Police was never released, unless you're talking about the TV show, in which case, I know you are not.  ;)

That sucks, and it a pretty important bug, but why didn't you get on the Cone of Tragedy? I do it all the time. I get home from work, and if it was a rough day, I load up Sam and Max, just to get on the Cone. It's a real stress reliever.  :=

bugs, bugs, bugs and then again more bugs....

We are curently playing The dig and something similar just happened.

There is some kind of a tomb with crypt in it.And there is a relic on crypt, when you touch it, it vanish(by the walkthrough) after that you just need to stand(use) on a crypt( it is a kind of elevator). But there is allways a butÃ,  we accidentally used a crypt before we touched a relic(big statue of alien animal) and now main character can't stop repeating something about relic, BUT RELIC IS NO MORE THERE WE TOUCH IT.

Is this bug?

if it's not a bug thenÃ,  :PÃ,

Ummm.... I'm still stunned by the above post. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with Sam and Max, but it's quite cryptic.

Scummbuddy.... yes, yes, of course it's Hit the Road. I don't know why I wrote Freelance Police. The walking dead is not something your average player would run into. But because it's possible, it signifies a failure on the design side of things.

You should travel back in time and join their QA team and as soon as you're hired just blurt it out. They'll think you're a QA genious and bow to you as if a god.

Okay, I have to ask because this is bugging me. LJBetc, why do you refer to yourself as `we`. I keep picturing the turtle from the Never-Ending Story.

Re: Actual point of post... I'm gonna go home and try that. I haven't played Sam and Max in years and I didn't think there were any walking deads so I really want to find that one now.

I feel like a nerd for even knowing this but...

It's not a walking dead. You can also access the World of Fish by talking to the old man at the World's Largest Ball of Twine.

He knows he can visit the world of fish, and even the big ball of twine. He's just saying that he can't get the magnet. He needs that inventory item. Nothing else. (if im not mistaken)

No, no. I would just have to be able to visit the World of Fish for this NOT to be a walking dead (to get the bucket of fish to save Max). And I have the Ball of Twine on the map after talking to the moleman. Although I don't remember the old man mentioning the World of Fish....hmmmmm. I will have to try.

Cause my girlfriend and me are we.We are makeing game together and it was easy to sign in with one account.I am not allways one who writes post. And because of that we just prefer we. ;D

If you don't like it(you - all AGS community) we will stop saying we. :D

Sorry for our post we just tought that is a similar bug and why to start a new topic when we can post it here.Don't be angry ;)

If you ask the Old man at the The largest Ball of Twine on Earth Musuem about the raining fishguts outside the window (you don't need to look at it to get this) and he'll mention they'r from the World of Fish.

If I don't make any mistake, it's also possible to unlock the World of Fish location by looking at an object or a poster in the room hidden in the Tunnel of Love ride. And you can unlock the Ball of Twine location by looking at it while you're in World of Fish, or maybe by talking to the fishing man. It's been a long time since I played this game, so I could be wrong too. But I remember getting the World of Fish location before getting the Ball of Twine one.
