With no sound in games, you could better type a letter in word, just as entertaining :P.

I use Guitar Pro... You can make simple tabs with it which you can export as a midi, you have to know something about tabs for guitars by the way. There are probably better programs out there...

Scavenger

A midi keyboard and Voyetra Plus! Yay o.o

WildCaToad

I use Cakewalk Express and Noteworthy Composer.  Both of the programs aren't necessarily inexpensive...although there is a demo version of Noteworthy that you can download.  Both programs require somewhat the ability to read notation before you can do much of anything, so depending on your experience they may not be for you.  I like 'em though!

I always use cubase for game music and my owns songs, great programme, but it takes some time to get the hang of it

Erica McLane

I`ve used Melody Assistant, its good.

Belphegor

I use Cakewalk Pro 9. It's the best for me. But you must have a midi keyboard to work correctly(i mean that with blocks you can make mistakes, and it is getting boring quickly)

Now, if u don't have a midi keyboard, i would suggest Guitar Pro 8 or Band in a box

whoops :)

forgot to say... cubase supports midi keyboards. I always use my synthesizer for making songs (which ufcuz supports midi)

but you can make your music quite good without a keyboard, it just takes a lot more time.

Cubase is without question one of the best sequencers there is, but its price isn't exactly low either. A good keyboard is more important, so if you have a limited amount of money I recommend that you first get a keyboard and then get a sequencer with the money you have left. The cheaper programs are still usable, even if they don't have Cubase's features.

Another option is to use a music notation program. If you know music notation, they are easier to work with than a sequncer (at least, that's my experience as a music student). Finale and Sibelius are the best ones. Here, I don't really recommend the cheaper programs, since they are not as usable as the big ones.

did you think I bought cubase?

Oufcourse I did ;)

I thought 4 was the newest version, or did I missed something?

Trapezoid

Having a keyboard or knowing notation isn't that important. I believe most Cakewalk products have a simple piano roll view which makes it easy to place notes at any note or length. Complete control. It's not that tedious if you copy-drag any parts that loop. I'd look into getting one of the simpler, cheaper Cakewalk products.

okay

I just had this thought, I played pleurghburg the other thay and I really liked the music. I think we all are forgetting that the .mod or .xm files still rock. Think of all the old epic games which had great music imo.

You might try MODPlug tracker for these jobs. I think the mods are still great :)
Reminding me of fast tracker 2 and scream tracker 3 a few years ago

okay, now m0ds, don't get overexited ;)

Fruity loops?

isn't that a 'loop' program, which you could also call a drumcomputer?
I have tried that and the only thing I got were some... um, fruity loops 8)

boom tiki tik, tiki boom tiki tik, tiki boomtiki tik tiki (loop 20 times)
